Overview of Bhutan PM Dasho Tshering Tobgay’s Visit to India from September 3 to 6, 2025Prime Minister (PM) of Bhutan Dasho Tshering Tobgay was on an official four-day visit to India from September 3 to 6, 2025, marking his second visit to India in 2025 after an earlier trip in February 2025.

• He was accompanied with the First Lady Aum Tashi Doma, Je Khenpo (Chief Abbot of Bhutan) and senior delegations.

In Bihar:
Temple Inauguration: On September 3, 2025, Bhutan PM Dasho Tshering Tobgay participated in the consecration ceremony of the Royal Bhutan Templeat Rajgir in Nalanda (Bihar) in the presence of Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Ministry of Minority Affairs (MoMA), and representatives of India and Bhutan.
Nalanda University: He visited Nalanda University at Nalanda and proposed the expansion of cooperation through academic exchanges, scholarships, and cultural ties, and invited Nalanda University to join the Global Peace Prayer Festival of Bhutan.
Mahabodhi Temple: On September 4, 2025, he visited the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya (Bihar), a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Site(WHS).
Ram Janmabhoomi temple: On September 5, 2025,  Bhutan PM Dasho Tshering Tobgay and his delegation visited Ram Janmabhoomi temple at Ayodhya (UP), marking the first visit by a foreign leader to this temple.
Outcomes of the Visit:On September 6, 2025, Adani Power Limited (APL), India’s largest private power producer, signed an agreement with Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) of Bhutan, for the establishment of a 570-Megawatt (MW) Wangchhu hydroelectric project in Bhutan.

Maharashtra leads the market for small business credit: SIDBI-CRIF reportIn September 2025, the joint report “Small Business Spotlight”, released by the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) and credit bureau CRIF High Mark, provided an in-depth understanding of the lending trends among small businesses.

• Maharashtra remained the largest market with Rs 6.0 lakh crore in outstanding credit, while Tamil Nadu (Rs 4.21 lakh crore), Gujarat (Rs 3.69 lakh crore), Uttar Pradesh (Rs 3.61 lakh crore), and Karnataka (Rs 3.18 lakh crore) round out the top five by portfolio size.
• Uttar Pradesh registered highest outstanding portfolio growth of 20.7% on a year-on-year basis.

Key Highlights
Geographic Analysis:
Portfolio Outstanding: Top five states collectively accounted for 46% of the total portfolio outstanding as of June 2025.
District wise: Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru lead in portfolio outstanding, contributing 4.4%, 3.8%, and 3.0% respectively to the national portfolio as of June 2025.

• Jaipur and Ahmedabad posted the highest YoY growth among top districts, at 19.1% and 19.0% respectively.

Rural-Urban: As of June 2025, urban regions continue to account for the largest share of total portfolio outstanding at 51.9% and rural exposure at 29.0%.
Segmental performance analysis:

• Sole Proprietors – They contributed to over 75% of the outstanding small business credit and more than 85% of active loans.
• Enterprises – It recorded the highest portfolio growth, with a 24.7% YoY increase in outstanding credit
• Sole Proprietors with Entity Presence – They experienced the fastest growth in borrower count, rising by 9.3% YoY.

NBWL Approves Proposal to Integrate Matla, Raidighi, Ramganga with Sundarbans Tiger Reserve

In August 2025, the Standing Committee of the National Board for Wildlife (NBWL) under the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEFCC), chaired by Union Minister Bhupender Yadav, MoEFCC, approved the West Bengal(WB) government’s proposal to integrate three forest ranges such as Matla, Raidighi, and Ramganga from the South 24 Parganas district of approximately 1,044.68 Square Kilometre (Sq. Km) into the Sundarbans Tiger Reserve (STR).

• With this move, the reserve areas increase to around 3,629.57 sq.km, making it India’s 2nd largest TR, following Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam TR (Andhra Pradesh, AP) with approximately 3,727.82 Sq Km.

Expansion of Sundarbans TR: 
Better Management: The integration of the forest ranges, brings these tiger-inhabited areas under unified management, enabling better implementation of National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) guidelines, efficient patrolling, and allocation of funds from the Government of India (GoI).

• It facilitates the designation of core or buffer zones for more structured conservation efforts.

Tiger Population: According to the latest census, the STR hosts an estimated 101 tigers: 80 within the current Tiger Reserve and 21 in the adjoining South 24 Parganas forests.
Recognition:In 1987, It was designated a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Site(WHS).

Kongsberg Maritime Signs a Contract for India’s First Electric Tug at Deendayal Port in Gujarat
On September 7, 2025, Kongsberg Maritime, a technology company, signed an agreement with Mandovi Drydocks, in partnership with Ripley Group to provide a fully integrated equipment package for India’s first electric tug at Deendayal Port in Kandla (Gujarat), marking a major milestone in the Green Tug Transition Programme (GTTP) of India.

Contract: Mandovi Drydocks, an Indian ship building and repair company, in partnership with Ripley Group, won the tender for the GTTP deployment at Deendayal Port.
Equipment Package: The package includes Permanent Magnet (PM)- driven azimuth thrusters, Energy Storage System (ESS), Electrical Systems, Automation & Control Systems such as K- Chief and K-Chief Power Management System (PMS), Digital Solutions for Vessel Insight and Vessel Performance, and Full Integration System.
Electric Tug: The tug, designed by NavNautik India, with a 60-tonne bollard pull, will be delivered and commissioned in 2026. The Global Customer Support team of Kongsberg Maritime will provide operational support, ensuring confidence and lifecycle value.
Green Tug Transition Programme (GTTP):  This initiative focuses on reducing carbon emissions within port operations by transitioning to electric and hybrid propulsion systems. The electric tug will be one of the first milestones under this programme.

PNB Signs MoU with Rajasthan to Invest Rs.21,000 Crores under ‘Rising Rajasthan’
In September 2025, Punjab National Bank (PNB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Rajasthan, with a commitment to invest Rs.21,000 crores under the state’s ‘Rising Rajasthan’ initiative.

Key Details of MoU:
Signatories: The MoU was signed by Ashok Chandra, Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), PNB, and Vaibhav Galriya, Principal Secretary (Finance), Rajasthan, in the presence of Chief Minister (CM) of Rajasthan Bhajanlal Sharma in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
Focus Areas: The initiative will prioritize backing Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), promoting women entrepreneurs, and advancing the use of digital financial services.
Impact: The initiative is anticipated to enhance infrastructure development, foster entrepreneurship, and drive overall socio-economic growth in the state.
Rising Rajasthan initiative: It is a comprehensive economic and industrial development program launched by the Government of Rajasthan with an aim to become a USD 350 billion economy by 2029.

In September 2025, RRP Electronics Limited (REL) signed four strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Polaron Infotech, Rajarambapu Institute of Technology (RIT) in Sangli (Maharashtra), and MONK9 Tech Private Limited during the SEMICON India 2025 conference in New Delhi, Delhi.

Ministry of Coal Organized Star Rating Awards Ceremony for 2023-24; NLCIL Mines Achieve Top HonorsIn September 2025, the Ministry of Coal organised the Star Rating Award Ceremony for 2023-24, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, to honour outstanding coal and lignite mines for their exceptional performance in safety, environmental sustainability, and operational excellence.

• Union Minister Gangapuram (G.) Kishan Reddy, Ministry of Coal attended the event as Chief Guest, along with Union Minister of State (MoS) Satish Chandra Dubey, Ministry of Coal ; and Vikram Dev, Secretary, Ministry of Coal.

Highlights of Star Rating Award Ceremony for 2023-24:
Award Presentation: Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy presented the 5-Star awards to the top-performing mines.
Total Mines Surveyed: MoC surveyed a total of 383 mines for the star rating for year 2023-24.
Distribution: Out of 383 mines surveyed, 42 mines have received 5-star rating i.e. scoring more than 93%.

• Further, among these 42 mines, 4 mines secured 1st rank, 3 mines secured 2nd rank, and 6 mines achieved 3rd rank, while the remaining 29 mines received the Achievers prize.

NLCIL : NLC India Limited (NLCIL), (formerly known as Neyveli Lignite Corporation), a ‘Navratna’ Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under MoC, has maintained its leadership in two key parameters such as sustainable mining and operational excellence, with all its operating mines receiving Star Ratings for year 2023-24.

Indian Filmmaker Anuparna Roy Won Best Film Director Award at 82nd Venice Film Festival
In September 2025, Indian filmmaker Anuparna Roy scripted history by winning the Best Director award in the ‘Orizzonti’ section at ‘82nd Venice International Film Festival’ held from August 27 to September 06, 2025, at Lido di Venezia in Italy.

• With this honor, she became the first Indian woman to win the award in this section.

Debut Feature: She received this award for her debut feature ‘Songs of Forgetten Trees’, which showcases the evolving relationship between two migrant women in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
Presenter: The award, presented by Indian filmmaker Anurag Kashyap to Anuparna Roy, during the closing ceremony of the film festival.

Union MoS Dr. Jitendra Singh Felicitates Winners of IESO-2025 Held in Jining, China
On September 7, 2025, Union Minister of State(MoS) (Independent Charge, IC) Dr. Jitendra Singh, Ministry of Science and Technology (MoS&T), felicitated the Indian student team that won at the 18th International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO-2025), held from August 8–16, 2025, in Jining, China.

ISEO-2025:
Medals: The Indian team secured seven medals, comprising 1 Gold, 4 Silver, and 2 Bronze along with a 3rd prize in the International Geoscience Youth Movement (I-GYM) Reporter Category.
Winners: The team encompasses Rayansh Gupta from Ludhiana (Punjab) (1 Gold, 1 Silver, and I-GYM 3rd prize), Charuvrat Bains from Kapurthala (Punjab) (2 silver and 1 Bronze), Apam Nidhi Pandey from Jaipur (Rajasthan) (1 silver), and Priyanshi Ghanghas from Delhi (1 Bronze).
Event: It is an annual competition for secondary school students (Classes 9 to 12) worldwide. It was established in 2003 by the International Geoscience Education Organization (IGEO).

• Since 2007 India has been a participant, and in 2013, it hosted the 10th edition in Mysore (Karnataka).

Anutin Charnvirakul Elected as 32nd PM of ThailandIn September 2025, Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of Thailand’s Bhumjaithai Party, was elected as Thailand’s 32nd Prime Minister(PM), securing 311 votes in the 493-seat parliament and decisively defeating Chaikasem Nitisiri of the Pheu Thai Party.

• Following royal endorsement by King Maha Vajiralongkorn, he assumed office as PM  at a ceremony held in Bangkok, Thailand.
• He succeeded Paetongtarn Shinawatra of the Pheu Thai Party, who was dismissed by the Constitutional Court on August 29, 2025, for ethics violations related to a phone call with Cambodia’s Senate President during the July 2025 border conflict.

Election Outcome: 
Election Majority: Anutin Charnvirakul was elected as PM with 311 votes, surpassing the required 247-vote majority in the 492-member House of Representatives.
Rival Outcome: His opponent, Chaikasem Nitisiri of the Pheu Thai Party, received 152 votes, while 27 members abstained from voting.
About Anutin Charnvirakul:
Profile: He is a practical politician popular in Thailand’s rural northeast and is known for his role in cannabis law changes in 2022.
Business Career: He ran his family’s construction business, Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction (STECON), before entering politics.
Political Career: His political journey began in 2000 when he served as an advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2005 and has since held several key positions.

• He became leader of the Bhumjaithai Party in 2014, succeeding his father, Chavarat Charnvirakul.

Past Roles: Health Minister (July 2019 – September 2023), Deputy PM(July 2019 – June 2025), Interior Minister (September 2023 – June 2025).

Milind Soman Appointed as Ambassador of BJYM ‘Namo Yuva Run’ Campaign
On September 7, 2025, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) launched “Namo Yuva Run” campaign and appointed Milind Soman, an Indian Fitness Icon, as its ambassador, in New Delhi, Delhi, with an aim to promote fitness and social awareness among the youths of India.

Namo Yuva Run Campaign:
Campaign: The campaign is scheduled to take place on September 21, 2025, across 75 cities in India, with the goal of drawing participation from one million youths.
Campaign Theme: The initiative’s theme, ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ (Drug-Free India), reinforces national efforts to prevent substance abuse and promote health and well-being among the youth.

Mohamed Irfaan Ali Re-Elected as President of Guyana for Second TimeIn September 2025, Mohamed Irfaan Ali, current President of Guyana and member of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), was re-elected President of Guyana for a second 5 years term after winning the general election held on September 1, 2025.

• The PPP won 36 out of 65 National Assembly seats, giving him a renewed mandate to govern the country.
• The We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party, headed by Azruddin Mohamed, became the second-largest party with 16 seats, overtaking the traditional opposition, A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), which won 12 seats.

Men’s Hockey Asia Cup 2025: India Won and Qualifies for 2026 World Cup In September 2025, the Indian men’s hockey team clinched the 12th edition of the Men’s Hockey Asia Cup title by defeating the defending champion South Korea (4-1) in the final held at the Bihar Sports University Hockey Stadium in Rajgir Sports Complex, Bihar.

• The victory marks India’s fourth Asia Cup title and qualified for the 2026 International Hockey Federation (FIH) Men’s Hockey World Cup to be co-hosted by the Netherlands and Belgium.

Organiser: The tournament was organized by the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF).
Tournament: The Men’s Hockey Asia Cup 2025 was held from August 29 to September 7, 2025.
Participants: India, South Korea, Malaysia, China, Japan, Bangladesh, Chinese Taipei and Kazakhastan.
India’s Performance: Led by Harmanpreet Singh, India remained unbeaten in the tournament with five wins and one draw.
Final Result: India won the gold medal, while South Korea finished as the runner-up, securing the silver medal.

• Malaysia clinched the bronze medal by defeating China in the third-place playoff.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen Wins F1 2025 Italian GP TitleIn September 2025, 4-time World Champion Max Verstappen, Belgian-Dutch driver of Red Bull won the Formula (F1) Italian Grand Prix(GP) 2025, held at Autodromo Nazionale Monza in Monza, Italy.

• This marked his 3rd victory of the F1 2025 season; previously, he won the Japanese GP (in April 2025) and Emilia Romagna GP (in May 2025) and also his career’s overall 66th victory.

Key Highlights:
Set New World Record: Max Verstappen completed the 53 laps in 1 hour (hr), 13 minutes (mins) and 24.32 seconds (s), breaking former German F1 racer, Michael Schumacher’s world record of 1 hr, 14 mins and 19.838 s (set in 2003).
Milestone: This victory was Verstappen’s third win at Monza in the past four years, making him the first driver to win from pole position at the circuit since 2019.
Other Notable Winners: McLaren’s championship leader Lando Norris secured 2nd position by finishing the championship gap to 31 points.

• While, Australian F1 driver, Oscar Piastri (McLaren) secured 3rd position, which was his lowest finish since Canada GP (2019).
• Also, it was Piastri’s 34th consecutive points finish in a GP, marking the 3rd longest in the history of F1 race behind Verstappen (43) and Lewis Hamilton (48).

India to Host 28th ITTF-ATTU Asian TT Teams Championship in October 2025
In September 2025, the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) announced that India will host the 28th International Table Tennis Federation-Asian Table Tennis Union (ITTF-ATTU) Asian Table Tennis Team Championships from October 11 to October 15, 2025.

• This 5-day long tournament will be held at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

About 28th ITTF-ATTU Teams Championship:
Event Format: The championship will include only team events for both men’s and women’s categories.
Qualifier for 2026: The tournament will serve as qualifier for the 2026 ITTF World Team Championships, with the top 13 teams from each category earning spots.
Participants: Top Asian teams like China, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, along with emerging South Asian and Middle Eastern teams, will participate.
Previous Asian Events in Odisha: This is for the first time that Odisha will host an Asian-level TT tournament after the 2019 Commonwealth Championships held in Cuttack, Odisha.

In September 2025, the Deputy Chief minister (DyCM) of Tamil Nadu (TN) Udhayanithi Stalin launched India’s first-ever 5150 Triathlon in Chennai, TN.

• The TN State Government approved Rs.3 crore for the event, making India the third Asian nation and the sixth worldwide to host this elite triathlon format.

5150 Triathlon Event:
Venue: The event is scheduled to take place on January 11, 2026, at the MGM Beach Resort along East Coast Road (ECR) in Chennai.
Banner: The event, under the IRONMAN banner, comprises a 1.5 kilometre (km) swim, cycle ride, and a 10 km run.
Background: The 5150 Triathlon series was launched worldwide in 2011 and forms part of the World Triathlon Corporation’s (WTC) Ironman portfolio.
Duathlon series: During the event a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Deepak Raj, Country Head, IRONMAN India, and J. Meghanatha Reddy, Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Member Secretary, Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT), to introduce Duathlon series in India.

• The series includes the Sprint Duathlon (5 km run, 20 km cycle, 2.5 km run), Olympic Duathlon (10 km run, 40 km cycle, 5 km run), and IRONKIDS races for children aged between 6 and 16 (1 km, 2 km, and 3 km runs).

 Alignment: The 2025 observance aligns with the UNGA’s adoption of the UN Convention against Cybercrime, the first global treaty to prevent and combat cybercrime through enhanced law enforcement cooperation.

Background:
Proclamation: On 16 December 2022, the UN General Assembly (UNGA) adopted Resolution A/RES/77/241, declaring 7 September each year as the International Day of Police Cooperation.
First Observance: The inaugural International Day of Police Cooperation was held on 7 September 2023, coinciding with the centenary of the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL).
Significance of Date: 7 September was chosen as it marks the founding of INTERPOL, whose predecessor, the International Criminal Police Commission (ICPC), was established on 7 September 1923.
Commemoration: The UN Inter-Agency Task Force on Policing (IATF-P) leads the observance of the day.
