Union Minister Jitendra Singh Inaugurates a Program of CBC: ‘Innovations in Public Administration’Union-Minister-Dr-Jitendra-Singh-inaugurates-“Innovations-in-Public-Administration”-programme-of-Capacity-Building-Commission-of-Mission-KarmayogiOn 4th February 2022 Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State of Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions inaugurated ‘Innovations in Public Administration’ program of Capacity Building Commission (CBC) of Mission Karmayogi to identify successful innovations in public service pioneered by civil servants.
About the Inauguration of CBC:
i.CBC Knowledge Repository will be created which can be accessed by anyone for scaling up India’s successful innovations.
ii.This will serve as case studies for capacity building of present and future civil servants and India can also become a global repository of case studies of civil servants for successful innovations.
Other Launch:
i.The event also marked the launch of the web portal https://innovateindia.mygov.in/cbc-inviting-innovations through which CBC invites all Government Employees to share their successful innovations.

  • The portal would be open from 4th February 2022 to 5th March 2022 for government employees to share innovations undertaken by them.

ii.The Selected Innovators will have the opportunity to showcase their leadership, creativity and initiatives to enhance governance and public service delivery in the Annual Health of Civil Services Report.

  • An Annual Health of Civil Services Report will be released for the 1st time after 75 years of India’s Independence.

i.Mission Karmayogi , a National Programme for Civil Services Capacity Building (NPCSCB) aims to create competent civil servants through institutional and process reforms.

  • Through Mission Karmayogi, the ultimate objective of the Governance is to bring ‘Ease of Living’ for the common man of India.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail: Surat to Become the 1st Station to be Ready for India’s 1st Bullet Train

Mumbai-Ahmedabad-High-Speed-Rail

Surat (Gujarat) is set to become the first station to be ready between Mumbai – Ahmedabad Bullet Train route for India’s first futuristic High Speed Rail project, Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) Corridor. 

  • MAHSR corridor will cover 12 stations in total which includes, Surat, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad, Sabarmati, Bilimora, Bharuch, Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi stations.
  • National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd. (NHSRCL) is the implementing agency for the project.

About MAHSR Corridor:
i.The construction of the first Bullet train in India, which will connect Ahmedabad and Mumbai, has began in September 2017. 
ii.The 508 Km long high speed rail corridor build with the support of Japan, is expected to be completed by 2022.
iii.The train will operate at a speed of 320kmph and 350 km per hour is the Maximum Design Speed- of the train. 
Note
i.The bullet train will reduce the travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad from 7-8 hours to 2-3 hours. 
ii.India’s first bullet train will operate between Surat and Bilimora in 2026. 
Land acquisitions:
i.As of 2022, the Railway ministry has acquired 98.62% land (941.13 Ha out of 954.28 Ha) has been acquired in Gujarat, complete acquisition of 7.90 Ha land in Dadra and Nagar Haveli Union Territory, 56.39% land (244.63 Ha out of 433.82 Ha) has been acquired from Maharashtra. 
ii.This includes 925 Ha of private land.

Salesforce Global Digital Skills Index 2022: India Leads in Digital Skills ReadinessSalesforce-Global-Digital-Skills-Index,-2022Salesforce, a leading player in Customer Relationship Management (CRM), published the 2022 Global Digital Skills Index which highlights the growing global digital skills crisis and the need for action. India has scored 63 out of 100, leads the digital skills readiness and has the highest readiness index among the 19 countries.
The average global readiness score was 33 out of 100. 
About 2022 Global Digital Skills Index:
i.The 2022 Global Digital Skills Index, is based on a survey on around 23000 workers across 19 countries about digital skills, including their impact on the future of work, concerns about job readiness, and the significance of continuous learning. 
ii.Three major skills gaps identified in the 2022 global index are: The everyday skills gap, The generational skills gap, and The leadership and workforce skills gap.

Indian Company’s ECB Jumps 19 Percent to USD 23.28 Billion in 9M FY22India-Inc’s-overseas-borrowing-jumps-19-per-cent-to-$23According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data, the overseas borrowings of Indian companies stood at USD 23.28 billion in the first 3 quarters of the FY22 (April, 2021 -December, 2021) as against USD 19.53 billion during FY21 (April-December, 2020) and had jumped over 19 percent in the first nine months of the current fiscal (9MFY22).
About External Commercial Borrowings (ECB):
An external commercial borrowing (ECB) refers to the loans taken from non-resident lenders i.e. the foreign companies with a minimum average maturity (3 years) which can be availed through the automatic or the approval route.

  • ECBs include commercial bank loans, buyers’ credit, suppliers’ credit, securitized instruments such as floating rate notes and fixed rate bonds etc,.

SIDBI inks MoU with CDAC to collaborates in Cyber Security & allied SectorsSIDBI-signs-MoU-with-CDAC-to-strengthen-Cyber-Security-capabilities

Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), a premier R&D (Research and Development) organization under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), to boost collaboration in Cyber Security and Allied sectors.
What is in the MoU?
Under the agreement both SIDBI and C-DAC will collaborate to explore innovation and use of emerging technologies in the areas of Cyber Security, AI (Artificial Intelligence)/ Machine Learning (ML), block chain, etc. and related training and capacity building aspects in the Banking Sector.
Note – In August 2021, SIDBI launched ‘Digital Prayaas’ an app-based digital lending platform to facilitate loans to entrepreneurs from low-income groups. 
Signatories:
The agreement was  signed between Sudatta Mandal, Deputy Managing Director, SIDBI, and Magesh E, Executive Director, C-DAC.

HPCL Launches Branded Store ‘Happy Shop’

The Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has launched convenience stores under the brand name ‘HappyShop’. ‘HappyShop’ is a non-fuel retail sector of HPCL. The new happy shops are opened at the HPCL’s Auto Care Centre, Bandra West in Mumbai, Maharashtra and Millennium Retail Outlet in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. 

  • The customers of the HPCL will be able to browse and shop the goods through the HP Pay App. 
  • ‘Paani@Club HP’ the packaged drinking water of HPCL is also marketed across the retail outlets of HPCL.

PESB recommends Captain BK Tyagi as next CMD of Shipping Corporation of IndiaPESB-picks-Captain-BK-Tyagi-as-the-next-CMD-of-Shipping-CorpThe Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) panel has recommended the name of Capt. Binesh Kumar Tyagi (BK Tyagi) to be the next Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of Shipping Corporation of India (SCI), a PSU (Public Sector Undertaking) under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.

  • He will succeed current CMD of SCI, HK Joshi, who is set to superannuate on 31st May, 2022.

i.Capt. Binesh Kumar Tyagi graduated from Meerut University, Uttar Pradesh and joined SCI as a Trainee Nautical Officer in 1990.

Vice Chancellor of JNU – Jagadesh Kumar appointed as Chairman of UGCJNU-Vice-Chancellor-Jagadesh-Kumar-appointed-as-Chairman-of-UGCOn 4 February 2022, the  Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar was appointed as the Chairperson of the University Grants Commission (UGC). He is appointed for a period of five years (2022-2027), or until he turns 65, whichever is earlier.

  • M. Jagadesh Kumar will succeed Prof D P Singh, the former UGC Chairman, who resigned in December 2021 after superannuation.

i.Jagadesh Kumar successfully completed his five-year term as VC of JNU, which ended in January 2021, but he was asked to stay on till a successor is picked. 
ii.He is a graduate of IIT(Indian Institute of Technology) Madras (Chennai), Tamil Nadu.
iii.He also served  as professor in IIT-Delhi’s Department of Electrical Engineering.

ICICI Bank Raises Stake in IICC at GIFT IFSC City to 9.9 percentICICI-Bank-raises-stake-in-GIFT-City-clearing-corp-IICC-to-9ICICI Bank Limited has bought additional stake in India International Clearing Corporation (IICC) at International Financial Services centre (IFSC) in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), Gujarat  for Rs 4.43 crore, raising to 9.90 percent.

  • Around 44,262,356 equity shares at Rs. 1 per share were allotted to ICICI Bank on 2nd February 2022 for a cash consideration of Rs 44.3 million (Rs 4.43 crore).
  • After this investment, ICICI Bank’s shareholding increased from 7.61 percent to 9.90 percent of the equity share capital of IICC.

About IICC:
i.IICC is the 1st international clearing corporation set up at GIFT IFSC, Gujarat in September 2016.
ii.It clears and settles index and single stock derivatives, commodity derivatives, currency derivatives and debt securities.
iii.Its revenues in FY21 were Rs 1.8 crore (Rs 18 million), and loss was around Rs 3 crore (Rs 30 million).

Veteran Sri Lankan Cricketer Suranga Lakmal to Retire from International Cricket

Suranga Lakmal (full name: Ranasinghe Arachchige Suranga Lakmal) (34 years old), a veteran Sri Lankan cricketer, announced retirement from international cricket after Sri Lanka’s tour of India which ends in March 2022. He has signed a 2-year contract to join Derbyshire County Cricket Club, one of the first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales.

  • He made his international debut in 2009 and he has played 68 Tests and 86 One Day International (ODI). 
  • He has also captained the Sri Lankan Test team in 5 matches in 2018.

i.Ibrahim Nabisaheb Sutar was a part of the group that floated ‘Bhaivaikyada Janapada Sangeetha Mela’ in 1970.

iii.The government of Karnataka has honoured him with the Rajyotsava Award, the 2nd highest civilian honour of Karnataka, in 1995.
