About the scheme:
Background: The scheme previously known as the National Health Protection Scheme (NHPS) was renamed Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), which is a key component of the broader Ayushman Bharat initiative.

  • The scheme also subsumed the then existing Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY), which was launched in 2008.

The Launch: The PM launched Ayushman Bharat (AB) scheme on 23rd September, 2018 at Ranchi, Jharkhand.
Objective: It is a flagship scheme of Government of India (GoI), launched on the recommendation of the National Health Policy 2017 to achieve the vision of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

NCMRWF Signs MoU with NSIL to Establish Two DBNet Stations under Mission MausamOn 23 September 2025, the National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF) under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with New Space India Limited (NSIL), the Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Department of Space (DoS), at Prithvi Bhavan, New Delhi(Delhi) to establish two Direct Broadcast Network (DBNet) stations in Delhi and Chennai (Tamil Nadu, TN), under the Mission Mausam project.

OECD Raised India’s GDP Forecast to 6.7% for FY26In September 2025, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has released its latest Economic Outlook, Interim Report titled ‘Finding the Right Balance in Uncertain Times : September 2025’. The report has raised India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth forecast by 40 basis points (bps) to 6.7% for Financial Year 2025-26 (FY26), from its previous estimate of 6.3%.

  • This upward projection is based on the monetary and fiscal policy easing and robust Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms.

India’s Inflation: As per the report, India’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation is expected to decline significantly by 120 bps, from 4.1% to 2.9% in FY26, driven by robust domestic supply and export restrictions.

  • However, OECD has kept India’s inflation projection for FY27 unchanged i.e. at 2.9%.

Global Growth Rate: OECD has revised its global growth rate forecast by 30 bps, from 2.9% (projected earlier) to 3.2% for Calendar Year 2025 (CY25).

  • While, it has kept the global growth rate forecast for CY26 unchanged i.e. at 2.9% due to the expected global trade uncertainties led by the United States of America (USA) tariffs which are further expected to contract investment and trade in the 2nd Half (H2) of CY25.

Global Inflation: As per the OECD’s latest report, global headline inflation for CY25 is projected at 3.4% (compared to previous estimate of 3.6%) in CY25 and will decline to 2.9% in CY26.

  • While, core inflation in advanced G20 economies is most likely to remain stable at 2.6% (in CY25) and 2.5% (in CY26).

AP Govt, VPA Sign MoU to Establish a National Mega Shipbuilding Cluster in Nellore, AP
On September 23, 2025, Government of Andhra Pradesh (AP) and the Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA), Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a National Mega Shipbuilding Cluster at Dugarajapatnam in Nellore, AP.

  • The MoU was signed during a National Maritime event titled “Transforming India’s Maritime Sector” in Bhavnagar, Gujarat.
