Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia Awards IoTechWorld the First Type Certificate Under Drone Rules, 2021
Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia of the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) awarded the first Type Certificate (TC) under the Drone Rules, 2021 to IoTechWorld Avigation Pvt Ltd. (IoTechWorld).
- The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), MoCA, issues a Type Certificate for a specific type of unmanned aircraft system (drone) on the recommendation of the Quality Council of India (QCI) or an authorised testing entity under the Drone Rules 2021.
The Drone Rules, 2021
i. The Drone Rules, 2021 were notified on August 25, 2021, and the Certification Scheme for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (CSUAS) for obtaining Type Certificate (TC) for drones was notified on January 26, 2022.

Indian Railways Launches First Train Under Bharat Gaurav Scheme
On 14th June 2022 the first train under the Indian Railways ‘Bharat Gaurav’ scheme was flagged off the maiden service from Coimbatore North railway station, Tamil Nadu to Sainagar Shirdi, Maharashtra. This is India’s first Private train services.
- With this, the Southern Railway became the first zone in Indian Railways to get the first registered service provider under the “Bharat Gaurav” scheme.
- Coimbatore-based South Star Rail is the registered service provider that operates the train. The company is part of the conglomerate group – Future Gaming & Hotel Services Pvt. Limited .
Aim – To promote domestic tourism.
About the train:
i.The train has 20 coaches including 1st, 2nd and 3rd class AC and sleeper coaches.
ii.The train includes a doctor to attend to any emergency on board.
Bharat Gaurav Scheme
i.In November 2021 Indian Railways had launched the operation of theme-based Bharat Gaurav train to leverage the core strengths of the professionals of the tourism.
ii.Objective – To showcase India’s rich cultural heritage and magnificent historical places to the people of India and the world, through Bharat Gaurav Trains.

Railway Protection Force rescues 150 girls, women under Operation Mahila Suraksha
During Operation Mahila Suraksha, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), a security force under the Indian Railways, has rescued 150 women, including many girls, from becoming victims of human trafficking.
- The pan-India drive “Operation Mahila Suraksha” was launched from 3rd to 31st May 2022 which aims to ensure the safe and secure travel of women over the Indian railways.
i.During the operation, PRF also arrested over 7000 people for traveling in coaches reserved for women. The force organised 5742 awareness campaigns to educate rail users regarding their safety and Dos and Don’ts as safety and security of women.
ii.Other Operation of Indian Railways: Meri Saheli, a pan India initiative with an objective of providing enhanced safety and security to lady passengers for their entire journey is also operational.
Himachal Pradesh: The 1st Indian State to Approve Policy for Drones
Himachal Pradesh (HP) becomes the first state in India to approve drone policy and public use of drones. The ‘Himachal Pradesh Drone Policy 2022’ was approved by the chief minister of HP, Jai Ram Thakur. The policy visions to create drone ecosystem built upon the foundation of Governance and Reforms Using Drones (GARUD). The aim is to propagate the use of drone-enabled technology in different sectors such as defence, transport, health, agriculture and more.
- Himachal’s drone policy mainly focuses on creating drone-enabled technology, creation of manpower through the establishment of training schools, startup and innovation schemes, and more.
India-Israel marks 30 years of Diplomatic Ties: Adopts Vision Statement to Boost Defence Cooperation
Marking the 30th anniversary of the India-Israel diplomatic relations, India and Israel adopted the “Vision Statement” to strengthen the defence cooperation between India and Israel in the future. The year 2022 also marks the Israel’s 74th year of Independence.
- During his visit to India, Benjamin(Benny) Gantz, Defence Minister, Israel held bilateral talks with Raj Nath Singh, Union Minister, Ministry of Defence, India, in New Delhi, Delhi and discussed the defence cooperation and prevailing global and regional scenario.
- He also met with Prime Minister(PM) Narendra Modi and reviewed India-Israel relations and reiterate the commitment to expand the cooperation for the security and prosperity of India and Israel.
- Defence Minister of Israel, Benjamin Gantz received a Tri-Service Guard of Honour and he also laid a wreath at National War Memorial in New Delhi.
Assam Celebrates Baikho Festival for Good Harvest and Rain
The ancient tradition known as Baikho festival, a spring festival, is annually celebrated in the month of June across the state of Assam. The festival is predominately celebrated by the Rabha tribes. Rabha is a Tibeto-Burman agriculture based community who resides majorly in Lower Assam, Garo hills and Dooar region in West Bengal.
- The celebration of Baikho festival is meant to bring abundant crops and good health.
- The festival is celebrated with a series of rituals are carried out to ward off evil spirits, spark ample rains and bring good will to the community.

Israel Signs First Arab Free Trade Agreement with UAE
On May 2022, Israel signed a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), its first deal with an Arab country. The agreement was signed in Dubai by Israel’s Economy and Industry Minister Orna Barbivay and the UAE’s Economy Minister Abdalla Bin Touq Al Marri
- For UAE, the deal with Israel is its second bilateral free trade agreement after India (Signed in February 2022). UAE was also the third Arab nation to sign a free trade deal after Egypt and Jordon
- With this agreement, UAE became the first Gulf country to normalize ties with Israel.
European Parliament votes to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2035
The European Parliament approved a proposal made by the European Commission in 2021 to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2035 to fight against climate change through the faster development of electric vehicles.
i.The vote was held on an amendment which upholds a key pillar of the European Union’s plans to cut net planet-warming emissions 55 percent by 2030, from 1990 levels – a target that requires faster emissions reductions from industry, energy and transport.
ii The European Union assembly voted in Strasbourg, France (Headquarters of European Parliament) to require automakers to cut carbon-dioxide emissions by 100 percent by the middle of the next decade. The mandate would amount to a prohibition on the sale in the 27-nation EU of new cars powered by gasoline or diesel.

BRICS PartNIR Innovation Centre Signs MoU with NDB
On 14th June 2022 the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) Partnership on New Industrial Revolution (PartNIR) Innovation Centre and the BRICS New Development Bank (NDB) signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate bilateral cooperation and promote the common development of BRICS countries.
- The MoU was signed by Huang Wenhui, executive vice chairman of the BRICS PartNIR Innovation Center council, and Marcos Troyjo, president of the NDB during a conference in Xiamen, East China’s Fujian Province.
- Under this MoU, both sides will prioritize cooperation in fields such as Artificial Intelligence(AI), the industrial internet, energy conservation and environmental protection through joint research, personnel training and information sharing on infrastructure and sustainable programs.
Key Points:
i.Aim – To promote Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in BRICS as well as other emerging markets and developing countries.
- It also paves way to collaborate in the areas of information sharing on projects, people training and joint research.
ii.BRICS is home to over 40% of the world’s population and about a quarter of the world’s economy.

IRDAI extended Use and File Procedure for Life Insurance products; EGI launches Health Insurance Cash Advance
The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has extended the ‘Use and File’ procedure for most of the Life Insurance products which means the life insurance companies can also launch these products without prior approval of IRDAI.
- However, Board approved product management and pricing policy (BAPMPP) is required.
- This move comes after the similar relaxations were extended to all the Health Insurance products and to almost all the General Insurance products.
Key Points:
i.Earlier it was made mandatory for the insurance companies to take prior approval of IRDAI before launching any life insurance product.
ii.The Board should include Product Management Committee (PMC), which shall have Appointed Actuary, Chief Risk Officer, Chief Marketing/Distribution Officer, Chief Technology Officer and Chief Compliance Officer of the insurer as members and also an option to include other members of its Senior Management as Invitees.
- The PMC will review and approve the products/riders in line with BAPMPP.
Benefits:
i.This move will enable Life Insurers to launch most of the products (except Individual Savings, Individual Pensions and Annuity) in a timely manner according to the needs of market.
ii.This will also result in improving ease of doing business for the insurers.
Edelweiss General Insurance launches Health Insurance Cash Advance
On June 13, 2022, Edelweiss General Insurance (EGI) launched Health Insurance Cash Advance, an Out-of-Network Cash Advance facility to help customers with monetary support at any hospital which is not part of EGI’s network.
Key Points:
i.The new cash advance facility will provide up to Rs 10000 to customers to take care of admission charges or other expenses during the hospitalization. The advance will be adjusted at the time of claim.
ii.Generally, policyholders have to pay out of their own pocket to avail treatment at non network hospitals.
iii.This launch is based upon the qualitative research conducted by EGI across 4 cities of Mumbai (Maharashtra), Delhi, Bengaluru (Karnataka), and Kolkata (West Bengal).
Steps to follow for Out-of-Network Cash Advance
i..Gets admitted to the nearest available hospital

- This is a 15-month pilot project launched in Maharashtra, after which UN Women and LinkedIn will incorporate lessons learned and evaluative feedback to improve the programmes.

- Aim – To create a cadre of women who will acquire new digital and employability skills, leading to better jobs.
Highlights:
i.The project will cultivate the digital, soft and employability skills of 2,000 women and present them with a range of career-building opportunities through job fairs, mentoring sessions and peer-to-peer networks.
- The 3-year regional collaboration will digitally upskill women, providing them greater access to jobs and equipping them to fully participate in the formal economy.
ii.The partnership will be guided by the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), that guide businesses on how to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment in the workplace, marketplace and community.

WHO awards PGI Chandigarh resource centre for tobacco Control
Recognising its efforts in advancing tobacco control, the World Health Organization (WHO) has awarded the Resource Centre for Tobacco Control (e-RCTC) of the Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh with the Regional Director Special Recognition Award.
i.The Resource Centre for Tobacco Control provides information related to tobacco control in India, including circulars and orders, policies and legislations, multidisciplinary publications.
ii.The e-RCTC, a joint initiative of the PGIMER and the UNION-SEA, was set up in 2018 by 25 organisations working over tobacco control in India with an aim to showcase tobacco control initiatives.
iii. The portal has attracted 4.2 lakh visitors from 100 countries in three years.

S L Thaosen appointed as Director-General of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB)
Sujoy Lal Thaosen (S L Thaosen), Madhya Pradesh-cadre 1988 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, has been appointed as the new Director-General (DG) of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Thaosen has been serving as the Special Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF).
i. The post of SSB chief has been lying vacant after incumbent DG Kumar Rajesh Chandra retired on 31st December 2021. Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) DG Sanjay Arora has been holding the additional charge of the SashastraSeema Bal DG since December 2021.

HomoSEP: A Robot to Eliminate Manual Scavenging in India
Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) has developed ‘HomoSEP,’ a robot to eliminate manual scavenging in India, is all set for field deployment in Tamil Nadu. The aim is to prevent deaths which are reported every year across India due to manual scavenging in septic tanks, despite bans and prohibitory orders. The robot has been developed over the last several years by Prabhu Rajagopal of the Centre for Nondestructive Evaluation, IIT Madras and team.
Mechanism:
- The HomoSEP robot can homogenise the hard sludge in septic tanks through a custom-developed rotary blade mechanism and pump the tank slurry using an integrated suction mechanism.
- The sanitation workers will be able to operate the robot on their own, after being provided with the relevant training and appropriate guidance. And the safety of the workers will be attained.

Haploptychius sahyadriensis: India’s Newest Recorded Snail Found in Maharashtra
The Haploptychius sahyadriensis, a carnivorous land snail, India’s newest recorded snail, was discovered in the western Ghats (northern part) of Maharashtra and is endemic to the Vishalgad Conservation Reserve in Kolhapur, Maharashtra.
- It is named after the type locality of the species in the northern part of the Western Ghats, which is Sahyadri in Sanskrit.
Key points:
i.The Haploptychius sahyadriensis, is the 3rd member of the genus Haploptychius, that was placed based on shell morphology and genital characters. The other two being H. andamanicus and H. pfeifferi were recorded in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the 1860s.
ii.The new snail has been described in latest issue of Molluscan Research, an international journal, by Amrut Bhosale, Tejas Thackeray of the Mumbai-based Thackeray Wildlife Foundation and Omkar Yadav of the Medha-based Amdar Shashikant Shinde Mahavidyalay.
About the Sahyadri snail:
i.The Sahyadri snail has a sub-oblique helical shell, low spire with a strong parietal lamella.
ii.The new species also has a unique genital anatomy; it has a long penis with a penial sheath and hooks, atrium and vagina with longitudinal ridges and irregular transverse ridges but without any hooks.
Why are snails important?
Snails are important for the ecosystem. Shelled land snails are important in calcium cycling. They harvest calcium from their food, concentrate it in their shells that are made mainly from calcium carbonate, and pass it up the food chain as they are consumed by predators including insects, lizards, snakes, salamanders, birds, and mammals.

4th Khelo India Youth Games 2021: Hosted and topped by Haryana
i.The 4th edition of Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2021 was hosted by Haryana at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula, Haryana from June 4-13 2022.
ii.It was inaugurated by the Union Minister Amit Shah, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in the presence of Haryana Chief Minister (CM) Manohar Lal Khattar and Union Minister Anurag Thakur, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MoYAS), among others.
iii.The sporting events were held in five different cities viz. Panchkula (Haryana), Shahabad (Haryana), Ambala (Haryana), Chandigarh and Delhi.
iv.Haryana won the KIYG 2021 with 52 gold medals, followed by Maharashtra with 45 and Karnataka with 22.
- This was Haryana’s second KIYG title. It won the inaugural title in 2018.
v.For the 1st time ever, KIYG roped in sponsors. The State Bank of India (SBI) was the title sponsor of KIYG 2021 while Punjab National Bank (PNB) is Associate Sponsor.
About Khelo India:
KIYG, formerly Khelo India School Games (KISG) is the annual national level multidisciplinary grassroot games in India. It is the flagship event of the Indian Government’s Khelo India (Let’s play India) proposed in 2017.
Under this movement, KIYG and the Khelo India University Games (KIUG) were set up as annual events where youngsters, representing their states and universities, respectively, showcased their skills and competed for medals.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 2022 – June 15
The United Nations(UN)’s World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) is annually observed across the globe on 15th June to provide a platform to offer a better understanding about the abuse and neglect of older persons. The day also aims to create awareness about the cultural, social, economic and demographic processes affecting elder abuse and neglect.
The 2022 WEAAD focus on “Combatting Elder Abuse”.
Background:
i.International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse(INPEA) initiated and designated the 15th June as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day in 2006.
ii.The United Nations General Assembly(UNGA) adopted the resolution A/RES/66/127 in December 2011 and proclaimed the 15th June of every year as the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
iii.The first ever UN-recognised World Elder Abuse Awareness Day was observed on 15th June 2012.

Global Wind Day 2022 – June 15 Global Wind Day is annually observed across the globe on 15th June to provide a platform to discover wind energy, its power and the possibilities in shaping the energy system.
The day is annually organised by WindEurope (European Wind Energy Association – EWEA) and Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC).
Background:
i.The first ever Wind Day, a pan-European campaign to promote wind energy, was organised by European Wind Energy Association(EWEA).

Prem Chand Aggrawal, the Finance Minister of Uttarakhand, has presented Uttarakhand’s Rs 65,571.49 crore budget for the financial year 2022-23 (FY23) in the ongoing budget session of the state Legislative Assembly in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
Significance
The proposed budget includes the highest allocations for pension payments to the elderly, widows with no one to rely on, abandoned women, differently-abled, economically weak farmers, and schemes aimed at improving gender ratios and providing health insurance coverage to all.
Budget Highlights
- Revenue Expenditure – Rs. 49,013.31 crore
- Capital Expenditure – Rs. 16,558.18 crore
- Total estimated receipts for FY23 – Rs. 63,774.55 crore

Pontaq signed MoU with TANSIM to Support Startups
Pontaq, a Cross Border Innovation Fund, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Tamil Nadu Startup and Innovation Mission(TANSIM) – StartupTN backed by Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Department, Government of Tamil Nadu(TN). Under this MoU, the government of TN will help the Pontaq-supported companies to expand their business operation in TN.
- Pontaq is an innovation fund which invest in early stage technology businesses in the United Kingdom(UK), India, the United States of America(USA) and Canada.
Key Points:
i.As a part of this, Pontaq has organised an investor summit in TN in which the founders of 50 tech based startup participated.
ii.Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao (KT Rama Rao), Minister for Information Technology(IT), Industries, Municipal Administration & Urban Development, Telangana, virtually attended the event and discussed the business opportunities in Telangana.
iii.Some of the participants presented their business ideas during the pitch session and shared their journey, vision and how they solve real world problem using new technologies like Artificial Intelligence(AI), Internet of Things(ToI).
Tamil Nadu signed MoU with TTL to transform 71 government ITIs
The Department of Employment and Training, Government of Tamil Nadu(TN) and the Tata Technologies Limited(TTL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for upgrading the 71 Industrial Technical Institutes (ITIs) run by the Government of TN into modern technology centres. The total estimated cost of the project is Rs 2877.43 crore. The proposed investment by TTL on the project would be Rs 2,204 crore.
Objective: To bridge the gap between academia and industry by facilitate innovations & skill development of students and industry professionals to meet the industry 4.0 standards.
- The MoU was signed in the presence of TN Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, C.V. Ganesan, Minister for Labour Welfare and Skill Development(TN) and S. Ramadorai, Chairman of Tata Technologies Limited.
Features of the MoU:
i.Under this MoU, the ITIs will be transformed into centres enabled with Industry 4.0-relevant technologies, infrastructure, industry-oriented courseware and training facilities.
ii.The TTL will collaborate with the state government and 20 global industry partners to implement this project.
iii.The tata technologies will also provide industrial support for trainers’ training and ensure the maintenance of the new infrastructure.
Punjab govt launches e-stamping facility, abolishes physical stamp papers of all denominations
The Punjab Government has launched e-stamping facility by abolishing the physical stamp papers, in order to bring efficiency and check the pilferage of state revenue.
- The facility had been started with the help of National e-Governance Services Limited (NeSL) and can be availed in banks.
i.The e-stamping facility is now available for all denominations starting from Rs.1, which was earlier applicable only to a value above Rs 20,000. With this facility the government saves at least Rs 35 crore annually spent on printing of stamp papers.
ii.The Punjab government will pay a commission of 2% to the stamp vendors on e-stamps ranging below 20,000, while the public would get stamp paper at the actual rate and no extra commission will be levied.
