NHB Released Report on Trends and Progress of Housing in India 2024In March 2025, New Delhi (Delhi)-based National Housing Bank (NHB), apex financial institution for housing, released the Report on Trends and Progress of Housing in India, 2024 in accordance to provisions of Section 42 of NHB Act, 1987.
Key Findings:
i.Increase in individual housing loan: As on September 30 2024, individual housing loans stood at Rs 33.53 lakh crore, reflecting growth of 14% during the same period of last year.
ii.Distribution of housing loans among different income groups: Middle-Income Group (MIG) accounted 44% of the total housing loans, as on September 30, 2024.
iii.Disbursement of Housing Loans: During the 1st Half of (H1: April-September) of Financial Year 2024-25 (FY25), individual housing loan disbursements were Rs 4.10 lakh crore while disbursements during FY24 (ended on March 31, 2024) were Rs 9.07 lakh crore.
iv.Growth in Housing Price Index: As per the report, the housing price index i.e. NHB-RESIDEX, which monitors the price movements of residential properties, showed a Year-on-Year (Y-o-Y) growth of 6.8% as against 4.9% during last year.

India’s AI Revolution: A Roadmap to Viksit BharatIndia is undergoing a significant transformation in Artificial Intelligence (AI), driven by various initiatives like: IndiaAI Mission and the establishment of Centres of Excellence (CoE) for AI are bolstering India’s AI ecosystem.
- All these initiatives are in alignment with the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, where India aims to become a global hub of AI, leveraging cutting-edge technology for economic growth, governance, and societal progress.
- In 2024, the Government of India(GoI) approved the IndiaAI Mission with an outlay of Rs 10,300 crore over five years to strengthen AI capabilities in India.
- The Mission is being implemented by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) through ‘IndiaAI’ Independent Business Division (IBD) under Digital India Corporation (DIC).
AI Revolution:
i.Under IndiaAI Mission, the Government of India (GoI) aims to develop a high-end common computing facility equipped with 18,693 Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), making it one of the most extensive AI compute infrastructures internationally.
ii So far, the GoI has established 3 AI CoE. The CoE in healthcare will be led by New Delhi(Delhi) based Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) Delhi and AIIMS Delhi, while the CoE in agriculture will be led by IIT Ropar,Punjab. The sustainable cities CoE will be led by IIT Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh(UP).
- GoI announced a new CoE for AI in education (which will be 4th CoE in AI), in the Union Budget for Financial Year 2025-26 (FY26) with an outlay of Rs 500 crore.
iii.The GoI is planning to set up 5 National CoE for Skilling in India, in collaboration with international partners to support the ‘Make for India’, Make for the World’s vision in manufacturing and AI innovation.
- These CoE will train youth with AI industry-relevant expertise.
DBT & GoAS Sign MoU Under BioE3 Policy to Strengthen Centre-State PartnershipOn March 12, 2025, the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) under The Ministry of Science and Technology (MoS&T), Government of India (GoI), and the Government of Assam (GoAS) formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Centre-State partnership under the BioE3 (Biotechnology for Economy, Environment, and Employment) Policy in New Delhi (Delhi).
- It is the 1st Centre-State partnership under the BioE3 framework, aims to bolster high-performance bio-manufacturing and cultivate a sustainable biotechnology ecosystem in Assam.
Key Highlights:
i.BioE3 Policy was approved by the Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi on August 24, 2024. To envisage India as a global leader in bio-based innovations.
ii.It emphasizes sustainable bio-manufacturing across various sectors, including bio-based chemicals, Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), Biopolymers, enzymes, climate-resilient agriculture, functional foods, smart proteins, carbon capture and utilization, precision bio-therapeutics (cell and gene therapy, messenger Ribonucleic Acid (mRNA) therapeutics and monoclonal antibody), and advanced marine and space research.
iii.The policy also focuses on developing Bio-Enablers such as bio-foundries, bio-manufacturing hubs, and Bio-Artificial Intelligence (AI) platforms.
iv.The MoU establishes a strategic collaboration where DBT will provide guidance and facilitate partnerships, while the Assam Government will lead initiatives by setting up a State BioE3 Cell and formulating the Assam BioE3 Action Plan.
v.This collaboration leverages Assam’s rich biodiversity and agricultural strengths to develop a robust bio-manufacturing sector.

DoP Signs MoU with FSID, IISc Bengaluru for Documentation of Digital Address DPI Tech Architecture
On March 11, 2025, the Department of Posts (DoP), under the Ministry of Communications (MoC), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bengaluru (Karnataka) based the Foundation for Science Innovation and Development (FSID), Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru at Dak Bhawan in New Delhi (Delhi).
- The MoU seeks to design the technology architecture for the Digital Address Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) to create a secure, scalable, and interoperable addressing system.
- It marks a significant step towards a seamless, technology-driven addressing system, reinforcing India’s leadership in digital innovation and public infrastructure development.
i.The MoU was signed at the launch of the “Digital Address Code” initiative by the DoP, aimed at creating a standardized, geo-coded addressing system in India.
- This initiative seeks to establish “Address as a Service” (AaaS), streamlining addressing solutions for the efficient delivery of both public and private services.
ii.The Digital Address DPI will revolutionize address data creation, sharing, and consumption in India. It will integrate with government, business, and citizen services to enhance service delivery, emergency response, financial inclusion, and urban planning.
- The system will benefit both urban and rural communities by improving location intelligence.
MoD Signs Rs 2,906 Crore Radar Contract with BEL for IAF
On 12 March 2025, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed a Rs 2,906 crore capital acquisition contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh (UP) (a leading defence electronics manufacturing facility) for the procurement of Low-level Transportable Radar (LLTR), known as “Ashwini” for the Indian Air Force (IAF).
- The contract was signed in the presence of Rajesh Kumar Singh, Secretary, MoD in New Delhi, Delhi.
i.The Radar is designed and developed by the Electronics & Radar Development Establishment (LRDE), a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) laboratory under the MoD.
ii.The Radar is an active electronically scanned phased array technology with a solid-state design and is capable of tracking aerial targets from high-speed fighter jets to slow-moving targets such as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), and helicopters.
Note: BEL, established in 1954, is a Navratna Defence Public Sector Undertaking (DPSU) under the MoD headquartered in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
IN inducts 9th ACTCM Barge LSAM 23 to strengthen maritime logisticsOn 12 March 2025, Indian Navy (IN) inducted its 9th Ammunition Cum Torpedo Cum Missile (ACTCM) Barge, Landing Ship Ammunition (LSAM) 23 (Yard 133), was held at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai (Maharashtra). The Chief Guest for the event was Commodore Manish Vig, General Manager (Quality Assurance), Naval Dockyard (Mumbai).
Contract and Construction:
- In 2021, the IN signed a contract with Thane (Maharashtra)-based M/s Suryadipta Projects Private Limited, a Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) shipyard for the construction and delivery of 11 ACTCM Barges.
- Out of these, 8 barges have already been delivered. The shipyard has also secured an additional contract to build 4 Sullage Barges for the Indian Navy, showcasing the Navy’s commitment to supporting MSMEs.
Design and Testing:
- These barges were indigenously designed by the shipyard in collaboration with an Indian Ship Designing firm.
- The design underwent model testing at the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Visakhapatnam(Andhra Pradesh, AP), to ensure seaworthiness.
- The construction adheres to the rules and regulations of the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS).
Significance:
- The induction of LSAM 23 aligns with the Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, promoting self-reliance in defense manufacturing.
- These barges will enhance the IN’s operational capabilities by facilitating the transportation, embarkation, and disembarkation of ammunition and other articles to naval platforms, both at jetties and outer harbors.

Overview of PM Narendra Modi’s Visit to Mauritius from March 11-12, 2025Prime Minister (PM) of India Narendra Modi was on a two-day official visit to the Republic of Mauritius from March 11 to 12, 2025 to strengthen the long-standing relationship between India and the island nation, at the invitation of PM of Mauritius Navinchandra Ramgoolam.
- PM Narendra Modi received a warm welcome from the Indian diaspora in Mauritius, with women honoring him through Geet Gawai, a traditional Bihari Bhojpuri musical performance.
- During his visit, PM Narendra Modi held a bilateral meetings with Mauritius PM Ramgoolam and other leaders, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation across various sectors and several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were exchanged.
Highlights of the visit:
i.On March 12 2025, PM Narendra Modi attended Mauritius’ 57th National Day celebrations at Champ de Mars Racecourse in Port Louis(Mauritius), as the Chief Guest for the second time, following his first visit in 2015.
- The Indian Navy(IN) contingent participated in Mauritius’ National Day parade.
ii.During the visit, PM Narendra Modi was conferred with Mauritius’ highest civilian honor, The Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean (GCSK) at the ceremony, held in Port Louis, Mauritius.
iii.PM Modi held delegation-level talks with Mauritius PM Ramgoolam. Both countries signed multiple agreements to enhance cooperation. A total of eight MoUs were exchanged.
iv.PM Modi introduced a new vision for the Global South, called “MAHASAGAR” (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions).

QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025 : ISM Dhanbad Ranked as India’s Top University For Engineering-Mineral and MiningOn March 11, 2025, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) released the 15th edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025. Among Indian institutions, the Indian Institute of Technology, IIT(Indian School of Mines, ISM) Dhanbad, (Jharkhand) achieved the highest global ranking, for the first time securing the 20th position worldwide in the Engineering – Mineral and Mining subject area.
- Globally, United States of America (USA) based universities dominated in 32 academic disciplines, with Harvard University, USA leading in 15 subjects and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA in 11.
- The UK secured the top position in 18 subjects, with the University of Cambridge, UK excelling in four.
Key Highlights of the Rankings:
i.ISM University Dhanbad, topped India’s rankings in Engineering – Mineral and Mining, with a remarkable improvement from its previous position of 41st globally.
- The university scored 74.7/100, making it India’s highest performer in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025.
ii.IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay are the only Indian institutes in the global top 50 for Engineering & Technology, securing 26th and 28th positions respectively.
iii.Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (Deemed University), secured the 26th rank globally for Dentistry, representing India’s strong presence in healthcare education.
iv.IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore retained their positions in Business and Management Studies but declined from previous rankings 2024, with IIM Ahmedabad dropping from 22nd to 27th and IIM Bangalore from 32nd to 40th.
v.IIT Madras (Petroleum Engineering) and JNU (Development Studies) remained in the top 50 but experienced slight declines.

RBI & NCFE Launch Nationwide Financial Literacy CampaignIn March 2025, Mumbai(Maharashtra) based Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and Navi Mumbai based National Centre for Financial Education (NCFE) under the Ministry of Finance (MoF) launched nationwide campaigns to enhance financial literacy in India.
- It aims to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills to manage finances effectively, safeguard against fraud, and ensure financial inclusion across India.
Key Initiatives to Promote Financial Literacy:
i.Financial Literacy Centres (FLCs):Lead Banks have established FLCs to conduct special camps for various target groups.
- Banks regularly organize camps through FLCs to promote financial awareness.
ii.Public Awareness Campaigns: The “RBI Kehta Hai” campaign uses multimedia and multilingual platforms to educate the public on safe banking practices.
- Mass media campaigns disseminate essential financial awareness messages to all age groups.
iii.Financial Awareness Messages (FAME): The RBI has created the FAME booklet, providing standardized content to enhance financial awareness on key banking topics, tailored to various target groups, including senior citizens.
iv.National Strategy for Financial Education (NSFE): The NSFE is formulated and implemented by the NCFE in collaboration with financial sector regulators.
- NCFE, in collaboration with the Centre for Financial Literacy (CFL), conducts Financial Education (FE) programmes for audiences below 18 years and above 60 years.
- NCFE has conducted 54 financial literacy programmes in the North Eastern States over the last three years, with positive feedback from participants.
v.Pan-India Financial Literacy Survey : In 2017, the RBI surveyed in 2017 across 29 states and 5 Union Territories (UTs) (excluding Andaman & Nicobar (A&N) Islands) in India using the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development/ International Network on Financial Education( OECD/INFE) Toolkit.
- The survey measured financial literacy across financial knowledge, attitude, and behavior.

RBI Introduced Framework for Recognising SROs for AA EcosystemIn March 2025, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) introduced a new framework for the recognition of a Self-Regulatory Organisations (SROs) for the Account Aggregator (AA) ecosystem. The framework has outlined the key characteristics, responsibilities, eligibility criteria, and governance aspects of SRO-AA.
- RBI has clarified that SRO-AA will operate within the existing regulatory framework for the AA ecosystem, while, technical specifications will continue to be framed and published by Mumbai (Maharashtra)-based Reserve Bank Information Technology Private Limited (ReBIT).
- The interested and eligible parties are required to apply through PRAVAAH (Platform for Regulatory Application, VAlidation and AutHorisation) portal before June 15, 2025.
Framework for SRO-AA:
i.As per the new framework, it is mandatory for SRO-AA to be set up as a not-for-profit company registered under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013.
ii.The eligible entity is required to maintain at least net worth of Rs 2 crore within 1 year after recognition as an SRO-AA by the RBI, or before starting of operations as an SRO-AA, whichever is earlier.
iii.The eligible entity should not hold 10% or more of its paid-up capital either singly or acting in concert.

Moody’s Upgrades India’s GDP Growth to Exceed 6.5% for FY26On March 12, 2025, New York, the United States of America(the USA) based Moody’s Rating released it report titled ‘Banking System Outlook – India’, revised India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) forecast for the Financial Year 2025-26 (FY26), projecting it to exceed 6.5%, up from 6.3% in FY25.
- The upgrade is driven by higher government capital expenditure(CapEx), tax cuts for middle-class income groups to boost consumption, and monetary easing through interest rate reductions.
- India’s real GDP growth had slowed to 5.6% in the July-September 2024 quarter(Q2 of FY25) before rebounding to 6.2% in the following quarter.
Key Points:
i.Inflation: Moody’s expects India’s average inflation rate to decline to 4.5% in FY26 from 4.8% in FY25, reflecting the positive effects of monetary easing.
ii.Sector Contributions: The boost in economic growth is attributed to increased government capital expenditure, tax cuts, and easing of interest rates, all of which are expected to strengthen consumption.
iii.Banking Sector: Moody’s projects a stable outlook for India’s banking sector in FY26, although it expects a moderate deterioration in asset quality, in unsecured retail loans, Micro Finance Loans (MFLs), and Small Business Loans (SBLs).
- Banks’ profitability will remain adequate, with only marginal declines in net interest margins due to modest rate cuts.
iv.Loan Growth: System-wide loan growth is anticipated to slow to 11-13% in FY26, compared to the average of 17% from March 2022 to March 2024, as banks aim to keep loan growth in line with deposit expansion.
Note: Moody’s also indicated that after a temporary slowdown in mid-2024, India’s economy will reaccelerate, maintaining its strong growth trajectory heading into FY26.

Tejas Fighter Jet Successfully Test Fires Air-to-Air Astra Missile in OdishaOn 12th March 2025, India’s indigenously developed Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas AF MK1 successfully test-fired the Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air Missile (BVRAAM) Astra off the coast of Chandipur, Odisha.
- The test was conducted by the Bengaluru (Karnataka) based Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), demonstrating the missile’s ability to achieve a direct hit on a flying target, validating its precision and operational readiness.
Key Details of the Test:
i.Missile Specifications: The Astra missile, designed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), is capable of engaging aerial targets at distances exceeding 100 kilometers (km) and features advanced guidance systems for high accuracy.
ii.Aircraft Used: The test utilized the LCA Tejas AF MK1 prototype, a 4.5-generation multirole fighter jet developed indigenously.
- Bengaluru (Karnataka) based Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) was the manufacturer of the Tejas aircraft.
iii.Outcome: All subsystems performed optimally, meeting mission objectives. The missile’s success paves the way for its integration into the upgraded Tejas AF MK1A variant.
iv.Certification Agencies: The Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification (CEMILAC) and Directorate General of Aeronautical Quality Assurance (DG-AQA).
v.About ASTRA:The 3.8-metre-long ‘state-of-the-art’ Astra missile has a launch weight of about 154 kg. It uses solid-fuel propellant and a 15 kg high-explosive warhead, activated by a proximity fuse.
- Astra has already been inducted into the Indian Air Force (IAF) and integrated with frontline fighter aircraft Sukhoi 30 MKI
vi.The success of the test-firing is attributed to the joint efforts of scientists, engineers, and technicians from ADA, DRDO, and HAL, along with valuable support from the CEMILAC and DG-AQA.
Significance for India’s Defence:
i.Indigenization: The test marks progress in India’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, reducing reliance on imported defence systems.
ii.Operational Readiness: With the Astra missile already inducted into the Indian Air Force (IAF), this trial reinforces its combat readiness for air superiority missions.
iii.Technological Leap: The BVRAAM capability enhances the IAF’s ability to neutralize enemy aircraft at long ranges, strengthening air defence mechanisms.

Former India Cricketer Syed Abid Ali Passed Away
On 12 March 2025, Syed Abid Ali, a former Indian cricketer, passed away at the age of 83 in California, the United States of America (USA). He was born on 9 September 1941, in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh,AP (now Telangana).
- Syed Abid Ali represented India in 29 Test Matches from 1967 to 1974 and 5 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) between 1974 and 1975.
i.He scored 1,018 runs with the highest score of 81 and took 47 wickets in his Test career and, he scored 93 runs with a top score of 70 and took 7 wickets in his ODIs.
ii.In First-Class cricket, he played for Hyderabad in the Ranji Trophy. In 212 matches, he scored 8,732 runs with 13 centuries and 31 fifties. He also claimed 397 wickets with 14 five-wicket hauls.
iii.He played a crucial role in India’s historic 1971 Test series wins against England and the West Indies.
iv.He was part of the Ajit Wadekar-led Indian team that played its first-ever ODI in 1974 against England at Headingley in England, the United Kingdom (UK).

MP FM Jagdish Devda Presented Rs 4.21 Lakh Crore Budget for FY26In March 2025, the Deputy Chief Minister (Dy CM) and Minister in Charge of Finance, Madhya Pradesh (MP) Jagdish Devda presented state’s annual budget worth Rs 4.21 lakh crore (Rs 4,21,032 crore) for Financial Year 2025-26 (FY26) at MP Legislative Assembly in Bhopal, MP. This is for the 1st time the budget for MP has breached the mark of Rs 4 lakh crore.
- The budget outlay for FY26 marked an increase of about 15% i.e. Rs 3.65 lakh crore for FY25.
- The budget is focused on GYAN (Garib, Yuva, Annadata, and Nari) which aims to double the size of the state budget in the next 5 years.
i.Total revenue receipts are estimated at Rs 2,90,879 crore for FY26, of which state’s tax revenue (Rs 1,09,157 crore), and state’s share in central government funds (Rs 1,11,662 crore).
ii.For FY26, Fiscal deficit(FD) is estimated to be Rs 78,902 crore, which accounts 4.66% of state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) for FY26, marking an increase of 4.15% from ongoing FY.
iii.Allocations to key sectors: agriculture & allied sector (Rs 58,257 crore); healthcare sector (Rs 23,535 crore); energy (Rs 19,000 crore); urban development (Rs 18,715 crore); rural development (Rs 19,050 crore), among others.
- Of the total amount allocated for urban development of the state, Rs 2,005 crore has been earmarked for the preparations of Simhastha Kumbh Mela, which will be held in 2028.

Puducherry CM N Rangasamy Presents Rs13,600 Crore Budget for FY26On 12 March 2025, Natesan Krishnasamy Rangasamy (N. Rangasamy), the Chief Minister (CM) of the Union Territory (UT) of Puducherry, who also holds the Finance portfolio, presented a Rs 13,600 crore tax-free Budget for the Financial Year 2025-26 (FY26).
- Of the total budget, Rs 11,624.72 crore was allocated for Revenue Expenditure (RevEx), and Rs 1,975.28 crore was allocated for Capital Expenditure (CapEx).
- The CapEx is 9.80% of the total expenditure, representing a significant increase from 1.66% in 2021-22, nearly a ten-fold growth.
- FY 2026 Budget is his fifth successive budget in the fifteenth legislative assembly
Budget Overview:
i.Puducherry’s Revenue Receipts are estimated at Rs 7,641.40 crore.
ii.Central assistance, including the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF), is estimated at Rs 3,432.18 crore, the Central Road Fund (CRF) allocation is Rs 25 crore, and the Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSSs) allocation is Rs 400 crore.
iii.The Government of India (GoI) has approved a Net Borrowing Ceiling (NBC), including a Negotiated Loan, of Rs 2,101.42 crore to manage the Fiscal deficit (FD).
iv.The Puducherry Budget has allocated Rs 2,760 crore for Special Budgeting for FY26:
- Rs 1,458 crore for Gender Budgeting.
- Rs 613 crore for Youth Budgeting.
- Rs 689 crore for Green Budgeting.

The facility is operated by Sify Infinit Spaces Limited, a leading data centre provider based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu (TN).
- The facility is expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing data processing and storage capabilities, catering to the needs of businesses and industries across India.
- It marks a significant milestone in the development of India’s digital infrastructure, enhancing the country’s AI capabilities and supporting the growth of its digital economy.
i.The campus is North India’s largest data centre facility, with a total capacity of 130+ Megawatt (MW).
ii.It features three scalable towers, both horizontally and vertically, supported by a dedicated 220 Kilovolt (KV) on-premise substation.
iii.Sify Noida 02 interconnected with Noida 01 through 4 diverse fibre paths, providing direct connectivity to hyperscalers, Over-the-Top (OTT) players, and cloud connect nodes.
