Cargill collaborates with UNWFP to launch nutrition program in RajasthanOn January 27, 2021 Cargill in collaboration with the United Nations World Food Programme(UNWFP) and Centre for Responsible Business (CRB) launched a programme to improve nutrition status in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

i.The program is supported by the Department of Women & Child Development, Government of Rajasthan.

ii.It is aligned with the Government of India’s National Nutrition Strategy and the Poshan Abhiyan.

Aim– To address the issue of Malnutrition with child, pregnant and lactating mothers that leads to low birth weight, stunting, and anaemia.

Benefits of the Programme:

Nutritional Intake of Child 

The program aims to address the nutritional intake in first 1000 days of a child’s life, i.e., from conception to two years after birth.

Take-Home Ration

i.It will collaborate with Anganwadi centers (AWCs) to enhance the nutritional quality of Take-Home Ration (THR) served to children, pregnant and lactating mothers

ii.This will be done by establishing a standardized production unit run by trained women following quality and nutrition guidelines.

Note– THR is distributed through the Integrated Child Development Centers (ICDS)

Nutritional awareness

i.It will improve knowledge and practices to prevent malnutrition among children, adolescent girls, and women through nutrition awareness sessions

ii.In addition to this, it will also deploy nutrition seeking behaviour sessions.

Public-private collaboration

The program, through the public-private collaboration will do the following:

  • Identity gaps in the access and availability of nutritious food
  • Mobilize relevant state-level stakeholders and implement joint approaches for private sector participation for intervention beyond the project period.
