Reliance Infrastructure Limited (RInfra) BSES Delhi Discoms (Electricity Distribution Companies of India) viz. BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) and BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) have signed a power sale agreements (PSA) with Solar Energy Corp of India (SECI) to procure 510MW (Megawatt) of solar and hybrid power (a mix of solar and wind power) at Rs 2.44 per unit and Rs 2.48 per unit respectively.
- Of the total power, 300 MW will be solar power and 210 MW will be hybrid power.
- With this BRPL and BYPL became the first in Delhi to ink an agreement for hybrid power.
Key Points:
i.The contracts have been inked for a period of 25 years.
ii.It is expected that after 18 months the solar and hybrid power will be available to BSES discoms.
iii.It should be noted that hybrid power is a pooled mix of solar and wind power co-located at the same site, wherein one component is at least 33% of the contracted capacity.
- While solar power will help the discoms to meet the day’s peak demand, the wind power will cater to the night-time peak demand.
Reason behind this procurement:
The power tariffs in these contracts are much lower than the average cost of power purchase agreements in general, which are around Rs 5.5 per unit. This agreement cost is also one of the lowest tariffs for renewable energy.
