In August 2026, the Indrajaal-Sigma consortium secured Rs.155 crore orders from Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for the Indrajaal Ranger Mobile Anti-Drone Patrol Vehicle (ADPV), India’s only Anti-Rogue Drone Technology Committee (ARDTC)-approved ADPV and mobile Counter-Unmanned Aircraft System (C-UAS) platform.
- The deployment aims to strengthen India’s indigenous counter-drone capabilities for border security, homeland security, and urban protection missions.
About Indrajaal Ranger Mobile Anti-Drone Patrol Vehicle:
Overview: Indrajaal Ranger is a mobile C-UAS platform developed by Indrajaal Autonomous Defense Systems (IADS) to protect sensitive security environments from rogue drones through detection, tracking, identification, and countermeasures.
Deployment: Built on the Toyota Hilux platform and manufactured at Indrajaal facilities in Hyderabad, Telangana, Ranger is operationally validated and designed for border patrolling, Very Very Important Person (VVIP) protection, urban policing, public events, airports, and critical infrastructure security.
Other Contract: The Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed a contract with General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) to lease two MQ-9B Sea Guardian High-Altitude Long-Endurance (HALE) Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) for Indian Navy (IN) at Rs 1,943 crore for 30 months.
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh Launched RSSDI Rural Outreach Digital Portal and VISHWAS Diabetes Awareness Video Library
In August 2026, the Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, Ministry of Science and Technology (MoS&T)virtually launched the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI) Rural Outreach Digital Portal and launched VISHWAS Diabetes Awareness Video Library.
- The programme was organised by RSSDI on the eve of 80th Independence Day, bringing together leading experts and stakeholders from the diabetes and healthcare ecosystem.
Key Details:
Diabetes Prevention as National Priority: While addressing the launch event, the Union Minister called for making diabetes prevention and preventive healthcare a national priority and emphasized the need for community-led, technology-enabled and data-driven approach to tackle diabetes in rural and underserved areas.
Significance: The newly launched digital portal under the programme is expected to provide a standardised platform for beneficiary registration, systematic treatment documentation, follow-up, programme monitoring and generation of anonymised real-world data for public health planning and research.
RSSDI Rural Outreach Programme: It is a community-driven initiative focused on raising diabetes awareness, early diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and prevention in rural India through village adoption by RSSDI members.
- So far, the programme has reached around 30 villages across several states, with plans for further expansion.
RSSDI: Founded in 1972, RSSDI is Asia’s largest professional medical organisation for diabetes researchers and healthcare providers, with headquarters in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
Tata Power and IIT Bombay Sign MRA to Accelerate Clean Energy Technologies
In August 2026, Tata Power Company Limited and the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay), Mumbai(Maharashtra) signed a Master Research Agreement (MRA) to accelerate the development, scaling, and commercialisation of next-generation energy technologies and clean energy solutions.

Signatories: The agreement was signed by Dr. Praveer Sinha, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD), Tata Power, and Prof. Shrikrishna V. Kulkarni, Dean (Research & Development), IIT Bombay at the IIT Bombay campus, in Mumbai.
Objective: The partnership aims to bridge the gap between laboratory research and commercial deployment by developing scalable, industry-ready energy technologies, accelerating India’s clean energy transition, and strengthening energy security and sustainable development.
Focus Areas: The collaboration will focus on developing solutions in smart grids, power electronics, energy storage systems, electric mobility, cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence (AI) for power systems, digital grid technologies, carbon capture technologies, and circular economy.
Collaboration: The agreement combines IIT Bombay’s advanced scientific research, innovation capabilities, and technology development expertise with Tata Power’s industry experience, large-scale technology deployment capabilities, and commercialisation expertise.

India Launches 1st-ever Guide to Grasslands and ONEs at UNCCD CoP17
In August, the Government of India (GoI) launched its first-ever Guide to Grasslands and Other Open Natural Ecosystems (ONEs) of India during a side event at the 17th Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
- The guide was launched under the guidance of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), to promote the conservation and sustainable management of India’s grasslands and open natural ecosystems.
- Union Minister Bhupender Yadav,MoEFCC, virtually attended the event.
About India’s 1st-ever Guide to Grasslands and ONE:
Aim: The guide is designed to bolster the conservation, restoration and sustainable management of India’s open natural ecosystems and draw scientific attention to landscapes that have traditionally been neglected due to their limited tree cover.
Landscapes Covered: The new guide covers a wide range of ecosystems in India i.e. from Himalayan and Terai grasslands to the Thar and Banni landscapes, Deccan savannas, rocky plateaus, ravines, scrublands, coastal ecosystems and desert landscapes.
Thematic Sections: It features thematic sections which include pastoralism, fire ecology and carbon sequestration.
India And Armenia Signed MoU to Strengthen Bilateral Defence partnership
In August 2026, the Government of India (GoI) through the Ministry of Defence (MoD), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Armenia to strengthen bilateral defence industrial partnership.
- The agreement was signed in Yerevan, Armenia during Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh’s (MoD) two-day official visit, during which he held discussions with Armenian Defence Minister Suren Papikyan and Minister of High Tech Industry Davit Tadevosyan.

SEBI Launches Two New Portals To Strengthen Cybersecurity Incident Reporting
In August 2026, Tuhin Kanta Pandey, Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), launched two new web portals named ‘SEBI Incident Reporting’ and ‘Cyber Suraksha’, designed to strengthen cybersecurity and information sharing across the securities market ecosystem.
- Both these new portals were launched at the inaugural ceremony of SEBI’s Symposium on Cyber Defence, being held from August 17 to 21, 2026 in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
About New Cybersecurity Portals:
SEBI Incident Reporting Portal: This new version of SEBI’s Incident Reporting portal is aimed to make cyber-incident reporting more structured, timely and actionable.
- It is aligned with the Financial Stability Board (FSB)’s Format for Incident Reporting Exchange (FIRE), ensuring smooth exchange of cross-border incident reporting.
Cyber Suraksha Portal: It will serve as a central hub for sharing cybersecurity information, including cybersecurity knowledge, vulnerability warnings, policy measures and incident insights.
NISM RegTech Lab: Tuhin Kanta Pandey, Chairman of SEBI inaugurated the RegTech Lab at the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) Patalganga campus in Mumbai, Maharashtra, to promote technology-enabled and practical learning in regulatory compliance and securities-market regulation.
YES Bank Launches ‘YES Essence’, Women-focused Credit Card
In August 2026, YES Bank Limited, launched ‘YES Essence Credit Card’, a women-focused lifestyle and rewards credit card designed to address the evolving lifestyle and healthcare needs of young professionals, salaried customers, and digital-savvy women.

Qatar-India Postal Remittance Service Powered by UPI Operationalised in Doha
In August 2026, the Qatar-India Postal Remittance Service based on PosTransfer powered by Unified Payments Interface (UPI) was operationalised in Doha, Qatar, enabling faster, secure, and cost-effective cross-border remittance services between Qatar and India.
- The new remittance service between India and Qatar has been developed by Qatar Post in partnership with Department of Posts(DoP), Ministry of Communications, the Universal Postal Union’s Interconnection Platform (UPU-IP), and NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) (India).
About Qatar-India Remittance Service:
Transfer Process: Customers can initiate transfers at Qatar Post outlets by providing the recipient’s UPI ID and required identification details. The recipient in India must activate the facility for receiving international inward remittances through their UPI application(app), after which funds are credited instantly to their UPI-linked bank account.
Transaction Limit: Under the new service, transactions can be initiated for amounts ranging from QAR 10 to QAR 4,000, subject to a maximum equivalent of Rs 1 lakh per transaction.
- Also, the customer will have to pay QAR 15 for each transaction as a flat service charge.
BSE and PHDCCI Sign MoU to Expand Capital-Market Access for MSMEs
In August 2026, BSE Limited (formerly Bombay Stock Exchange) and the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)’ access to equity financing through capital markets by creating awareness about Initial Public Offerings (IPOs), SME (Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises) listing procedures, and the benefits of becoming publicly listed companies.
Key Features of MoU:
Signatories: The MoU was signed by Sundararaman Ramamurthy, Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), BSE Limited; and Dr. Ranjeet Mehta, CEO and Secretary General, PHDCCI, in New Delhi, Delhi.
Equity Access: The partnership will increase awareness among MSMEs about equity financing, particularly through the BSE SME Platform, while helping eligible businesses understand and navigate the SME listing process.
Expert Support: The collaboration will provide MSMEs with expert guidance, mentorship, knowledge-sharing, and capacity-building initiatives to assess opportunities and requirements for raising capital through markets.

In August 2026, Hakainde Hichilema, leader of the United Party for National Development (UPND), was re-elected as the President of the Republic of Zambia for a second consecutive five-year term (2026–2031), following the general elections held on 13 August 2026.
Election Outcome:
Vote Share: Hakainde Hichilema secured 2,965,326 votes (approximately 61.4% vote share), defeating the main opposition challenger Brian Mundubile, who received 1,856,217 votes (approximately 38.4% vote share) out of nearly 5 million votes cast.
Majority: Under Zambia’s presidential election system, a candidate must secure more than 50% + 1 of valid votes to avoid a second-round run-off.
Shabnam Sinha Appointed as Chairperson Of Airtel Payments Bank

Three-Time National Award-Winning Bengali Filmmaker ‘Raja Sen’ Passed Away at 71
On 16 August 2026, veteran Bengali filmmaker Raja Sen, known for his work in feature films, television, and documentary filmmaking, passed away at the age of 71 in Kolkata, West Bengal (WB). He was born on 10 November 1955 in Kolkata, WB, India.
About Raja Sen:
Film Career: Raja Sen began his filmmaking journey with documentaries and later gained recognition with his feature film “Damu” (1996).
National Awards: He won three National Film Awards: Suchitra Mitra (1993) in Best Arts/Cultural Film, Damu in Best Children’s Film in 1997, and Atmiyo Swajan for Best Film on Family Welfare in 1999.
Notable Works: : His acclaimed films included Atmiyo Swajan, Desh, Debipaksha, Krishnakant er Will, Laboratory and Maya Mridanga. He also created documentaries on prominent cultural personalities.
Legacy: Raja Sen’s work preserved Bengali literature, culture and social themes through cinema, television and documentaries, leaving a lasting impact on Indian regional filmmaking.

Why August 19? On 19 August 2003, a suicide truck bombing targeted the United Nations headquarters at Canal Hotel, Baghdad, Iraq, killing 22 humanitarian workers, including Sérgio Vieira de Mello, UN Special Representative for Iraq.

In August 2026, Doddalahalli Kempegowda (DK) Shivakumar, Chief Minister (CM) of Karnataka, announced ‘Vidyarthi Sahayahasta’, a new education scheme, during the Independence Day celebrations organised at Manekshaw Parade Grounds in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
About Vidyarthi Sahayahasta:
Aim: The scheme is designed to provide better professional education to rural students of the state.
Eligibility Criteria: Also, the state government has clarified that only those students who have completed their education from Class I to Class X in rural government schools are eligible for the scheme.
Reservation for Students: Under the new scheme, the state government will provide 7.5% reservation within the existing 15% rural reservation to the eligible students for admission to professional programmes, including medical and engineering courses.
