Final DPRs Approved for PM MITRA Textile Parks at Rs. 5,567 Crore Across Three StatesOn 17 December 2025, the Ministry of Textiles (MoT), in collaboration with National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation Limited (NICDC), held a stakeholder consultation in New Delhi, Delhi, to engage prospective developers for Pradhan Mantri – Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Parks.

  • During the meeting, Rohit Kansal, Additional Secretary, MoT, announced that Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) worth Rs. 5,567 crore have been finalised for three greenfield textile parks in Uttar Pradesh (UP), Karnataka and Gujarat.

About PM MITRA Greenfield Textile Parks:
Three Greenfield Parks: The DPRs cover 3 Greenfield textile parks in

  • Lucknow, UP: A Greenfield PM MITRA Park spanning 1,000 acres in UP.
  • Kalaburagi, Karnataka: A Greenfield PM MITRA Park covering 1,000 acres in Karnataka.
  • Navsari, Gujarat: A Greenfield PM MITRA Park spread over 1,142 acres in Gujarat.

Purpose: To explore partnership opportunities with Master Developers for building integrated textile parks.
Development Model: Parks will be developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) using the Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) framework, with Master Developers playing a key role in planning, execution, and operation.
Investor Interest: Reported investor interest in the three parks exceeds Rs 20,054 crore, supported by plug-and-play infrastructure, integrated logistics, and clean power.

India and Netherlands Signs LoI to Enhance Defence Cooperation
In December 2025, India and the Netherlands signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) on Defence Cooperation in New Delhi, Delhi, aimed at strengthening and institutionalizing their bilateral defence partnership.

Titagarh Rail Systems Secured Rs 273 Crore RBMV Contract from IR
In December 2025, Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL), formerly known as Titagarh Wagons, secured a contract worth Rs 273.24 crore from the IMinistry of Railways(MoR) for the supply and maintenance of Rail Borne Maintenance Vehicles (RBMV).

  • This order marks TRSL’s entry into the high-value, technology-driven, and safety-critical safety and signalling systems segment.

Overview of PM Narendra Modi’s Visit to Oman from December 17 to 18, 2025Prime Minister(PM) Narendra Modi was on a 2-day official visit to Oman from December 17 to 18, 2025 as the final leg of his 3-nation tour that included Jordan and Ethiopia, at the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik Al Said, the Sultan and PM of Oman. This visit marked his second visit to Oman.

  • His visit coincided with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Highlights of PM Narendra Modi’s Visit to Oman:
Bilateral Meeting: PM Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik Al Said, Sultan of Oman,  at the Royal Palace (in Muscat), where he was accorded a ceremonial welcome.
India-Oman Business Forum: PM Narendra Modi attended the India-Oman Business Forum held in Muscat, Oman. He was accompanied by Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Ministry of Commerce & Industry (MoC&I); and Rajiv Memani, President of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

  • During the forum, the Oman Chamber of Commerce & Industry (OCCI) and the CII signed an MoU to boost economic collaboration between Indian and Omani businesses.

Conferred with Order of Oman: During the visit, PM Modi was conferred with the “Order of Oman”, the highest civilian honor of Oman, by Sultan Haitham bin Tarik during a special ceremony held in Muscat.

RBI Imposes Regulatory Restrictions on Two UCBs in Assam and GujaratIn December 2025, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed regulatory restrictions on two Urban Cooperative Banks (UCBs) : The Gauhati Cooperative Urban Bank Limited in Assam and The Valsad Mahila Nagrik Sahakari Bank Limited in Gujarat due to their weak financial position, liquidity stress, and unresolved supervisory concerns.

  • The restrictions were issued in the form of ‘Directions’ under the Banking Regulation(BR) Act, 1949, and will remain in force for six months, subject to review.
  • Eligible depositors can claim insurance up to Rs. 5 lakh, provided by the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC) under the DICGC Act, 1961.

Google Announces USD 8 Million Funding for India’s AI Research EcosystemIn December 2025, global tech giant Google announced a USD 8 million (approximately Rs 72.4 crore) funding commitment to support four Government of India (GoI)–backed Artificial Intelligence (AI) Centres of Excellence (CoEs), during the ‘Google’s Lab to Impact Dialogue’, organised as part of the India AI Impact Summit 2026, in New Delhi, Delhi.

  • During the event, Google also unveiled multiple research collaborations and healthcare-focused AI initiatives to further strengthen India’s AI ecosystem.

Key Details:
4 AI CoEs: As per the Google, USD 8 million research funding will be distributed among:

  • TANUH at Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru, for non-communicable disease treatment;
  • Airawat Research Foundation at Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur (IIT-K) will use the funds for AI-driven urban governance;
  • The AI CoE for Education at IIT-Madras (IIT-M) will create innovative solutions to enhance learning and teaching outcomes;
  • ANNAM.AI at IIT-Ropar will use the funds to develop data-driven solutions for agriculture and farmer welfare.

Other Key Announcements: Google has also Google announced USD 400,000 in funding to support MedGemma-based collaborations for developing Health Foundation Models and integrating AI into India’s Digital Public Infrastructure(DPI), particularly in the healthcare sector.

  • Google pledged to provide financial support of USD 50,000 each to startups i.e. Gnani.AI and CoRover.AI to develop Indic language voice and e-governance solutions using Gemma.
  • It has also announced a USD 2 million founding grant to set up the new Indic Language Technologies Research Hub at IIT-B.

Key Collaborations: Google has collaborated with the National Health Authority (NHA) for the deployment of advanced AI for the conversion of medical records into a globally acceptable, machine readable format i.e. Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standards.

  • ReNew Energy Global Plc (ReNew), a leading decarbonisation solutions company, signed a long-term agreement with Google to enable the development of a new 150 Mega-Watt(MW) solar project in Rajasthan.

Bloomberg World’s Richest Families Report 2025: The Walton Tops the List; Ambani Family Ranks 8thOn December 16, 2025, Bloomberg released its annual report titled “Bloomberg-World’s Richest Families 2025”, tracking the 25 wealthiest family fortunes globally and their aggregate wealth growth. As per the report, the Ambani family, remained 8th with an estimated net worth of about USD 105.6 billion, is the only Indian family featured in the list.

  • The Walton family, who owns 44% of Walmart, is ranked first with USD 513.4 billion in wealth, followed by the Al Nahyan family (USD 335.9 billion) (2nd rank), Al Saud, the Saudi Royal family (USD 213.6 billion) (3rd rank).

Highlights of Bloomberg-World’s Richest Families 2025:
Methodology: The threshold to enter the top 25 list increased by USD 9.7 billion to a net worth of USD 46.4 billion in 2025. It excludes first-generation fortunes, fortunes controlled by a single heir, and the families whose source of income is unclear.
Wealth Concentration: The top 25 richest families hold a combined fortune of approximately USD 2.9 trillion, up by USD 358.7 billion from 2024, with the top 5 families alone accounting for around USD 1.4 trillion.
Other Top 10 families: The Al Thani Family of Qatar ranks 4th with USD 199.5 billion, followed by France’s Hermes Family in 5th place with USD 184.5 billion.

  • The Koch Family (USA) (USD150.5 billion) secured 6th rank, The Mars Family (USA) (USD 143.4 billion) (7th rank), The Wertheimer Family (France) (USD 85.6 billion) (9th rank), and The Thomson Family (Canada) (USD 82.1 billion) (10th rank).

Sculptures & Drawing Artist Nnena Kalu Becomes First Learning-Disabled Artist to Win 2025 Turner PrizeIn December 2025, Nnena Kalu, a British contemporary artist known for her sculptures and drawings, became the first artist with a learning disability to receive the Turner Prize, one of the most contemporary art awards of the United Kingdom (UK), at a ceremony in Bradford, UK.

Renowned Indian Sculptor and Padma Awardee Ram Vanji Sutar Passed AwayOn 17th December 2025, renowned Indian sculptor and Padma awardee Ram Vanji Sutar, designer of the world’s tallest statue ‘the Statue of Unity’, passed away in Noida, Uttar Pradesh (UP), at the age of 100 years. He was born on 19th February 1925 in Dhule, Maharashtra.

  • He was honoured with the Padma Shri in 1999 in the field of Art and Padma Bhushan in 2016 in the field of Art.

Shivaji Statue: He created the equestrian statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at the Parliament complex (Delhi).
Ongoing Projects: He was involved in the design of the proposed Lord Ram statue in Ayodhya (UP) and contributed to the design of the upcoming Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue in Mumbai (Maharashtra).
Awards: He received the Tagore Award for Cultural Harmony in 2018 and the Maharashtra Bhushan Puraskar in 2025.

Minority Rights in the Indian Constitution:
Articles 29 and 30: Guarantee the preservation of culture and grant religious and linguistic minorities the right to establish and administer educational institutions, safeguarding them from undue state interference.
Articles 350A and 350B: Ensure primary education in the mother tongue for linguistic minorities and provide for a Special Officer for Linguistic Minorities to monitor safeguards
Article 347: Enables special provisions for languages spoken by sections of a state’s population.

Government of Chhattisgarh Presents Supplementary Budget Worth Rs.35,000 Crores for FY26On December 14, 2025, Government of Chhattisgarh presented and passed the Supplementary Budget worth Rs.35,000 Crores for the Fiscal Year 2025-26 (FY-26), marking the biggest supplementary budget in the history of Chhattisgarh, approved by the Chhattisgarh legislative assembly.

  • This budget was introduced by O.P. Choudhary, Finance Minister, Government of Chhattisgarh, in the Chhattisgarh legislative assembly during the winter session.

Highlights of the Budget:
Overview: The budget emphasizes capital expenditure to strengthen long-term economic growth, social security, housing, education, and connectivity.
Agriculture & Farmer Support: Rs.12, 424 crores allocated to Cooperative Marketing Federation Limited (MARKFED) to compensate for paddy procurement losses, helping ensure timely payments to farmers.
Infrastructure: Government of Chhattisgarh allocated funds for rural roads program and state roads expansion. It allocated Rs.86 crores to support the Chirmiri (Chhattisgarh) – Nagpur (Maharashtra) rail line project.
Industrial Development: Allocated Rs.360 crores for creating industrial areas, capital subsidies, and interest subsidies to attract investment and promote job creation.
Safety, Environment & Transport: Allocated approximately Rs.154 crores for Fire engines & safety equipment, approximately Rs.87 crores for Road safety measures such as Automatic Plate Number Recognition (APNR), test tracks, and Rs.35 crores for Electric Vehicle (EV) subsidies.
