MNRE Hosted 3rd International Conference on Green Hydrogen in New Delhi, DelhiThe Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) hosted the 3rd International Conference on Green Hydrogen (ICGH 2025) held from November 11 to November 12, 2025 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, Delhi.

• The two-day conference brought together policymakers, scientists, researchers, and industry leaders to  develop a roadmap for India’s green hydrogen transition.

About ICGH 2025:
Organised by: The conference was organised by MNRE and the Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor (PSA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Ministry of Science and Technology (MoS&T), and Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), MoS&T.
Key Launches and Announcements: While addressing the high-level session, Union Minister Jitendra Singh announced that the Government of India (GoI) will establish 4 hydrogen valleys with a total investment of Rs 485 crore across the country to demonstrate the complete hydrogen value chain i.e. from production and storage to transport and utilization.

• During the inaugural session of the conference, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, MNRE launched the official logo of the NGHM which was selected from over 2,500 entries nationwide, representing India’s commitment to sustainable and clean energy.
• The Union Minister also announced a Rs 100 crore call for proposals for pilot projects to develop innovative technologies for producing green hydrogen from biomass and waste materials.

MoD Signs Rs 2,095.70 cr deal with BDL to ProcureINVAR Anti-Tank Guided missilesIn November 2025, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed a contract worth Rs 2,095.70 crore (cr) with the state run Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) under the ‘Buy (Indian)’ category for the procurement of INVAR Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGMs).

• The contract was signed by senior officials of the MoD and representatives of BDL in the presence of Rajesh Kumar Singh, Secretary, Ministry of Defence(MoD) in New Delhi, Delhi.

About INVAR ATGMs:
Missile: The INVAR Anti-Tank Missile is a sophisticated laser-guided weapon system designed to enhance the firepower and destructive capability of the Indian Army(IA’s) T-90 main battle tanks.
Target Capability: The missile can destroy both stationary and moving targets travelling at speeds up to 70 kilometer per hour(kmph).
Range & Flight Time: It has an effective range of around 5 km, reaching maximum distance in roughly 17.6 seconds.
Launch & Accuracy:Fired through the tank’s gun barrel, the missile delivers high precision at extended ranges, engages varied targets, and remains effective across diverse battlefield conditions.
T-90: This is a main battle tank equipped with a 125 millimeter(mm) smoothbore gun, advanced fire-control systems, and reactive armour.

• The platform is designed for high mobility and survivability, making it central to India’s mechanised warfare strategy.

Buy (Indian) Category: Buy (Indian)’ category refers to the procurement of products from an Indian vendor meeting one of the two conditions:

• Products that have been indigenously designed, developed and manufactured with a minimum of 50% Indigenous Content (IC) on cost basis of the total contract value; Or
• Products, which may not have been designed and developed indigenously, having 60% IC on cost basis of the total contract value.

GoI Granted GI Tag  to Sikkim’s Lepcha Musical Instruments ‘Tungbuk’ and ‘Pumtong Pulit’In November 2025, the Government of India (GoI) granted Geographical Indication (GI) registration for Sikkim’s two traditional Lepcha musical instruments namely, ‘Tungbuk’ and ‘Pumtong Pulit’ under the “Musical Instrument” category of the Geographical Indication Registry (GIR).
Key Details:
Certificates Presented : The GI registration certificates were formally presented during the 1st Tribal Business Conclave held at Yashobhoomi, Dwarka, in New Delhi, Delhi.
Received by:  The GI registration certificates were received by Ugen Palzo Lepcha, the President of the Mutanchi Lom Aal Shezum (MLAS) and Namgyal Lepcha, cultural secretary of MLAS, who had submitted the GI tag applications for Sikkim Lepcha Tungbuk and Sikkim Lepcha Pumtong Palit respectively, at the event.
Support:  National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Gangtok(Sikkim) provided both financial and technical assistance, supporting the GI application process for nearly two years.

GOI Withdraws BIS Quality Control Orders for 14 petrochemical productsOn November 13, 2025, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers (MoC&F), Government of India (GOI), withdrew Quality Control Orders (QCOs) issued under Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), on 14 petrochemical products with immediate effect.

• Earlier, QCOs made BIS certification mandatory for several key raw materials, including chemicals, polymers, plastic resins, and fibres.

GSH India Signs MoU with IIIT Manipur for Skill Development in Energy Sector
In November 2025, GSH India Private Limited, the Indian arm of the United Kingdom, UK) based GSH Group, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Manipur to collaborate in facility management, Internet of Things (IoT), sustainability, and smart-building systems.

• The MoA was signed during the 5th GSH Sustainable Energy Forum 2025 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu(TN).

Key Details of MoU:
Aim: To create a skilled workforce ready to support sustainable energy projects, leveraging IIIT Manipur’s academic expertise and GSH India’s industry experience.
Training Collaboration: Under the MoU, IIIT Manipur will collaborate with GSH India to design and deliver specialized training programs for the energy sector.
Focus: The collaboration will emphasize joint research, internships, training, and skill development initiatives to bridge the industry–academia gap, share resources, co-develop projects, and foster innovation in sustainable, technology-driven facility management.
Mobile App: An all-in-one mobile application(app) developed by GSH India was also launched to streamline facility operations and track sustainability metrics.

Union Minister Rajnath Singh Unveils “My Stamp” dedicated to Rezang La War Memorial
In November 2025, Union Minister Rajnath Singh, Ministry of Defence(MoD) unveiled unveiled a special commemorative “My Stamp” honouring the valour of the 13th Battalion of the Kumaon Regiment, which fought under Major Shaitan Singh Bhati (Param Vir Chakra, PVC) during the 1962 India–China War at Rezang La, a mountain pass in Ladakh.

About “My Stamp”:
Issued by: The stamp, based on the Rezang La War Memorial in Ladakh, was issued by the Department of Posts (DoP), Ministry of Communication.
Launched by: The tribute was launched by the makers of ‘120 Bahadur’, a war film inspired by the events of Rezang La.
63rd Anniversary: The customized stamp, unveiled ahead of the 63rd anniversary on November 18, 2025.
Rezang La War Memorial: The Rezang La War Memorial, located in Chushul, Ladakh, continues to stand as a symbol of their valor and unwavering spirit.

C-DOT Signed Agreement with NAM InfoCom for Development of MCX Solution
In November 2025, the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), the telecom Research and Development (R&D) centre of the Government of India (GoI), signed an agreement with NAM InfoCom Private Limited for the joint development of a Mission Critical Communication System (MCX) solution under the C-DOT MCX Alliance.

About collaboration between C-DOT and NAM InfoCom:
Objective: Strengthens India’s indigenous mission-critical communication capabilities and expands the MCX ecosystem through collaborations with 10 organisations, mainly startups.
Standards: The MCX system is developed as per Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) standards to support Mission Critical Push-to-Talk (MCPTT), Mission Critical Data (MCData), and Mission Critical Video (MCVideo) services.
Network Connectivity: Provides secure, reliable, low-latency real-time audio/video communication over existing Fourth Generation (4G) and 5G networks.
Roles: C-DOT contributes telecom R&D and system design, while NAM InfoCom manages system integration, deployment, and customization.
Funding: The collaboration is fully funded under the C-DOT Collaborative Research Programme to promote indigenous technology development.
Future: The MCX solution will be useful for Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PPDR) communications and help disaster management agencies, Law and Order enforcement agencies for efficient operations.

INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS

Overview of PM Narendra Modi’s Visit to Bhutan from November 11 to 12, 2025Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi was on a two-day official visit to Bhutan from November 11 to 12, 2025, at the invitation of His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the King of Bhutan.

• The visit coincides with the 70th birthday celebrations of His Majesty Fourth Druk Gyalpo, King Jigme Singye Wangchuck.

Highlights of the Visit:
Inauguration of Hydroelectric Project: PM Narendra Modi and King Jigme Khesar jointly inaugurated the 1,020-Megawatt (MW) Punatsangchhu-II Hydroelectric Project, a run-of-the-river scheme on the Punatsangchhu River, at Thinleygang in Wangdue Phodrang district (Bhutan), marking the bilateral cooperation in hydropower between India and Bhutan.

• The project is built with Indian financial and technical assistance, encompassing 70% loan assistance and 30% grant, amounting to around Rs.7,290 crores.

Global Peace Prayer Festival: Attended the Global Peace Prayer Festival in Thimphu, reflecting the deep cultural and spiritual ties between India and Bhutan.
MoUs signed: 
Renewable Energy: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed to strengthen cooperation between India and Bhutan in Renewable E energy (RE). Under the MoU, India and Bhutan will work together in areas such as solar and wind power, biomass, energy storage, green hydrogen, and training people in these fields.
Healthcare: An MoU was signed to strengthen cooperation in the field of health and medicine, covers areas, including medicines and medical devices, maternal health, prevention and treatment of all major diseases, traditional medicine, digital health and telemedicine, and joint research and training of health professionals.
Capacity Building: An MoU was signed between PEMA Secretariat (Bhutan) and National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) India, tp help both Institutions work together to train mental health professionals and develop local mental health courses to improve services and support research.

• GELS 2025 will take place in Puri, Odisha, from December 5 to 7, 2025.

About Global Energy Leaders’ Summit (GELS) 2025:
Objective: To establish a national and global dialogue on energy transition, climate leadership, and technology-driven transformation.
Theme Pillars: The theme “Powering India: Sufficiency, Balance, Innovation,” aligns with the Prime Minister(PM’s) vision built on four pillars: Energy Access, Efficiency, Sustainability, and Security.
Organisers: The initiative is being organized by the Department of Energy, Government of Odisha, in partnership with the (TBI) and technical insights and expertise contributed by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh (UP).
Participants: The summit will bring together Union and State Energy Ministers, global energy leaders, policymakers, innovators, researchers, and industry titans.

India-Nepal Signs LoE to boost Rail Connectivity via Jogbani–Biratnagar Corridor
In November 2025, India and Nepal exchanged a Letter of Exchange (LoE) to amend the Protocol to the Treaty of Transit, marking a significant enhancement in rail-based trade connectivity between the two nations.

• The LoE was signed during a bilateral meeting between Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Ministry of Commerce and Industry(MoC&I) and Anil Kumar Sinha, Nepal’s Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, in New Delhi(Delhi).

India–Nepal Rail Connectivity:
Direct Rail Freight Access: The amended protocol enables direct rail connectivity between Jogbani (India) and Biratnagar (Nepal) for both containerized and bulk cargo, allowing seamless transport from the ports of West Bengal (WB) and Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh (AP) to the Nepal Customs Yard in Morang district near Biratnagar.
Corridors: The liberalization also extends to trade corridors such as Kolkata–Jogbani, Kolkata–Nautanwa (Sunauli) and Visakhapatnam–Nautanwa (Sunauli), thereby strengthening multimodal trade connectivity and boosting Nepal’s trade with third countries.
Focus: This move underscores India’s role as Nepal’s largest trade and investment partner and is part of a broader push to enhance cross-border infrastructure, including Integrated Check Posts(ICPs) and enhanced logistic systems.

AP’s Kunchala Kaivalya Reddy Selected for TSI’s Astronaut Training ProgrammeIn November 2025, 17-year-old Kunchala Kaivalya Reddy from Nidadavole, East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh (AP), was selected as an Astronaut Candidate (ASCAN) for the 2025–2029 Astronaut Training Programme of Titans Space Industries (TSI).

About 2025–2029 Astronaut Programme:
Selection Process: She is among the 150 candidates shortlisted from applicants representing 36 countries.
Training: The four-year astronaut training programme in Florida(the United States of America, USA) spans from 2025 to 2029, with the physical training component scheduled between 2026 and 2029.
Mentors: Guided by experts including National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) veteran William McArthur and Brazil’s first astronaut Marcos Pontes.
Training Phases:

• Phase 1 (2026–2027): Includes theoretical learning, zero-gravity flights, neutral-buoyancy drills, skydiving, and mountain expeditions.
• Phase 2 (2027–2029): Focuses on space station operations, lunar-surface simulations, and mission-readiness training.

Future Mission: After completing the training, she will qualify to take part in a space mission scheduled for 2029.

• The mission is planned to orbit Earth twice at an altitude of about 300 kilometer(km) and will last roughly five hours, including nearly three hours of zero gravity during which astronauts will conduct microgravity experiments.

Early Achievement: Became the youngest Indian to complete the International Air and Space Programme in 2023.
Discoveries: As a NASA citizen scientist, she discovered two provisional main-belt asteroids (2020 PS24 and 2021 CM37).

Padma Bhushan Awardee Vaidyeswaram Rajaraman, Pioneer of India’s Science and Computer Education Passed AwayIn November 2025, Professor Vaidyeswaran Rajaraman, widely regarded as the “Pitamaha” of Computer Science education in India, passed away at the age of 92 in Bengaluru, Karnataka. He was born on 8 September 1933 in Erode, Tamil Nadu(TN).

•  In 1998, Prof. Rajaraman was conferred with the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award, in the field of science and technology.

About Prof. Vaidyeswaran Rajaraman:
Academic Milestone: He joined the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur(Uttar Pradesh, UP), where in 1965, he was instrumental in establishing India’s first formal academic programme in Computer Science(CS).

• In 1987, he proposed the creation of the Master of Computer Applications (MCA) programme to bridge the IT(Information Technology) talent gap in India.
• Served as IBM (International Business Machines) Professor of Information Technology at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bengaluru(Karnataka), from 1994 to 2001.

Supercomputing Pioneer: From 1982 to 1994, he served as Chairman of the Supercomputer Education and Research Centre (SERC) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru where he spearheaded the development of indigenous supercomputing and parallel computing capabilities to support advanced research and national projects.
Legacy in Education: Rajaraman authored over 20 textbooks on computer science, which continue to be used in universities across India.

• Published 70+ papers and authored the acclaimed History of Computing in India (1955–2010).

e-Governance initiatives: As a member of Karnataka’s Technical Advisory Panel (1985–2014), he guided key digital initiatives like Bhoomi and Kaveri, shaping India’s early e-governance.
Awards & Honours: He received the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize (1976), which is one of India’s highest science awards, instituted in 1958 by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

• Alongside, he also received the Homi Bhabha Prize, and the Om Prakash Bhasin Award.
• He was an elected Fellow of multiple prestigious national academies, including the Indian National Science Academy (INSA), Indian Academy of Sciences (IASc), Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), and the Computer Society of India (CSI).

IMPORTANT DAYS

World Kindness Day 2025– November 13World Kindness Day (WKD) is observed every year across the globe on November 13 to promote kindness, compassion, and empathy toward people, animals, and the environment, showing how small acts can strengthen communities.

• 13th November 2025 marks the observance of 28th WKD.

Background:
Origin: The day was introduced by the World Kindness Movement (WKM) which is an international coalition of non-governmental organizations founded following a 1997 conference in Tokyo, Japan.
Embraced by:  Since then, WKD has been embraced by more than 30 countries, including India, Australia, Canada and Japan.
First Observance: The 1st WKD was observed on 13th November 1998.
World Kindness Movement (WKM):
Formation: WKM was formed at a conference in Tokyo on 20th September 1997.
Purpose: To encourage individuals to be more kind by connecting nations to build a kinder world.
Expansion: The WKM eventually expanded to 27 countries and in 2019, WKM was registered as an Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in Switzerland.

World Diabetes Day 2025 – November 14The United Nations (UN) commemorates World Diabetes Day (WDD) every year on 14 November to raise global awareness about the impact of diabetes, the importance of prevention, early diagnosis, effective treatment, and equitable access to care.

• 2025 Theme: “Diabetes across life stages”

Background:
Origin: WDD was established in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) to address the growing health threat posed by diabetes.
Observation: Since 1991, WDD has been observed globally on 14 November by the IDF.
UN Recognition: On 20 December 2006, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted resolution A/RES/61/225, designating 14 November as an official UN Day to be observed annually starting in 2007.
First UN WDD: The first UN-recognized World Diabetes Day was observed on 14 November 2007.
Logo: The blue circle, introduced by IDF in 2006 as the universal symbol of diabetes, represents global unity in fighting the disease and was incorporated into IDF’s hummingbird logo in 2023.
Significance of Date: 14 November marks the birth anniversary of Sir Frederick Grant Banting, the Canadian scientist who co-discovered insulin in 1922.

• He, along with John James Rickard Macleod, received the 1923 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for the discovery of insulin.

2025 Event in India:
Launch of ‘Cohort Connect 2025’: On 13 November 2025, Union Minister of State(MoS) (Independent Charge, IC), Dr. Jitendra Sing, Ministry of Science & Technology, MoS&T, launched the “Phenome National Conclave on Longitudinal Cohort Studies: Cohort Connect 2025” at Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (CSIR–IMMT), Bhubaneswar, Odisha on the eve of World Diabetes Day (WDD) (14 November).
