Overview of India Maritime Week 2025 Held from October 27 to 31, 2025, in Mumbai, Maharashtra – Part IIThe India Maritime Week (IMW) 2025, organized by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW), was held from October 27 to 31, 2025, at the NESCO Exhibition Centre in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
MoUs signed:
Overview: During the event, over 600 Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) worth more than Rs.12 lakh crores were signed to boost the maritime sector in India.
Coverage: The areas such as Port development and modernization, accounting for 30% of total investment, sustainability and green initiatives (20%), shipping and shipbuilding (20%), port-led industrialization (20%), and trade and business partnerships (10%).
VoCPA: During the event, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VoCPA) signed MoUs worth more than Rs.1.27 lakh crores. It includes:
JIPL: An MoU worth Rs.47,000 crores, was signed between VoCPA and Jindal India Power Limited (JIPL) to establish a Green Ammonia Plant and storage facility in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu (TN).
GIREFPL: VoCPA signed a MoU with Green Infra Renewable Energy Farms Private Limited (GIREFPL), a subsidiary of Sembcorp, worth Rs.25,400 crores, for the creation of a common storage facility for Green Ammonia and Green Hydrogen.
Dredging Corporation of India (DCI): The Dredging Corporation of India Limited (DCI), Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh, AP) signed 22 MoUs worth Rs.17,645 crores with 16 national and international organizations.

Overview of Bharat International Rice Conference 2025 held in New DelhiThe Bharat International Rice Conference (BIRC 2025), the world’s largest platform dedicated to the rice industry, was held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, Delhi from October 30 to October 31, 2025.

  • The two-day conference was chaired by Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Ministry of Commerce & Industry(MoC&I), Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution(MoCAF&PD), brought together stakeholders from over 80 countries, including exporters, importers, policymakers, and technology leaders, to discuss the future of India’s rice trade and agri-innovation.

Highlights of BIRC 2025:
India’s first AI-based rice sorting system: The event featured a dedicated ‘AgriTech Pavilion’ showcasing India’s first Artificial Intelligence(AI)-based rice sorting technology, launched live during the inaugural session, marking a major step toward next-generation agricultural precision.
MoUs Signed:On Day 1, Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth over Rs.3,000 crore were signed and on Day 2, MoUs worth Rs 30,435 crore, which highlights the growing global confidence in India’s rice sector.

  • During the event, a contract was signed to set up an Agricultural Research Centre in New Delhi focused on sustainable and climate-resilient rice production, seed innovation, and post-harvest research.

Felicitation: During BIRC 2025, several farmers from across India were honoured by global buyers for their outstanding contributions to quality, innovation, and sustainability in rice cultivation.
Launch of Bharat Organics’ Organic Rice Range: Under the aegis of the National Cooperative Organics Limited (NCOL), Bharat Organics launched its Organic Rice Range and Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) platform at BIRC 2025.

MoPR Launches First-of-Its-Kind ‘Model Youth Gram Sabha’ Initiative in New DelhiIn October 2025, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR), in collaboration with the Department of School Education & Literacy (DoSE&L) under the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Minister of Tribal Affairs (MoTA), launched the Model Youth Gram Sabha (MYGS) initiative in New Delhi, Delhi.

  • During the launch, the MYGS Portal and a Teacher Training Module were unveiled to support the initiative’s nationwide implementation.
  • The event was graced by Union Minister of State(Mos) Prof. S. P. Singh Baghel, MoPR and Union MoS Durgadas Uikey, MoTA along with Vivek Bharadwaj, Secretary of MoPR; Sanjay Kumar, Secretary of DoSE&L), and others.

About Model Youth Gram Sabha (MYGS):
Alignment: The MYGS, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the vision of Viksit Bharat.
Implementation: The MYGS will be rolled out in a phased manner across more than 1,000 schools nationwide, including Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs), Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs), and State Government Schools.
Funding: An amount of Rs. 20,000 per school will be provided to each participating school as a one-time financial assistance for conducting each mock.

  • The fund can be utilised for arrangement of Sabha, logistics support and refreshment.

EPFO Celebrates 73rd Foundation Day; Launches Employee Enrollment Scheme 2025, Revamped Website & PDUNASS HonouredOn November 1, 2025, Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO), Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoL&E), celebrated its 73rd Foundation Day at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, Delhi.

  • The event was graced by Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, MoL&E.

Key Launches and Initiatives:
Employee Enrollment Scheme 2025:On the occasion of EPFO Foundation Day 2025, Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya launched the Employee Enrollment Scheme 2025, designed to encourage employers to voluntarily declare and enrol eligible employees under the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF).

  • The scheme, operational from 1st November 2025, exempts employers from paying the employee’s share of contributions if it was not deducted earlier and imposes only a nominal penalty of Rs.100 per establishment.

EPFO Website :He also unveiled the revamped EPFO homepage with a new user-friendly domain www.epfo.gov.in featuring improved interface, intuitive navigation, and simplified access to essential services and information for members, employers, and pensioners.
Publications and Commemorations: During the ceremony, he released a Coffee Table Book, State Profile 2025, and Reimagining Governance, documenting EPFO’s transformation, reforms, and achievements.

  • A Special Postal Cover was also launched to mark the occasion.

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia Inaugurated Sohra Tourism Circuit Project Under PM-DevINE SchemeIn November 2025, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) and Ministry of Communications (MoC) along with Meghalaya Chief Minister (CM) Conrad K. Sangma, laid the foundation stone for the Integrated Development of the Sohra (Cherrapunji) Tourism Circuit in Sohra, Meghalaya.

  • The project, funded under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East Region (PM-DevINE) scheme, aims to transform Sohra into a model for sustainable and community-led tourism in the Northeast.

About the Sohra Tourism Circuit Project:
Objective: To transform Sohra (Cherrapunji) into a multi-day experiential tourism destination by strengthening infrastructure, boosting local livelihoods, and preserving cultural and ecological heritage.
Total Investment: The project entails a total investment of over Rs. 650 crore, including Rs. 221 crore contributed by the MDoNER.
Key Project Components:

  • Sohra Experience Centre at Kutmadan: Developed with an investment of Rs. Rs. 115 crore, the centre features an amphitheatre, rain experience park, art gallery, and craft pavilion showcasing Meghalaya’s rich tribal heritage.
  • Nohkalikai Falls Precinct Development: The project focuses on enhancing visitor facilities and enriching the overall tourist experience, with an estimated investment of Rs. 26 crore.
  • Mawsmai Eco Park Development: The project is aimed at promoting sustainable tourism and fostering environmental awareness, with an estimated investment of Rs. 29 crore.
  • Other Attractions: The project encompasses the development of Seven Sisters Falls Viewpoint, Shella Riverside, and Wahkaliar Canyon, along with the introduction of adventure tourism activities such as hot-air balloon rides.

About Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East Region (PM-DevINE) Scheme:
Overview: The PM-DevINE Scheme is a Central Sector Scheme (CSS) launched in the Union Budget 2022–23 by the Government of India (GoI) in 2022 to fund infrastructure and social development projects in the North Eastern Region (NER) of India.
Implementing Agency: It is implemented through the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER).
Coverage: All eight North Eastern States — Arunachal Pradesh (AP), Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura.

Indian Army hosts Young Leader Forum “Veer Yuva”

ISRO Signs MoU with BCCL, CMPDI to map Coal Fires in Jharia Coalfield
In October 2025, Indian Space Research Organization(ISRO) entered into a tripartite agreement with Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) and Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited(CMPDI) to carry out a detailed study on surface coal fires and related land subsidence in the Jharia Coalfield, Jharkhand, to be implemented during Financial Year(FY) 2025–27.

Implementation: Ground-validation of the satellite derived maps will be carried out jointly with BCCL to support implementation of the Jharia Master Plan by the Ministry of Coal for management of the coal-fire hazard.
Representation: This initiative represents a significant step in combining advanced remote-sensing tools, artificial-intelligence (AI) based analysis and on-ground validation to tackle a longstanding environmental and safety challenge in India’s coal sector.

RBI Launches 3 Key Surveys for Monetary Policy InputsIn October 2025, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced the launch of its November 2025 rounds of 3 key surveys which include: Inflation Expectations Survey of Households (IESH), Rural Consumer Confidence Survey (RCCS) and Urban Consumer Confidence Survey (UCCS).

  • These surveys provide critical information which helps in formulating the monetary policy.

  • This survey is tasked to collect current perceptions and one-year-ahead expectations of households on the general economic situation, employment scenario, price trends, income and spending from households living in rural and semi-urban areas across 31 States/ Union Territories (UTs).

UCCS: It is a bi-monthly survey capturing the sentiments of urban households on the economy, employment, income, spending and prices.

  • The survey gauges short-term shifts in consumer sentiment by collecting qualitative responses on the general economic situations, employment scenario, price trends, income and spending patterns from urban households across 19 cities.

Gogabeel Lake in Bihar Designated as India’s 94th Ramsar SiteIn October 2025, Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) announced that Gogabeel Lake in Katihar district of Bihar has been officially designated as Ramsar Convention Sites of International Importance, bringing the total number of internationally recognised Ramsar sites in India to 94.

  • With this addition, Bihar now has six Ramsar Sites, ranking third in India after Tamil Nadu(TN) (20 sites) and Uttar Pradesh(UP) (10 sites).

Ramsar Sites in India:
Total Area: India now hosts 94 Ramsar sites, covering a total area of 13,60,805 hectares.
Global Dominance:With the latest additions, India holds the highest number of Ramsar Sites in South Asia and ranks first in Asia, while globally, it stands third, after the United Kingdom(UK) (176 sites) and Mexico (144 sites).
1st Ramsar Sites in India: In 1981, Chilka Lake (Odisha) and Keoladeo National Park (NP) (Rajasthan) were recognised as the1st Ramsar sites in India.
Recently Added Ramsar Sites: Before Gogabeel Lake, Gokul Jalashay (448 ha) in Buxar district and Udaipur Jheel (319 ha) in West Champaran district were designated as India’s 92nd and 93rd Ramsar Sites, respectively.

Sunil Kant Munjal Conferred France’s Chevalier de l’Ordre national du Mérite
In October 2025, Sunil Kant Munjal, Chairman of Hero Enterprise and Founder of the Serendipity Arts Foundation, was conferred the Chevalier de l’Ordre national du Mérite (Knight of the National Order of Merit), one of France’s highest civilian honours, by the Ambassador of French to India H.E. ISRO Launched India’s Heaviest Military Communication Satellite ‘CMS-03’ from Sriharikota, APIn November 2025, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully launched India’s heaviest military communication satellite named ‘CMS-03’ or also known as GSAT-7R, which weighs 4,410 kilogram (kg), aboard its indigenously made Launch Vehicle Mark-3 (LVM3-M5) rocket, also dubbed as ‘Bahubali’ from the Second Launch Pad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC)in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh (AP).

  • LVM3-M5 rocket, previously known as Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV Mk-III), has successfully deployed the country’s heaviest communication satellite into the designated Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO).
  • This marked the 5th operational flight of LVM3 launcher, previously used for ‘Chandrayaan-3 mission’, where in, India became the world’s 1st country to land successfully near the lunar South Pole.

CMS-03 or GSAT-7R: It is a multi-band communication satellite that will enhance communication services across the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) for the Indian Navy (IN).

  • It features various indigenous state-of-the-art components developed specifically to meet the IN’s operational requirements.
  • GSAT-7 will replace GSAT-7 (Rukmini), which was launched in 2013 on Ariane-5 rocket.
  • This newly launched communication satellite is designed to provide services for at least 15 years.
