PM Narendra Modi Visited UP & MP and Inaugurated Projects Worth Over Rs 3,880 Cr in VaranasiIn April 2025, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi visited Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Madhya Pradesh (MP), laying the foundation stone and inaugurating projects worth over Rs 3,880 crore in Varanasi, UP, focused on infrastructure, electricity, education, healthcare, and sports to boost connectivity, and social welfare.

  • In MP, PM Narendra Modi made a spiritual visit to Anandpur Dham, Ashoknagar district, to perform pooja at the Guru Ji Maharaj Temple in Isagarh, participated in a public program at Anandpur Dham, and addressed a public gathering.

Key Points:
i.The PM inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for various road projects in Varanasi, including:

  • A road bridge between Varanasi Ring Road and Sarnath
  • Flyovers at Bhikharipur and Manduadih crossings
  • A highway underpass tunnel on National Highway 31 (NH-31) near Varanasi International Airport is worth over Rs 980 crore.

ii.The PM inaugurated two 400-kilovolt (kv) and one 220-kv transmission substations and associated transmission lines of the Jaunpur, Chandauli, and Ghazipur districts of the Varanasi division worth over Rs 1,045 crore.
iii.He laid the foundation stone of a 220-kv transmission substation at Chaukaghat, Varanasi, and a 132-kv transmission substation in Ghazipur, and augmentation of the Varanasi city electricity distribution system worth over Rs 775 crore.

NITI Aayog launches a Report on “Automotive Industry: Powering India’s Participation in GVCs”In April 2025, the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog) released a comprehensive report titled “Automotive Industry: Powering India’s Participation in Global Value Chains”. This report is the second in the series of Global Value Chains (GVCs). It was launched by Suman Bery, Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog.

  • The report explores the transformative potential of India’s automotive component industry, outlining a strategic roadmap to elevate India’s presence in the global automotive ecosystem.

Key Points:
i.India has emerged as the fourth-largest automobile producer globally, following China, the United States of America (USA), and Japan, with an annual production of nearly 6 million automobile units.
ii.The Indian Auto industry produced over 28 million vehicles, including Passenger Vehicles, Commercial Vehicles, three-wheelers, two-wheelers, and Quadricycles from April 2023 to March 2024.
iii.India’s automotive industry contributes 7.1% to its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 49% to manufacturing GDP.
iv.India’s share in the global automotive component trade is around 3% (~USD 20 billion).

  • India’s trade ratio in auto components is near neutral (~0.99), with exports and imports nearly balancing each other.

Note: This report predicts a bold future where India’s automotive component production reaches USD 145 billion by 2030, with automotive component exports tripling to USD 60 billion (from USD 20 billion).

MoI&B, Govt of Maharashtra & MFSCDCL Join Hands to Set Up India’s First AVGC-XR Institute in Mumbai
In April 2025, the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MoI&B) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Maharashtra, the Maharashtra Film, Stage & Cultural Development Corporation Limited (MFSCDCL), headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra to develop India’s first of its kind institute focused on Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR).

  • The Institute will be named as Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT), and it will be set up at the Dadasaheb Phalke Film City in Goregaon, Mumbai, developed through a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
  • The agreement was signed in the presence of Chief Minister (CM) of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, MoI&B by Chief Secretary of Maharashtra Sujata Saunik and Secretary of MoI&B Sanjay Jaju.

Key Points:
i.The institute will be established as a not-for-profit Section 8 company under the Companies Act, 2013,  with the Government of India (GoI) holding 34% equity and Government of Maharashtra holding 14% equity through MFSCDCL.

  • The remaining 52% equity will be equally shared between New Delhi (Delhi)- based  the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI)  and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) also based in New Delhi.

ii.The GoI has provided an initial grant of Rs 391.15 crore for infrastructure development and initial operations. Additionally, MFSCDCL has allocated a 10-acre plot at Film City for a 30-year lease to support the project.
iii.IICT will begin functioning from a temporary campus at the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) Limited premises in Mumbai. The institute aims to become a national hub for the creative economy.
iv.The institute will serve as a centre of excellence (CoE) for training, education, innovation, and research in the AVGC-XR sector. It will also form a Governing Council and sector-specific councils to ensure industry relevance, promote global partnerships, and support skill development and employment in creative sectors.

MoE Announces 9.5% Hike in Material Cost Under PM POSHAN Scheme, Effective from May 1, 2025In April 2025, the Ministry of Education (MoE)  announced a 9.5% hike in the material cost under the centrally sponsored Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman (PM POSHAN) scheme, earlier known as the Midday Meal Scheme.

  • The revision comes in light of inflation trends, based on the Consumer Price Index for Rural Labourers (CPI-RL), which is compiled by the Chandigarh  based Labour Bureau under the Ministry of Labour & Employment (MoL&E).
  • An overall budget of Rs 12,500 crore has been allocated for the PM POSHAN scheme in the Financial Year 2025–26 (FY26), and to implement the revised cooking cost, the Union Government will bear an additional Rs 954 crore.

Key Revisions:
I.The material cost per student under the PM POSHAN scheme has been revised with effect from May 1, 2025, as follows:
i.For Kindergarten and Primary classes (Grades 1 to 5): increased from Rs 6.19 to Rs 6.78 per student per day.
ii.For Upper Primary classes (Grades 6 to 8): increased from Rs 9.29 to Rs 10.17 per student per day.

Overview of President Droupadi Murmu Visit to Portugal & Slovakia From April 7 to 10, 2025Droupadi Murmu, the President of India, made a four-day state visit to Portugal and Slovakia from April 7 to 10, 2025, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations with both nations.
I.President Droupadi Murmu first visited Portugal from 7- 8 April 2025 at the invitation of Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the President of Portugal.

  • The visit to Portugal aims to strengthen the dynamic and multifaceted partnership between India and Portugal, commemorating 50 years of diplomatic ties.

i.She met with the Portuguese delegation, attended a meeting with the Cabinet of the President of Assembleia Da Republica to discuss bilateral and global issues, and signed the Book of Honour.
ii.She was honoured with the ‘City Key of Honour’ of Lisbon City by Mr. Carlos Moedas, the Mayor of Lisbon, making her an honorary citizen of Lisbon, Portugal.
iii.The Presidents of India and Portugal launched postage stamps celebrating 50 years of diplomatic ties between the 2 nations.
II.Following the visit to Portugal ,President Droupadi Murmu visited Slovakia from April 9-10, 2025 at the invitation of Peter Pellegrini, the President of Slovakia. The visit to Slovakia reflects India’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations with the Slovak Republic.
i.She was presented a copy of the first-ever Slovak translation of ancient Indian texts, the Upanishads, by the Slovak President.
ii.The Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, Slovakia, awarded an Honoris Causa Doctorate (Honorary Doctorate, Dr. h. c.) to Droupadi Murmu.
iii.During the Visit, India and Slovakia signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to enhance cooperation in key areas of mutual interest.

India, Tanzania co-hosted 1st edition of Multilateral Maritime Exercise ‘AIKEYME’ in TanzaniaThe inaugural edition of the multilateral exercise named ‘Africa India Key Maritime Engagement (AIKEYME 2025)’ which means ‘Unity’ in Sanskrit, a 1st of-its-kind initiative co-hosted by India and Tanzania, commenced in Tanzania on April 13, 2025 and will continue till April 18, 2025.

  • The harbour phase of the exercise was jointly inaugurated by Union Minister of State (MoS) Sanjay Seth, Ministry of Defence (MoD), India and Minister of Defence and National Service of Tanzania Dr. Stergomena Lawrence onboard Indian Naval Ship (INS) Chennai at Dar-es-salam, Tanzania.
  • This initiative is in alignment with Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi’s vision of promoting Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions (MAHASAGAR).

i.Participating countries: The 6-day multilateral exercise saw participation from various African countries such as: Comoros, Djibouti, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles and South Africa (SA).
ii.Participating Units from India: INS Chennai (destroyer) and INS Kesari (Large) reached at Dar-es-Salaam to participate in the exercise.

  • Also, INS Sunayna, renamed Indian Ocean Ship (IOS) SAGAR and sailed out from Karwar naval base on April 05, 2025 will participate in the exercise.

IRDAI Imposed Rs 1.06 Crore Penalty on Flipkart for Violations of Insurance e-com, Corporate Agent Norms
In April 2025, Hyderabad (Telangana) based Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 1.06 crore on e-commerce platform Bengaluru (Karnataka) based Flipkart Internet Private Limited (FILP) for violating e-commerce rules in a matter related to online insurance distribution.

  • FIPL has been directed by the IRDAI to remit Rs 1.06 crore penalty within 45 days and has an option to make an appeal before the Securities Appellate Tribunal (SAT).

Key Violations:
i.As per IRDAI, Rs 1 crore is fined for violation of the Insurance E-commerce Guidelines, 2017 clause which defines that an insurance intermediary can enroll only insurers to the extent allowed on its Insurance Self-Network Platform (ISNP).

  • FIPL was found to be redirecting consumers towards the ‘Buy Insurance’ section of another insurance intermediary instead to the insurer’s site.

ii.While, Rs 6 lakh is imposed on FIPL for continuing with sale and purchase of insurance policies through its website even after its Certificate of Registration (CoR) expired on September 25, 2024.

  • Thus, IRDA imposed this fine in direct violation of Clause 3(ii) (a) of Schedule III read with Regulation 26 of IRDAI (Registrations of Corporate Agents) Regulations, 2015.

ECONOMY & BUSINESS

Moody’s Analytics Lowered India’s GDP Growth Forecast to 6.1% for CY25In April 2025, New York (the United States of America, USA) based Moody’s Analytics, a subsidiary of Moody’s Corporation released its latest report titled ‘APAC Outlook: US Versus Them’. The report has revised down India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth forecast by 30 basis points (bps), to 6.1% for Calendar Year 2025 (CY25), from its previous estimate of 6.4% (in March 2025).

  • The report cited potential risks to certain sectors like gems and jewellery, textiles and medical devices due to the new tariffs imposed by the USA.
  • However, the report highlighted that overall Indian economy growth will remain insulated from the shock since external demand accounts a relatively small share of its GDP.

Key Points:
i.The report noted that the USA is one of India’s largest trading partners, has imposed a 26% tariff over imports of Indian goods that will significantly slow down the trade balance.
Note: In April 2025, Donald Trump, President of the USA announced the imposition of stiff reciprocal tariffs on 60 countries including India, effective from April 09, 2025.

  • Later, the Trump administration announced a 90-day freeze on the implementation of high tariffs, except for China.

ii.Moody’s Analytics has estimated that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is expected to lower interest rates due to ease given in headline inflation,  that will lower the policy rate  by 25 bps i.e. to 5.75% by the end of CY25.
iii.The report has also lowered its growth projection for many Asia-Pacific countries like: New Zealand, China, Indonesia, South Korea, the Philippines, among others.

  • Also, the decline in India’s GDP growth projection is less compared with other countries like: China, Vietnam, and Taiwan, which are highly dependent on exports.

Note: In April 2025, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in its 1st bi-monthly Monetary Policy of Financial Year 2025-26 (FY26) has lowered India’s GDP growth forecast from 6.7% to 6.5% for FY26

UP Police Portal Received SKOCH Award in ‘Police Safety’ Category
In April 2025, the “Investigation, Prosecution and Conviction Portal” of Uttar Pradesh (UP) Police won the SKOCH Award at national level in the ‘Police & Safety’ category. The portal was developed by the technical services unit of UP Police.

  • Prashant Kumar, Director General of Police (DGP) of UP received the SKOCH Award Certificate from Naveen Arora, Additional Director General (ADG) (technical services) in New Delhi(Delhi).

Key Points:
i.The portal plays a crucial role in identifying serious and sensitive crimes such as mafia-related offenses, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO), rape and other heinous cases.
ii.It enables the real-time monitoring of investigations, ensures the timely filing of chargesheets, and provides quick  and effective monitoring of court trials.
iii.So far, around 85,000 convictions have been achieved through this portal and over 40,000 pending cases over the last 5 years have been successfully resolved.

DRDO Carries Out Trials of Indigenous LRGB ‘Gaurav’ with Su-30 MKI AircraftNew Delhi (Delhi)- based Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully carried out release trials of the Long-Range Glide Bomb (LRGB) named ‘Gaurav’ from April 8 to 10, 2025. These trials were conducted using the Su-30 MKI fighter aircraft.

  • The weapon system was developed in India by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) laboratories—Research Centre Imarat (RCI) in Hyderabad, Telangana; Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) in Pune, Maharashtra; and Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, Odisha.
  • It was built in collaboration with industry partners including Adani Defence Systems & Technologies Limited in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Bharat Forge Limited (BFL) in Pune, and several MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises).

Key Points:
i.The bomb was tested by attaching it to different positions on the aircraft with different types of warheads. The target was a land-based location on an island, and the bomb accurately hit the target from a distance of around 100 kilometre (km).
ii.Assistance for quality assurance and certification is provided by the Centre for Military Airworthiness & Certification (CEMILAC) based in Bengaluru, Karnataka, and the Directorate General of Aeronautical Quality Assurance (DGAQA), a regulatory body under the Department of Defence Production (DDP), Ministry of Defence (MoD), situated in New Delhi.
About Long-Range Glide Bomb (LRGB) ‘Gaurav’:
Gaurav is a long-range glide bomb in the 1,000 Kilogram (kg) class and has a wingspan of 3.4 meters (m).This bomb is part of a new generation of smart, precision-guided weapons. Its range is between 30 km and 150 km.

  • It uses advanced guidance systems like Global Positioning System (GPS), inertial navigation, and in some cases, laser or infrared sensors for targeting moving or well-protected threats.
  • The bomb can carry either fragmentation warheads for soft targets or penetration-blast warheads for hardened structures like bunkers.

ISSF World Cup 2025: India Bags 8 Medals, Finishes Second Behind ChinaIn April, 2025, India finished its First leg of International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup 2025 campaign in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with a total of eight medals—4 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze—finishing second overall, while China topped the standings with 11 medals, including 5 gold, 3 silver, and 3 bronze. The event took place from April 1 to April 11, 2025.

  • The United States of America (USA) secured third place with a total of 6 medals, including 2 gold, 3 silver, and 1 bronze.

Key Points:
i.Saurabh Chaudhary and Suruchi Singh (18-year old) won the bronze medal match by defeating Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker, and Ravinder Singh.
ii.In the men’s 10m air pistol event, Rudrankksh Patil scored 252.9 points, defeating Hungary’s Istvan Marton Peni.
iii.In the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol event, Vijayveer Sidhu (29 points) made a milestone by becoming the first Indian to win gold in this event at any ISSF World Cup.

Legendary Kathak Dancer & Padma Awardee Kumudini Lakhia Passed AwayIn April 2025, renowned Kathak dancer and Padma Awardee Kumudini Lakhia passed away at the age of 95 at her residence in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. She was born on May 17, 1930 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

  • In January 2025, she was conferred with Padma Vibhushan, India’s 2nd highest civilian honor by the Government of India (GoI) in ‘Arts’ category in recognition of her lifelong dedication to Kathak.

About Kumudini Lakhia:
i.She started her career in dancing with Ram Gopal and toured globally, bringing Indian classical dance forms to international audiences.

  • Some of her most notable choregraphic works are Dhabkar (Pulse), Yugal (The Duet), and Atah Kim (Where Now?), among others.
  • In 1980, she presented Atah Kim at the Kathak Mahotsav in Delhi.

ii.She had established Kadamb: Centre for Dance and Music, in Ahmedabad (Gujarat) in 1964. She developed the technique, vocabulary and repertoire of Kathak dance at the centre.
v.She mentored various accalaimed Kathak dancer, including Aditi Mangal Das, Vaishali Trivedi, Sandhya Desai, Dakhsha Seth, Maulik Shah, among many others.
vi.She also served Vice President of the Council International De La Dance, Paris, France; Executive Board Member of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, Delhi; Chairperson of the Gujarat State Sangeet Natak  Akademi and etc.
Awards and Honors:
i.In 1987, Kumudini Lakhia was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s 4th highest civilian honour in the field of ‘Arts’; and later she was honoured with Padma Bhushan, India’s 3rd highest civilian honour in 2010.
ii.She was bestowed with Sangeet Natak Akademi Award by New Delhi (Delhi)-based Sangeet Natak Akademi in 1982.
iii.She was honoured with Kalidas Samman, presented by the state government of Madhya Pradesh (MP) in 2002-03 in the category of ‘classical dance’.
iv.The state government of Kerala awarded her Guru Gopinath Desiya Natya Puraskaram, 2021 in year 2022 for her excellence in dance.

Padma Shri Awardee and Tree Man of India, Daripalli Ramaiah, Passes Away at 87In April 2025, Renowned environmentalist Daripalli Ramaiah, popularly called “Vanajeevi Ramaiah,” and “Chettu Ramaiah” passed away at the age of 87. He was known as the “Tree Man of India” for his lifelong efforts in planting and protecting trees.
About Vanajeevi Ramaiah:
Born in 1937, Daripalli Ramaiah belonged to Reddipalli village in Khammam Rural mandal, Telangana. Ramaiah, a potter by profession, began his tree plantation efforts as an individual and made his life’s mission to green the earth.

  • Throughout his lifetime, he is believed to have planted more than one crore (10 million) trees in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh (AP), making him one of India’s most dedicated environmentalists.
  • He was often seen wearing a wooden board that had a Sanskrit line written on it “Vriksho Rakshati Rakshitah,” which means “If you protect trees, they will protect you.”

Awards and Recognition:
i.In recognition of his work, he was awarded the Padma Shri in the field of Social work in 2017. He also received several other honours, such as the Vanaseva Award in 1995 and the Vanamitra Award in 2005.
ii.He was even awarded an honorary doctorate by the USA (United States of America)- based Academy of Universal Global Peace for his outstanding role in promoting environmental care.
iii In 2015, his innovative approach to greening dry lands were recognised with the National Innovations and Outstanding Traditional Knowledge Award.
Note: The Government of Telangana included a chapter about him in the 6th-grade social studies textbook. His story was also added to the 9th-grade Telugu syllabus in Maharashtra for Telugu-speaking students.

International Day of Human Space Flight- April 12, 2025The United Nations (UN’s) International Day of Human Space Flight is annually observed across the world on April 12 to celebrate the beginning of the space era for mankind and highlights the pivotal role of space science and technology in promoting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
i.On April 07 2011, New York (the United States of America, USA)-based UN General Assembly (UNGA) adopted the resolution A/RES/65/271 and declared April 12 to be observed annually as International Day of Human Space Flight.

  • The 1st ever International Day of Human Space Flight was observed on April 12, 2011.

ii.In order to celebrate the 1st International Day of Human Space Flight, New York (USA)-based UN Postal Administration (UNPA) issued a series of special commemorative stamps at each of its offices in New York (USA), Geneva (Switzerland), and Vienna (Austria), including a stamp featuring image of Yuri Gagarin.
iii.Vienna (Austria)-based UN Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) is the UN office entrusted with the responsibility of promoting international cooperation in the peaceful uses of outer space.

International Day for Street Children – April 12, 2025The International Day for Street Children (IDSC) is annually observed across the world on April 12 to raise awareness about the challenges faced by millions of children living on the streets globally. The observance of IDSC is led by London (the United Kingdom, UK)-based Consortium for Street Children (CSC).

  • Each year the CSC decides on theme for IDSC to promote the needs of street children globally.
  • Theme of IDSC 2025 is ‘Participation’.

i.The 1st ever IDSC was observed on April 12, 2011, launched by CSC, a global network of organisations working to promote and protect the rights of street-connect children.
ii.The day 12th April marks the anniversary of the 1st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Children in 1955.

Siachen Day – April 13 2025Every year Siachen Day is observed by the Indian Army (IA) on April 13 to commemorate Operation Meghdoot. On this day, Indian troops successfully landed at Bilafond La Pass and captured key positions on the Siachen Glacier, gaining a strategic advantage in the disputed Kashmir region, home to the world’s highest battlefield.

  • The day is observed on April 13 to commemorate the courage and undavering determination of the IA in the world’s longest active military operation.
  • 13th April 2025 marks the 41st year of IA’s presence at Siachen Glacier.

About Operation Meghdoot:
i.Operation Meghdoot was a military campaign launched by the Indian Army on April 13, 1984, to secure the Siachen Glacier. It is the longest military operation in the world till date.
ii.The Army was deployed in the steep and snowy mountains of Siachen in response to intelligence reports indicating that Pakistan was preparing to launch military operations in the region.
iii.Both the IA and Indian Air Force (IAF) played pivotal roles in the operation.

  • The operation involved the IAF airlifting Army troops and deploying them onto the icy peaks of the glacier.

iv.The operation was launched under the leadership of Lieutenant General Manohar Lal Chibber, Lieutenant General P.N. Hoon, and Major General Shiv Sharma.
About Siachen Glacier:
i.Situated at an altitude of approximately 20,000 feet in the Karakoram mountain range, the Siachen Glacier is recognized as the highest militarized zone in the world.
ii.Its strategic location allows it to dominate the Shaksgam Valley (ceded to China by Pakistan in 1963) to the north, control the routes from Gilgit-Baltistan to Leh in the west, and oversee the ancient Karakoram Pass to the east.
iii.To the west, it borders almost the entire Gilgit-Baltistan, which remains an Indian territory illegally occupied by Pakistan since 1948.
Note: Each soldier posted in the region serves for about three months, vigilantly monitoring enemy movements while enduring extreme hardships and harsh weather conditions.

106th Anniversary of Jallianwala Bagh Massacre – April 13 202513th April 2025 marks the 106th anniversary of the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre, also known as the Amritsar Massacre, which took place on 13th April 1919 in Amritsar, Punjab, then part of British India (now in Punjab, India).

  • Several leaders along with Prime Minister(PM) Narendra Modi paid homage to the victims of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, calling it a “dark chapter” in India’s history and a “major turning point” in the country’s freedom struggle.

About the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre:
i.On April 13, 1919, hundreds of unarmed civilians, including women and children, had gathered at Amritsar’s Jallianwala Bagh to celebrate the annual Baisakhi fair.
ii.Then acting Brigadier-General Reginald Dyer ordered his troops to open fire on the large crowd, which had assembled peacefully to protest against the Rowlatt Act, a repressive law that granted sweeping powers to the colonial administration.
iii.The troops continued firing until they nearly exhausted their ammunition and were finally ordered to cease fire.

  • While the official British report claimed that 379 people were killed in the incident, other estimates suggest that the actual death toll may have been in the thousands.

Rowlatt Act:
i.In 1919, the British colonial government enacted the Rowlatt Act, formally known as the Anarchical and Revolutionary Crimes Act, based on the recommendations of the Sedition Committee led by Justice Rowlatt. The Act aimed to curb the growing nationalist movement in India.
ii.This highly controversial law granted the government sweeping powers, including the authority to arrest and detain Indian citizens without trial for up to two years.
About Hunter Commission:
i.In 1919, the British government appointed the Hunter Commission, officially known as the Disorders Inquiry Committee, to investigate the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
ii.The commission was chaired by Lord William Hunter, a former Solicitor-General of Scotland.
iii.The interactions between General Reginald Dyer and the commission during the inquiry were later chronicled in Nigel Collett’s 2006 book, “The Butcher of Amritsar: General Reginald Dyer”.
Note: In 1920, a trust was established to create a memorial at the site of the massacre.The memorial, designed by American architect Benjamin Polk, was eventually constructed and inaugurated on 13 April 1961 by the President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, in the presence of PM Jawaharlal Nehru.
