Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Valour Day, also known as Shaurya Diwas is annually observed across India on 9th April to commemorate the valour of CRPF personnel during the 1965 war against the Pakistan army.
The day aims to honour the personnel of CRPF and to pay tribute to the personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.
- 9th April 2023 marks the observance of the 58th CRPF Valour Day.
History of Valour Day:
i.On 9th April 1965, the contingent of the 2nd Battalion of CRPF fought against the Pakistani brigade on Sardar Post in the Rann of Kutch, Gujarat and eliminated 34 Pakistani soldiers and captured 4 alive.
ii.During this conflict, 6 personnel of CRPF attained martyrdom.
iii.As a tribute to the valour of the brave men of the CRPF, 9th April of every year is celebrated as “Valour Day” in CRPF.
Events:
i.On the occasion of the 58th CRPF Valour Day, Director General of CRPF Sujoy Lal Thaosen paid tribute to the fallen heroes and martyrs during the event organised at the Shaurya Officers Institute, Vasantkunj, New Delhi, Delhi.
ii.He also presented the 27 Gallantry medals to the CRPF officers who showcased courage and valour in the fights against the enemies of the nation.
iii.He also felicitated Kishan Singh, the surviving veteran of Sardar Post Battle.
History of CRPF:
i.CRPF, one of the oldest Central para military forces, was constituted as the Crown Representative Police on 27th July 1939.
ii.After Independence(1947), the force was renamed as Central Reserve Police Force by an Act of Parliament on December 28, 1949. The act constituted CRPF as an armed force of India.
