On September 24, 2020 Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh virtually launched the phase-II of Rs 11,000 crore Urban Environment Improvement Programme (UEIP), from Bachat Bhawan, Ludhiana in Punjab. The project envisages development of the state’s infrastructure and efficient service delivery systems to the urban population.
- The state has spent Rs 3,000 crore in the first phase of UEIP scheme.
Key Projects under UEIP-II:
–There will be Canal-based water supply in the four big cities of Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Patiala. The work for the same has been launched at Jalandhar and the foundation stone for Patiala was also laid.
–The state government will spend Rs 650-crore for cleaning of ‘Budha Nullah’ in Ludhiana.
–Water supply and sewerage works are already in progress, at a total cost of Rs 4,000 crore, in many towns of Punjab.
–A one-time settlement (OTS) scheme was also announced for pending VAT (value added tax) assessments to promote economic activity in urban areas.

i.On September 3, 2020, Punjab State Minister for Department of Forest & WildLife & Preservation Sadhu Singh Dharmsot launched ‘I Rakhwali’ application. The app was launched to safeguard the forest areas in the state by making common citizens as stakeholders in the process.It will help citizens to become ‘Greenery Saviours’.
ii.In order to increase the groundwater table in parched land of 20 taluks, the state cabinet of Karnataka approved Rs 600 cr project titled Rejuvenating Watersheds for Agriculture Resilience through Innovative Development (REWARD) with World Bank (WB) assistance.
