ICC (International Cricket Council) Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 , the 7th ICC Women’s T20 World Cup tournament was held in Australia from February 21- March 8, 2020.
The final match, which was played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on International Women’s Day (8 March), Australia women’s cricket team defeated the Indian women’s cricket team by 85 runs and won the title for the 5th time.Indian players: Harmanpreet Kaur(Captain), Shafali Verma, Smriti Mandhana, Taniya Bhatia(wicket-keeper batswoman), Jemimah Rodrigues, Veda Krishnamurthy, Deepti Sharma, Shikha Pandey, Radha Yadav, Poonam Yadav, Rajeshwari Gayakwad.
Australian players: Meg Lanning(Captain), Alyssa Healy(wicket-keeper batswoman), Beth Mooney, Jess Jonassen, Ashleigh Gardner, Rachael Haynes, Nicola Carey, Sophie Molineux, Georgia Wareham, Delissa Kimmince, Megan Schutt.
i.The Australian team reached the final for the sixth time. At the same time, the Indian team reached the final for the first time and their dream of winning the first title was shattered.
ii.Australia won the toss and batting first scored 184 for 4 and then piled on India for 99 runs with five balls to spare.

Australia’s Alyssa Healy became the fastest half-century cricketer in any ICC final across formats (both men and women).
i.She scored a half-century off just 30 balls against India in the final of the Women’s T20 World Cup. Earlier this record was held in the name of Hardik Himanshu Pandya of India. He made a half-century off 32 balls against Pakistan in the 2017 Champions Trophy final.
ii.Alyssa scored a total of 75 off 39 balls.
ICC launches 12-month long campaign called “100% Cricket” to promote women’s cricket
On March 8, 2020,The International Cricket Council (ICC) has launched a 12-month campaign called “100% Cricket” with the aim to promote women’s cricket by focusing on showcasing the skills, athletic brilliance, passion and intensity of the players.
i.The campaign, launched on International Women’s Day, will create a lot of excitement for ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2021,which is scheduled to be held in New Zealand between 6 February and 7 March 2021.
16-year-old Indian opener Shafali emerged as find of the tournament
The 16-year-old Indian opener Shafali Verma emerged as the find of the tournament and she became India’s trump card against the most successful cricket team in the world in the final. She was dismissed after scoring just 2 runs. She broke down after the defeat and had to be consoled by Harmanpreet Kaur and Harleen Deol.
i.She also created history by becoming the youngest player to play World Cup final & finished the tournament as the 5th highest scorer with 163 runs from 6 matches.
ii.Earlier on March 4, 2020, Shafali has created history by becoming world’s No.1 batsman in International Cricket Council (ICC) T20I (Twenty-twenty International) rankings 2020 for Women players, at the age of 16.
She climbed 19 places to reach the top with 761 points.
Poonam Yadav only Indian to feature in Women’s T20 WC team of the tournament
Poonam Yadav is the only Indian player to feature in the Women’s T20 World Cup team of the tournament.Poonam Yadav picked up ten wickets in the tournament, including a four-wicket haul in the opening match of the tournament against hosts Australia.five players from Australia’s victorious ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 squad have been named in the team of the tournament.
ICC women’s T20I Rankings 2020: Shafali slipped from top spot to 3rd
According to the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20I (Twenty-twenty International) rankings 2020 for Women players,released on March 9, 2020, the 16-year-old Indian opener Shafali Verma has lost the top spot in batting rankings & slipped to third place with 744 points.
i.Bethany Louise Mooney of Australia topped the rankings for the first time in her career with 762 points.She scored 259 runs in six innings at an average of 64, which was also the highest run by a player at a stage in the tournament, earning her the ‘Player of the Tournament’.
