On 16th December, 2020 India’s Women wrestler Anshu Malik won the Silver medal in the 57 Kg category at the Individual World Cup 2020 held at Belgrade, Serbia organized by United World Wrestling(UWW). She won the first and only medal winner in the event where Indian side was represented by 24 wrestlers.
Highlights of the event:
i.In the Gold medal fight, Anshu Malik lost to reigning European champion Anastasia Nichita of Moldova.
ii.19-year-old Anshu Malik won her first medal at international level in her 3rd event.
iii.Tokyo 2020 Olympics qualified Indian Wrestlers- Ravi Kumar, Deepak Punia, Narisingh Yadav, Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat.

i.The 2020 Asian Wrestling Championships, organized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and United World Wrestling (UWW), an international governing body for the sport of amateur wrestling, was held at the KD Jadhav Indoor Stadium in Indira Gandhi Arena, New Delhi, where India finished 3rd rank with 20 medals (5 Gold, 6 Silver, 9 Bronze).
ii.The Indian wrestling team has clinched 7 medals (4 gold, 2 silver, and a bronze) in the 1st UWW (United World Wrestling) Matteo Pellicone Rome Ranking Series 2020 held from January 15 – 18, 2020 in the Italian Capital, Rome.

The Individual World Cup came as a replacement to the 2020 World Championship which was cancelled due to less participants because of the pandemic.
