World Metrology DayWorld Metrology Day (WMD) is annually observed across the globe on 20th May to celebrate the International system of Unit. The day marks the annual celebration of the signing of Metre Convention on 20 May 1875 in Paris, France by 17 nations.

  • The theme for World Metrology Day 2021 is “Measurement for Health”.
  • The theme aims to create awareness about the important role of measurement in health and wellbeing of everyone.

Aim:

To create awareness about the role of metrology and its advancement in the respective fields.

About the Metre Convention:

i.The objective of the Metre Convention: worldwide uniformity of measurement.

ii.The Metre convection is the framework for the global collaboration in the science of measurement and the industrial commercial and societal application of measurement.

WMD poster:

The WMD 2021 poster was designed by Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organisation(SASO) under the auspices of GULFMET, is a Regional Metrology Organization (RMO).

Metrology:

i.Metrology is defined as the science of measurement, embracing both experimental and theoretical determinations at any level of uncertainty in any field of science and technology.

ii.It also refers to the quality assurance methods used to calibrate the machinery used during production and to measure the resulting parts.
