World Immunization Week is a global public health campaign to raise awareness and increase rates of immunization against vaccine-preventable diseases around the world.

Theme for the year 2020: Vaccines Work for All.World Immunization Week 2020Key Points:

i.The World Immunization week celebrates “Vaccine Heroes” worldwide ranging from parents and community members to health workers and innovators who help to ensure that we are protected via the power of vaccines.

ii.The last week of April (24 to 30) every year is observed as World Immunisation Week in order to promote the use of vaccines for the ‘protection of people’ of all age-groups against disease.

iii.Immunization week was observed for the very first time in 2012, with the participation of 180 countries and territories worldwide.WHO (World Health Organization) has designated 2020 the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife, WHO highlights the nurses and midwives for their crucial role as early vaccine champions for new parents and parents-to-be.

iv.The WHO notified that there are still 20 million un-vaccinated and under-vaccinated children worldwide.So,this initiative promotes the immunization process in an increased manner.

v.2020 campaign objective: The main goal of the campaign is to urge greater engagement around immunization globally and the importance of vaccination in improving health and well being of everyone, everywhere throughout life.
