World Homeopathy Day

World Homeopathy or Homoeopathy Day (WHD) is annually observed across the globe on 10th April to celebrate the contribution of homoeopathy to the world of medicine and the day also provides the platform to understand the history of homoeopathy.Ā 

  • The day also marks the birth anniversary of German physician Dr Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann, the founding father of Homeopathy, a branch of medicine.Ā 
  • 10th April 2022 marks the 267th birth anniversary ofĀ  Dr Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann.Ā 

Scientific Convention on the WHD 2022:

On 9th April 2022, Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH), inaugurated a two-day scientific convention, from 9th to 10th April 2022, in New Delhi, Delhi.Ā 

  • The theme of the Scientific Convention on WHD 2022 is ā€œHomoeopathy: Peopleā€™s Choice for Wellnessā€.

The convection was organised by the 3 apex bodies under the Ministry of Ayush: Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy, the National Commission for Homoeopathy and the National Institute of Homoeopathy.

Homoeopathy medicine:

i.The word ā€˜Homoeopathyā€™ is derived from two Greek words, ā€˜Homoisā€™ meaning similar and ā€˜pathosā€™ meaning suffering.

ii.Homeopathy is a medical system based on the belief that the body can cure itself.Ā 

iii.India recognised Homoeopathy as a medical system under the Homeopathy Central Council Act 1973.

About Dr Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann:

i.Dr Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann, a renowned scientist, great scholar, and linguist, was born in Paris, France, on 10th April 1755.

ii.Hahnemann translated the Lectures of William Cullen, also called the Scottish Hippocrates, on the Materia Medica into German in 1790.

iii.Cullen had explained why Cinchona bark was useful in intermittent fever. The medicine to treat malaria.Ā 

iv.Hahnemann asserts the theory that “likes are cured by likes,” or “similia similibus curantur.” This means that diseases are cured or should be treated by drugs that produce symptoms similar to those diseases in healthy people.
