The World Heritage Day was celebrated on 18th April 2015. It is celebrated to show people the importance of cultural heritage and its preservation. It is celebrated globally every year and it was first started in 18th April 1982 by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) which is located in Tunisia.
The World Heritage Day was approved by UNESCO in 1983. This year’s Heritage day, also marks the 50th Anniversary of ICOMOS. A lot of Programs and Events have been organized around the world in many places, based on the World Heritage Day celebrations.
In New Delhi, The Indian Heritage body, Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) and the Delhi Metro together conducted various quiz, events and an early morning ‘Heritage Walk’ was also organized to spread awareness about the city’s cultural heritage and architectural legacy. Delhi has three world heritage sites – Red Fort, Humayun’s Tomb and Qutub Minar. The World Heritage Day was celebrated in various other parts of the Country too.
