International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the lending arm of World Bank Group, had sanctioned a fund of Rs 1,860 crore to Andhra Pradesh for supporting the implementation of the ‘Supporting Andhra’s Learning Transformation’ (SALT) programme.
- Objective: To transform the state’s government schools into a vibrant and competitive one by improving their quality of teaching practices, learning outcomes, and school management in basic education.
- It is a 5-year project, will be implemented from the academic year 2021-22 to 2026-27.
Initiatives of SALT Programme:
i.Other important initiatives under the programme include Curriculum reforms, improved classroom practices, professional development of teachers.
ii.It also aims to prepare students to be globally competitive by including English as a medium of instruction in State-run educational institutions.
iii.Mana Badi Nadu-Nedu, an initiative that is intended to improve the infrastructure facilities of the state’s Government schools are also implemented under the SALT programme.
iv.Along with the infrastructure development, the standards of education will also be improved under the programme by taking up faculty development programmes.
Note – Mana Badi Nadu-Nedu programme, which is aimed to strengthen the infrastructure is being implemented by the state in a phased manner for 3 years, from 2019-20.
