World Art Day - April 15 2022

World Art Day, an International Celebration of Art created by the International Association of Art (IAA/AIAP) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), is celebrated to promote the development, diffusion, and enjoyment of art on April 15 annually.

Why April 15?

The city of Los Angeles has declared April 15, the birthday of Leonardo da Vinci, as World Art Day in Los Angeles.

  • The date was chosen to honour Leonardo da Vinci, who is recognised as a champion of freedom of expression, tolerance and brotherhood.

World Art Day 2022:

In April 2022, the US chapter of the International Association of Art decided to host a month-long exhibition of five downtown Los Angeles artists at Gloria Delson Contemporary Arts (GDCA), Los Angeles, United States.

About World Art Day:

It is a worldwide art event organised by the International Association of Art (IAA) to honour the work of all artists and to recognise the significant relevance of art in inspiring and enhancing the lives of all people.

  • World Art Day was recognized for the first time in 2012, when the IAA proposed adopting 15 April as World Art Day.
  • The decision came during its 17th General Assembly in Guadalajara, a city in western Mexico.

The day was proclaimed at the 40th session of UNESCO’s General Conference in 2019.
