On May 11, 2020, The Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru (Karnataka) has won the SKYTRAX Award 2020 for Best Regional Airport in India and Central Asia. It ranks 68th in World’s Top 100 Airports 2020 list, which was topped by Singapore Changi Airport.

Key Points:
i.This was 3rd time the KIA got this honor in last 4 years after it was adjudged the best airport in India in 2011 and the second best airport in India in 2012. While Changi Airport is voted the World’s Best Airport for the eighth consecutive year.
Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru also ranked 8th in the “Best Airports 2020: 30 to 40 million passengers” category.
ii.The awards voted for by over 100 customers in a 6-month global airport customer satisfaction survey conducted for 500 airports from September 2019 to February 2020.
iii.The award ceremony was originally scheduled to take place on April 01, 2020, at the Passenger Terminal Expo in Paris, France which was postponed due to the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. After then the award announcements were made on May 10, 2020, through a virtual event held live on YouTube.
iv.The survey analyzed the customer experience across airport service and merchandise key performance indicators from check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security and immigration through to departure at the gate.
