9th June of Every year is celebrated as the World Accreditation Day(WAD), an initiative established by the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation(ILAC) and International Accreditation Forum(IAF) to promote the value of accreditation.
The Theme of World Accreditation Day 2020 is “Accreditation: Improving food safety” to focus on strengthening the confidence of consumers, suppliers, purchasers, regulators and specifiers in the quality and food safety.
Importance of Accreditation in Food Safety:
i.The Accreditation in food safety ensures the competent and impartial inspection, certification and testing in the local, national and international food chain.
ii.Through the accreditation bodies and the accredited certificate bodies, inspection bodies and laboratories the conformity assessment will support in delivering safe food.
QCI celebrates WAD 2020:
i.The National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NABCB) and National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) the accreditation board of Quality Council of India(QCI) organised a Webinar on the WAD with two technical sessions.
- Regulator’s perspective on food safety chaired by Dr. D.K. Aswal, Director NPL and chairman NABL
- Industry’s perspective on food safety chaired by Shyam Bang, Chairman of NABCB
ii.More than 700 participants attended the webinar.
iii.R.P Singh, Secretary General of QCI, mentioned the importance to encourage the Private Public Partnership(PPP) model of FSSAI to work towards shared investments, development and trust.

i.Due the COVID-19 pandemic the physical events are cancelled and the celebration are made online with #WAD2020.
