The Women’s Entrepreneurship Day (WED) is annually observed globally on 19th November every year to celebrate, empower and support the Women Entrepreneurs in business across the world. The first day was held on November 19, 2014, and was observed in 144 countries that year.
- The inaugural event was held in New York City at the United Nations
- The day is organized by the Women’s Entrepreneurship Day Organisation (WEDO) or #ChooseWomenÂ
- Nasdaq, Google For StartUps, MIT Innovation Labs, WEGate – European Commission and the Girls Scouts have all joined as partners with WEDO to celebrate the day.
Aim:
i.To recognise and support women in business, who continue to be underrepresented as founders.
ii.To bring awareness and empowerment to the 4 billion women worldwide, thereby favouring to achieve the 6 – United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Key Highlights:
i.#ChooseWOMEN Initiative inspires women and men to pledge their support to women in business, politics, finance, art, etc.
ii.The gender gap in labor force participation is around 14 percent in the median OECD country, 26 percent in the median middle-income country, and 13 percent in the median low-income country.
iii.It is estimated that closing the gender gap in the workforce would add 28 trillion USD to the global GDP.
Virtual Summit 2021
As a part of WED celebration, WEDO is hosting a virtual startup pitch event with a $10,000 prize pool and an investor judging panel in Australia.Â
