Denesh Ramdin, Lendl Simmons Announce Retirement From International Cricket

On 18th July 2022 West Indies cricketers Denesh Ramdin, wicketkeeper and former West Indies captain and Lendl Simmons, an opener announced their retirement from international cricket with immediate effect.

About Lendl Simmons:

i.He is a right-hand batter from Trinidad and made his debut for the West Indies in 2006 in a One Day International (ODI) against Pakistan.

  • Until now, He has played 68 ODI’s and 68 Twenty20(T20) international matches and was also a part of the West Indies T20 World Cup in 2012 and 2016.
  • He has played 144 matches and scored 3,763 runs from all formats.
  • The T20 World Cup in October 2021 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was his last appearance for the team.

ii.After his retirement, he will continue to play franchise cricket and has already represented franchises like Mumbai Indians, Brisbane Heat, and Karachi Kings across global T20 leagues.

iii.Scores – Lendl Simmons, a 37-year-old cricketer, has averaged 31.58 in the 50-over format, and 26.78 in T20Is.

  • He has played for Trinbago Knight Riders, Guyana Amazon Warriors, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, St Lucia Kings and Jamaica Tallawahs.
  • He has also been the leading run-scorer for the Caribbean premier league with 2,629 runs.

About Denesh Ramdin:

i.The wicket-keeper and batter made his debut in test cricket against Sri Lanka in Colombo in 2005.

  • He has played 74 Tests, 139 ODIs and 71 T20Is.
  • He played his last match for West Indies in T20I in December 2019 and will continue to play franchise cricket after retirement.

ii.Denesh Ramdin led West Indies in 17 matches (13 Tests, 3 T20Is and 1 ODIs) and was named as West Indies test captain in 2014.

  • He has also been a part of the West Indies T20 World cup in 2012 and 2016.
