The 2nd phase of SAMVAD was launched by the Union Minister of Women and Child Development (WCD) Smriti Zubin Irani in Bengaluru,Karnataka on the successful completion of one year of SAMVAD programme.
- SAMVAD stands for Support, Advocacy & Mental Health intervention for children in Vulnerable circumstances and Distress.
Objective
It aims to ensure holistic development and psychosocial well being of children and adolescents.
Highlights
- The WCD is funding this initiative.
- National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) is the implementing agency.
- It is a National level initiative and Integrated Resource working for providing protection, support for mental health, psychosocial care for children.
Participation
For the first time, the Panchayati Raj Institutions(PRI) are also being included to enhance the support for these vulnerable sections in aspirational districts at ground level.
- Around 1 lakh stakeholders including child protection officials, educators, tele consultants and lawyers are being under this initiative.
About SAMVAD
SAMVAD is a new initiative, that is related to the mental health and giving psychosocial support and care of children in difficult life situations providing special training in School based curriculum on childhood trauma, interventions for children in conflict with the law, forensics in child and adolescent psychiatry and mental health, education and psychological support on children with special needs, integration of child protection and mental health into the Panchayati Raj systems.
About the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS)
The NIMHANS is the apex centre of mental health and neuroscience education. It operates autonomously under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
