Senior diplomat Vikas Swarup has been appointed as Spokesperson in the External Affairs Ministry. Swarup was a 1986 IFS-batch officer currently holding the charge of Joint Secretary (United Nations- Political) in the External Affairs Ministry. Swarup will succeed Syed Akbaruddin, who has been promoted as Additional Secretary in the External Affairs Ministry.
It should be noted that Vikas Swarup is the author of world-wide acclaimed novel “Q & A” which was made into “Slumdog Millionaire”. The novel “Q & A” has been translated into 43 languages. Swarup is expected to take over the position from April 18th, after PM Modi Ji returns from his nine-day trip to Europe and Canada beginning April 9th.
