The Vigilance Awareness Week(VAW) is annually observed across India during the week which marks the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (31st October).
- The annual observance of the week, led by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), aims to promote integrity, transparency and ethical practices. The week also highlights the key role of vigilance in preventing corruption.
CVC decided to observe the VAW 2024 from 28th October to 3rd November 2024.
- VAW 2023 was observed from 30th October to 5th November 2023 and VAW 2022 was observed from 31st October to 6th November 2022.
Theme:
The theme of Vigilance Awareness Week(VAW) 2024 is “Culture of Integrity for Nation’s Prosperity”.
2024 Observance:
The observance of the VAW began on 28th October 2024, with the taking of the integrity pledge by public servants in the Ministries, Departments, Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs), Public Sector Banks(PSBs)and other government organisations.
2024 Campaign:
i.The CVC has been running a 3-month campaign associated with the Vigilance Awareness Week from 16th August 2024 to 15th November 2024.
ii.The campaign was undertaken focused on 5 different areas – Capacity building programs; Identification and implementation of systemic improvement measures; Up-dation of Circulars/Guidelines/manuals, Disposal of complaints received before 30th June 2024; and Dynamic Digital Presence.
Note: India is the 93 least corrupt nation out of 180 countries, according to the 2023 Corruption Perceptions Index reported by Transparency International.
