Vice admiral Atul Kumar Jain takes over as Chief of staff, Eastern Naval Command

Vice Admiral Atul Kumar Jain took over as Chief of staff, Eastern Naval Command from Vice Admiral Bimal Verma.

About Atul Kumar Jain

• Atul Kumar Jain is an alumnus of the Sainik School (Rewa), National Defence Academy (Pune), the Defence Services Staff College (Wellington, Ooty), the College of Naval Warfare (Mumbai) and the National Defence College (Pretoria, South Africa)
• He was commissioned in Navy in 1982 and post specialization in Gunnery Missile and Warfare
• He was the Gunnery officer of missile destroyers, IN ships Ranvijay and Ranvir

Various positions

• His appointments include command of missile corvettes Nirghat, Khukri, missile destroyer INS Rajput and indigenously built stealth destroyer INS Mysore
• He was also the commissioning Executive Officer of INS Brahmaputra and the Fleet Operations Officer of the Eastern Fleet at Visakhapatnam
• His ashore assignments include Director Naval Intelligence (Protocol), Director Foreign Liaison and Principal Director Staff Requirement at Integrated Headquarters,Ministry of Defence (Navy)
• He was also the Commander-in-Chief, Andaman & Nicobar Command at Port Blair

Other prestigious positions

• He was promoted to the Flag officer position on October 3,2011and was appointed as the first Flag Officer Commanding Karnataka Naval Area, Karwar
• He has also served the Southern Naval Command as the Chief staff officer
• He was promoted as Vice Admiral on April 1,2015
• Currently he serves as the Controller Personnel Services at Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Navy)
