On 3rd May 2020, Veteran Poet and Kannada writer Padma Shri Kokkare Hosahalli Sheikh Haider Nissar Ahmed popularly known as K S Nissar Ahmed passed away in his residence at Bangalore at the age 84 due to various old age-related problems. He was born on 5th February 1936 in Devanahalli, Mysuru. He was the 73rd president of Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in the year 2007 held at Shivamogga.Key points:
i.He did his masters in geology and worked as an assistant geologist in the Mysore Mines and Geology at Gulbarga.
ii.He served as a lecturer at the Central College, Bengaluru and later in Chitradurga in the department of geology.
iii.For the terms from 1967 to 1972 and 1975 to 1978, he taught in Sahyadri First Grade College in Shivamogga.
iv.Nityotsava, Manasu Gandhi Bazaru, SanjeAidara Male and Manadondige Mathukathe are his notable works. He has translated many Shakespeare plays into Kannada.
v.In 1970 his poems of Nityotsava were the first to be set to tune by Mysuru Anantaswamy and were released as an audio cassette and named “NityotsavaKavi”.
His famous works include, several tremendously popular songs and poems such as ‘Jogada Siri Belakinalli’ and ‘Kurigalu Saar Kurigalu’. Some of his other best-known works include Nityotsava, Anaamika Anglaru, Sanje Aidara Male, Manasu Gandhi, and Bazaru.
Awards:
i.He received Rajyotsava in 1981, Padma Shri in 2008 and Pampa Award in 2017.
ii.He was awarded Doctorate in 2010 from the Kuvempu University.
