President Pranab Mukherjee presented the National Awards for Senior Citizens “Vayoshreshtha Samman 2015” at Plenary Hall, Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on the occasion of International Day for older persons on 1st October 2015. He honoured 11 people in seven categories for their contribution in helping the elderly people.

- Government will unveil national policy for senior citizens by next year for the welfare of elderly people across the country with the participation of the public.
- The new policy for the elderly will replace the existing policy which was formed in 1999.
ABOUT VAYOSHRESHTHA SAMMAN
- Vayoshreshtha Samman is honouring senior citizens and institutions since 2003 but it has been given the National Award status in 2013
- The award is organised by Ministry of social justice and empowerment to honour our eminent senior citizens and institutions that render their exemplary services for the cause of elderly people.
