On 8th March 2021, Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan(SSA), unit of Uttarakhand, education mission of the government of Uttarakhand signed an MoU with IBM India to introduce IBM ‘STEM for Girls’ program in around 130 secondary and Higher Secondary schools across 5 districts (Dehradun, Pauri, Haridwar, Almora and Udham Singh Nagar) of the state.
STEM is an acronym of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
Features of MoU:
i.The collaboration is a part of the 3 year program between IBM and government of Uttarakhand with American India Foundation as implementation partner to increase the participation of women in STEM fields.
ii.Under this MoU, The IBM STEM for Girls Program will focus on enhancing the skills and careers of around 25600 students in STEM fields.
ii.The program features the comprehensive approach to build the technical capabilities and life and self actualization skills.
STEM for Girls:
i.STEM for Girls program is a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative of IBM launched in India in 2019.
ii.Jasbir Kaur leads the STEM for Girls initiative for IBM.
iii.The STEM for Girls is also active in Canada, Taiwan and South Korea.
Aim:
To improve the education-to-work and career pathways for girl students of Government school.
