UP Signs Agreement with Israel for Water Resource Management in Bundelkhand

UP,-Israel-ink-deal-for-water-management-in-parched-Bundelkhand-regionOn 20th August 2020, The government of Uttar Pradesh (UP) signed an agreement with the Israel’s Water Resource Minister for the water resource management in Bundelkhand region in Uttar Pradesh.

  • Ron Malka, Israel’s Ambassador to India and Alok Sinha, Agriculture Production Commissioner of Uttar Pradesh signed the ‘plan of cooperation’ on behalf of Israel and India respectively.
  • The ‘plan of cooperation’ is initially signed for 2 years, with the interest of the project, this will be extended in the future.
  • The project was developed by the MASHAV — Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Features:

i.This cooperation will mitigate water scarcity issues of Bundelkhand, which suffer portable water shortage in summer 

ii.This cooperation will also support the agricultural irrigation in the Bundelkhand region.

iii.This cooperation will help with the Indo-Israel Bundelkhand water project undertaken in this region for long term reforms in water management.

Indo-Israel Bundelkhand water project:

i.This project will solve the water problem of Bundelkhand and its adjacent areas.

ii.This will also benefit the local people and farmers in this region.

iii.Water management will be achieved through better agriculture facilities, drip irrigation, etc.

iv.For the execution of this project the Pahuj dam reservoir in Jhansi will be used for the integrated drip irrigation along with the service of the experts of Israel.

Key Points:

i.Around 25 villages in the Babina Block of Jhansi are selected in the first phase of the project.

ii.Around 28 districts across India which includes 2 in Uttar Pradesh are selected for this project.
