On June 12, 2020 Uttar Pradesh(UP) Chief Minister(CM) Yogi Adityanath launched ‘Bal Shramik Vidya Yojana’ for child labourers who are 8-18 years old, through video conference. The launch is in line with the ‘World Day Against Child Labour’(June 12, 2020). UP Labour Minister Swami Prasad Maurya was also present during the launch
Aim of the yojana– To educate orphans and worker’s children or child labourers & ensure their healthy life.
Major Highlights of the yojana:
Financial assistance– This scheme provides financial assistance to the selected students of Rs 1000 per month(pm) to boys, Rs 1200 pm to girls & If these children pass 8th, 9th and 10th they will be get Rs 6000 per annum along with a monthly incentive.
Beneficiaries– Child laborers without parents or neither of them or handicapped parents or landless or parents with incurable disease
1st phase of yojana– In the 1st phase of yojana 2000 children have been selected from 57 districts. These children will benefit from all categories of scholarship schemes
Atal residential schools- The beneficiaries & children of registered workers will also get education in 18 Atal residential schools(with free facilities). These schools were announced by UP CM on the lines of Navodaya Vidyalaya.
Identification of children- The identification of working children will be done by the Labor Department among others. The list of Socio Economic Caste Census 2011 will be used for selecting landless families and women headed families.
