Union MoS Pankaj Chaudhary Leads 69th ED Foundation Day Celebrations in New Delhi

Union Minister of State for Finance Shri Pankaj Chaudhary presides over the 69th Foundation Day of Directorate of Enforcement (ED), in New DelhiOn 1 May 2025, Union Minister of State (MoS), Ministry of Finance (MoF), Pankaj Chaudhary led the 69th Foundation Day celebrations of the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) in New Delhi, Delhi, highlighting the agency’s growing efforts in tackling financial crimes.

Key Attendees: The event was attended by senior dignitaries including S.V. Raju, Additional Solicitor General; Rahul Navin, Director, ED; Subhash Aggarwal and Prashant Kumar, Special Directors, ED; and Naval Kishore Ram, Joint Secretary, Department of Revenue(DoR), Ministry of Finance(MoF).

Highlights of 69th Foundation Day of ED:

ED Annual Report for FY25:

The Union MoS Pankaj Chaudhary, also released the Annual Report of the ED for the Financial Year 2024–25 (FY 25). The report highlights a significant increase in action taken by the ED to tackle financial crimes in India.

Key Points:

i.Between 2014 and 2024, the ED initiated 5,113 Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002 investigations, averaging over 500 cases per year.

In 30 cases, Rs 15,261 crore was returned to victims with court approval

ii.In FY25, a total of 775 new cases were launched under the PMLA. The agency issued 461 provisional attachment orders worth Rs 30,036 crore, 44% more in number and 141% higher in value than FY 24, with total attached assets reaching Rs 1.54 lakh crore by March 2025.

iii.The ED filed 333 prosecution complaints in FY25, leading to 34 convictions, with 1,739 cases under trial by 31 March 2025 and only 3 acquittals out of 47 concluded cases, resulting in a 93.6% conviction rate.

At the event, 23 officers and zonal units were honoured for their outstanding service:

i.Abhishek Goyal, former Special Director, ED received the President’s Medal for Meritorious Service.

ii.Officers from across India were awarded for their work in intelligence, investigation, and field operations.

iii.Zonal offices in Jalandhar (Punjab), Hyderabad (Telangana), and Gurugram (Haryana) were specially appreciated for their high performance, including securing convictions, filing cases, and attaching valuable properties.
