On September 23, 2019 The Union Minister for Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and Road Transport & Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari and Shri RK Singh, Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy (IC) and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship jointly inaugurated the 2-day long  National Conclave on Energy Efficiency in MSME sector in New Delhi. The conclave was organised by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). Launch of Knowledge Management Portal “SIDHIEE”:
The ministers launched Knowledge Management Portal “SIDHIEE” under BEE’s MSME Programme along with Energy Conservation Guidelines for MSMEs. The portal contains information for MSMEs inclusive of 50 video tutorials for energy efficient technologies.

MoU signed:
A Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) was signed between Shri Surendra Nath Tripathi, Development Commissioner of MSME and Shri Abhay Bakre, Director General,Bureau of Energy Efficiency on enhancement of energy security in MSMEs.
i. The MoU will enhance cooperation in the field of energy mapping of MSMEs on pan India, development of appropriate schemes etc.

Key points
i. The event saw participation from entrepreneurs, Industry Associations, technology and service providers, sectoral energy experts and senior officials from the Government.
ii. The industrial energy demand in India has doubled in the last 5 years and is further expected to expand by over 3 times between 2012 and 2040.
iii. The upcoming New Tariff Policy proposing DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) method for transfer of power subsidies would incentivize consumers’ energy saving.
iv. The base of Indian MSME is considered one of the largest in the world after China. This MSME sector also holds good strength in manufacturing services with well established value added supply chain.
v. BEE: so far BEE has implemented 50 energy efficient technologies on a pilot project basis and conducted nationwide awareness and capacity building workshops/training programs including support to 40 MSME units as per International Standards Organization(ISO)- 50001 standard.
