Adani Electricity Mumbai recognised as No 1 utility company by Ministry of PowerOn February 20, 2025, the Regional meeting of Power Sector was convened in New Delhi (Delhi) and was chaired by Union Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar, Ministry of Power (MoP), Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) alongside Union Minister of State (MoS) Shripad Yesso Naik, MoP, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

  • During the meeting, the 13th Integrated Ratings, the 4th edition of CSRD report and DUR reports for Financial Year 2023-24 (FY24) were released highlighting top-performing distribution utilities across India.
  • The meeting discussed strategies for a financially viable power sector, including privatization, tariff rationalization, and support for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Pumped Storage Projects (PSP).

Reports and Rankings:

i.Integrated Ratings of Distribution Utilities: The 13th edition of the Integrated Ratings for 63 distribution utilities for the FY 24 was launched.

  • Mumbai (Maharashtra) based Adani Electricity Mumbai Limited (AEML) topped the ratings, by New Delhi (Delhi) based Power Finance Corporation Limited (PFC) for 3rd consecutive year in recognition for operational excellence.
  • It was followed by Surat (Gujarat) based Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Limited (DGVCL), Noida (Uttar Pradesh,UP) based Noida Power Company Limited (NPCL), Vadodara (Gujarat) based Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Limited (MGVCL), and Gandhinagar (Gujarat) based Uttar Gujarat Vij Company Limited (UGVCL).

ii.Consumer Services Rating of DISCOMs (CSRD): The 4th edition of the CSRD report covering the performance of  Distribution Companies (DISCOMs) (CSRD) for FY 2023-24 was released.

  • 6 DISCOMs secured the highest grade “A+”: New Delhi (Delhi) based Bombay Suburban Electric Supply (BSES) Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL), New Delhi (Delhi) based BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL), New Delhi (Delhi) based Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL), AEML, Mumbai (Maharashtra) based Tata Power Company Limited (TPCL) and Noida (UP) based Noida Power Company Limited (NPCL).
  • AEML also earned an A+ rating from the New Delhi (Delhi) based Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) in recognition for exceptional customer service. Fifteen DISCOMs secured the “A” grade.

iii.DUR Report: The first edition of the Distribution Utilities Ranking (DUR) Report for FY 2023-24 was launched.

  • Distribution Utilities category: Panchkula (Haryana) based Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (UHBVNL), Hisar (Haryana) based Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (DHBVNL), and Bhubaneswar (Odisha) based Tata Power Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL) topped the rankings
  • Special Category State Utilities: Dehradun (Uttarakhand) based Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL), Guwahati (Assam) based Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL), and Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh) based AR Power Department were the top performers.
  • Urban DISCOMs category: AEML ranked as the Number 1 followed by TPDDL, and NPCL were recognized as the best-performing DISCOMs.

Note: AEML excelled with a score of 93.5, the highest among urban utilities, achieving near-perfect scores in Performance Excellence (99.8), Consumer Service (90.0), Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) Compliance (100%), Communicable System Metering (100%), and Resource Adequacy Planning (91.7).
