On the Occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi (October 2, 2020), Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Arjun Munda virtually launched ‘Tribes India E-Marketplace’ (market.tribesindia.com), which is India’s largest handicraft and organic products marketplace.
i.It is an initiative of Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED).
ii.Minister of State (MoS) for Tribal Affairs, Renuka Singh Saruta, Minister of Rural Industry, Chhattisgarh, Rudra Kumar, Chairman of TRIFED, Pravir Krishna were present during the launch.
Key Points:
i.The marketplace will accelerate the digitisation of tribal commerce. It aims to include 5 Lakh Tribal Producers for sourcing handicraft, handloom, natural food products across the country into the marketplace.
ii.It will include products from individual tribal artisans, Tribal Self Help Groups (SHGs), Organisations, and Non-Governmental Organisations working with the tribals.
iii.Using the marketplace, Tribal suppliers can sell their goods through their own retailers and distributors.
iv.Tribal suppliers can sell their products through TRIFED’s network of Outlets, E-Commerce partners and also using their own account in the e-Marketplace.
Tribal Entrepreneurship Development Programme:
i.Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Arjun Munda virtually launched Tribal Entrepreneurship Development Programme, it will implement projects related to socio-economic development of Tribals.
ii.It has been developed by Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) under its Centre of Excellence initiative.
iii.Around 4.5 Lakh Small & Medium-sized Enterprises are associated with ASSOCHAM.
iv.ASSOCHAM conducted Webinar titled ‘Khadi: Symbol of independent Atmanirbhar Bharat’ to mark the launch of ‘Launch of Tribal Entrepreneurship Development Programme’.
Tribes India E-Marketplace Business-2-Business (B2B) Trade:
The marketplace will help Business-2-Business Trade (B2B) by connecting tribals dependent on Minor Forest Produces and Medicinal Plants to Large Buyers/Manufacturers.
Pakur Honey:
i.The Minister launched Pakur Honey by TRIFED & Tribes India.
ii.Pakur Honey is a 100 % natural honey which are collected in an eco-friendly manner and sustainable basis by local youths.
iii.These are gathered by Santhal Tribals from Pakur, Jharkhand and the Vulnerable Pahadiya Tribes produce Pakur Honey.
Two Tribes India Outlets:
The Minister inaugurated two Tribes India’s 123rd and 124th outlets in Rishikesh and Kolkata.
Product Ranges from Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh:
Two Tribal Product Ranges from Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh have also been included in Tribes India product line-up.
Amazon Seller Flex Program:
Tribes India has collaborated with Amazon Seller Flex Program to enable sellers and artisan to sell Tribes India products across India and the world.
