Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia Inaugurated VTU-VRIF-TCOE Hub & Spoke CoE in Bengaluru

In July 2025, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Madhavrao (M.) Scindia, Ministry of Communications and Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) inaugurated the ‘VTU-VRIF-TCOE Hub and Spoke Centre of Excellence (CoE)’ at regional office of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

  • This newly inaugurated CoE is set to become a cornerstone in India’s journey toward becoming a global deep-tech leader, reaffirming the Government of India (GoI)’s commitment to enabling innovation, empowering youth, and unlocking the potential of India’s digital economy.

About VTU-VRIF-TCOE Hub and Spoke CoE:

i.This CoE is collaborative initiative between VTU, the Visvesvaraya Research and Innovation Foundation (VRIF), and Telecom Centres of Excellence (TCOE) India.

ii.The strategic partnership aims to establish a state-of-the-art innovation ecosystem with a focus on emerging domains including 5th Generation or 6th Generation (5G/6G) communications, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR), quantum computing , healthcare, among others.

iii.The new CoE is envisioned as a launchpad for deep-tech research and startup incubation, supported by more than 20 startups and 30 academic institutions.

  • It is also supported by leading tech firms like: Keysight Technologies, QpiAI, Televerge, among others.
  • While, Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) is entrusted with the responsibility in guiding the skill development efforts.

Reviewed the Progress of Bharat 6G Alliance:

During the event, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia reviewed the progress of Bharat 6G Alliance (B6GA) along with Dr. Neeraj Mittal, Secretary, Department of Telecommunications (DoT) under the Ministry of Communication.

  • The alliance presented comprehensive updates on India’s progress toward becoming a global leader in 6G by 2030.
  • The event featured comprehensive presentations from working group Chairpersons, outlining actionable strategies and key technological advancements.

Key Points:

i.The presentations highlighted significant progress made in areas like: Indigenous Radio Access Network (RAN) technology, Intelligent and inclusive networks for rural connectivity, cross-sectoral 6G applications in domains like agriculture, healthcare, smart and sustainable deployment.

ii.So far, the alliance has been expanded to a robust network of 80 member organizations, including more than 30 startups.

Note: In March 2023, GoI unveiled the Bharat 6G Vision document, laying the strategic foundation for India’s leadership in 6G of wireless systems. To operationalize this vision, the Bharat 6G Alliance (B6GA) was established as a multi-stakeholder platform, uniting academia, industry, startups, and public institutions.

Addressed Gramin Dak Sevak Sammelan:

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia also addressed a gathering at the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Sammelan in Bengaluru, setting an important roadmap for the future of India Post.

  • He highlighted that there is no other distribution channel in the world as wide and deeply connected as India Post with its 1.64 lakh touchpoints stretching from Kashmir (Jammu & Kashmir, J&K) to Kanyakumari (Tamil Naidu, TN), Bharuch (Gujarat) to Dharmanagar (Tripura).
  • During the event, 15 exemplary Gramin Dak Sevaks from Karnataka were honoured for their outstanding performance.
