Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy Launches Logo, Brochure and Website of ‘Bharat Steel 2026’

On August 13, 2025, Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, Ministry of Steel (MoS), Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), launched the official logo, brochure, and website of “Bharat Steel 2026during a workshop for the secondary steel sector held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, Delhi.

About Bharat Steel 2026:

Event: Bharat Steel 2026, a flagship initiative of the MoS, is an international conference-cum-exhibition dedicated to the steel ecosystem. The event is scheduled for April 16-17, 2026, to be held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

Aim: The initiative is launched with an aim to conduct the largest steel exhibition in India and position India as a global hub for sustainable and technologically advanced steel production.

Participants: The event will bring together stakeholders from the primary and secondary steel sectors, global industry leaders, policymakers, technology innovators, and investors with an aim to exhibit India’s capabilities, promote green and sustainable steel production, and explore opportunities across the domestic and international markets.

Sessions: The event will include thematic sessions, state and country roundtables, conferences of the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs), featuring cutting-edge technologies and advancements, meetings of the buyers and sellers.

  • The sessions will include topics such as Strategic Policy & Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Innovation & Green Technology.

India’s Steel Consumption Reaches 100 kg Per Capita:

Per Capita Consumption: During the event, Sandeep Poundrik,Secretary of MoS, announced that the per capita consumption of Steel in India has crossed 100 Kilogram (Kg) for the first time, a significant milestone in the steel sector.

  • India has recorded over 12% growth in steel production, outstripping the declining trends seen globally.

Policy: Government of India (GoI) aims to increase the per capita consumption of finished steel to approximately 160 Kg, crude steel capacity of 300 Million Tonnes (MT), and production of 255 MT by 2030-31 under the National Steel Policy 2017.

  • The per capita consumption of steel was approximately 60 Kg at the time of the launch of the policy in 2017.

Budget: Under the Union Budget 2025–26, the GoI has allocated Rs.3,362 crore to the MoS.
