Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology, inaugurated the advanced 650 teraflops supercomputing facility at National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI) at Mohali, Punjab. He also stated that the government of India will identify and promote 75 innovative Start-Ups in the 75th year of India’s independence.
- This supercomputing facility will act as a facilitator for the 75 innovative Start-Ups working in areas like Telemedicine, Digital Health, mHealth with BIG Data, AI, BlockChain and other technologies.
Key points:
i.The facility at NABI at Mohali has come up with the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) in collaboration with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing(C-DAC), Pune.
ii.This high-end facility will enable the analysis of BIG DATA accruing from the large-scale genomics, functional genomics, structural genomics and population studies which are carried out at various institutes and universities with national and international reputations.
About the 650 teraflops supercomputing facility:
i.The 650 teraflops supercomputing facility was established with an approximate cost of Rs 20 crores.
ii.This will provide the needs of the interdisciplinary cutting-edge research which are done at the Institute related to Agricultural and Nutritional Biotechnology.
iii.This will also be available for the scientists of NABI and Centre of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing (CIAB).
iv.This will also be open to collaborative work for the scientists/faculties working in the other institutes or universities and for the projects sanctioned under the NSM.
Other launches:
Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh also launched the two digital working platforms NABI-Labify and e-Office at NABI & Center of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing (CIAB) under the ‘Digital India’ Initiative.
- NABI Labify is a unique software that allows life tracking funds, which are sanctioned for the purchase of equipment, consumable, manpower, extramural projects and others.

Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh has also inaugurated i-RISE, Technology Business Incubator (TBI) at Mohali which will provide world-class research facilities for start-ups in India.
About i-RISE:
i-RISE Incubator, supported by the Department of Science and Technology and the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, IISER Mohali will work to transform and build a deep impact across the startup ecosystem of this region.
