On July 3, 2020, “Fit Hai To Hit Hai India” webinar program was launched, under the India’s flagship Fit India campaign, by the Union Minister of Human Resource Development Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ and Minister of State (MoS) for Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs and Ministry of Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju. This webinar marked the launch of ‘#FitIndiaTalks’, which will see a series of talks and interactive sessions being held by leading sports celebrities for students. The first session was held on 3rd July itself with the participation of P.V. (Pusarla Venkata) Sindhu and Sunil Chhetri.
- There will be a total of six sessions under “Fit India Talks” which are being organized by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) till July 14, 2020.
Purpose of Fit India Talks Sessions:
Its purpose is to inspire the school students through the sports celebrities who share their experiences of becoming world-class champions from common school students, childhood stories on how they got inspired, their failures, struggles and their success. Students can also ask queries related to their fitness or and require tips on how to stay fit while being within the safe confines of their homes during COVID-19.
- These webinar will be streamed on Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank’s social media pages, MHRD social media pages, Fit India Facebook & YouTube channel, SAI Facebook Page, MyGov YouTube channel, SportsTak YouTube channel as well as the DD (Doordarshan) Sports Television and YouTube channel.
- Badminton star Ashwini Ponnappa, Indian women’s hockey team skipper Rani Rampal, table tennis player Manika Batra, shooter Apurvi Chandela and Paralympian Deepa Malik will join in at the sessions.
Point to be noted:
-Since April 15, 2020, Fit India has been doing exclusive content sessions for school students with leading fitness experts viz. Fit India Active Day program.
– Sports ministry has set a target that by 2028 India must be in the top 10 countries at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. In this regard, the ministry is going to start a Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) Junior, besides the already existing TOPS senior, for grooming the potential juniors as well for the 10-12 year olds.
