UNICEF-ties-up-with-SAP-India-to-provide-career-counselling-to-young-peopleOn 15th July 2020, World Youth skills Day, The United Nations  Children’s Fund(UNICEF) India announced its partnership with SAP India, a software company to provide career counseling to young people on improving their skills to increase employment opportunities for them.

To benefit the underserved young people of India, UNICEF India collaborates with YuWaah – UNICEF’s Generation Unlimited initiative to provide digital education and skills required for employment.

Need for the Partnership:

i.To support the young people in rural India with career and employment opportunities to participate in the modernizing technology driven economy of India.

ii.The national aggregate on learner-computer ratio is 1:89 in the rural schools which affects the learning levels, retention rates and life skills of the rural students.

Focus of the partnership:

i.The partnership of UNICEF-SAP India and YuWaah aims to empower the youths to develop their creativity, problem solving abilities, leadership quality.

ii.The partnership focuses on 

  • Improving digital and life skills.
  • Providing career options.
  • Reimagine the models in other states with the Government of India.
  • Targeted to impact one million people by 2022.

iii.This partnership of UNICEF with YuWaah focuses on using the power of innovation to support the education, workforce readiness and entrepreneurship of the youths and to solve the social issues.

YuWaah initiative:

i.UNICEF’s Generation Unlimited initiative – YuWaah, is a multistakeholder alliance launched in India by UNICEF on 1st November 2019.

ii.YuWaah with the Government of India provides career guidance, mentorship, internships and apprenticeships to the young people to provide social economic opportunities and to integrate career guidance in school education.
