India Finishes On Top At U23 Asian Wrestling Championship In Jordan (1)The Under-17 (U-17)/ Under -23 (U-23) Asian Wrestling Championships 2024 was held from 22nd to 30th June 2024 in Amman, Jordan.

The Indian Wrestlers secured 22 medals (8 gold, 5 silver, and 9 bronze) in the Under-17 (U-17) Asian Wrestling Championships 2024 and 23 medals (9 Gold, 10 Silver and 4 Bronze) in the Under -23 (U-23) Asian Wrestling Championships 2024 in Amman, Jordan.

  • The championship was organised by the United World Wrestling (UWW), the international governing body for the sport of amateur wrestling, both for Greco-Roman wrestling and freestyle wrestling.

Note:

  • U-17 events were held from 22nd to 24th June 2024 and followed by U-23 events.
  • The championship included Womens’s wrestling, Men’s freestyle, and Men’s Greco Roman.
  • The previous U-17 & U-23 Asian Wrestling Championship was held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan in 2023.

Highlights of U-17 Wrestling Championship

i.India topped the U-17 Women’s Wrestling ranking followed by China and Japan in 2nd and 3rd spot.

ii.In Women’s Wrestling, Indian Women U-17 Wrestlers won 8 Gold medals in their respective weight category: Kasish Gurjar (43 Kg); Dipanshi (46 Kg); Muskan (53 Kg); Neha (57 Kg);  Rajnita (61 Kg); Ashvini Vishnoi (65 Kg); Mansi Lather (69 Kg); and Kajal(73 Kg)

iii.Raja Bala won the silver medal in 40kg women wrestling.

iv.In Men’s freestyle event, Indian wrestlers won a total of 3 Silver and 4 Bronze.

  • Vishal Harishchandra Shilimkar (48 Kg); Omkar Babasaheb Katkar (65 Kg); And Nishant Ruhil Won Silver (71 Kg) won the silver medal in their respective weight category.

v.In Greco Roman category, India won 1 silver and 5 bronze: Samarth Gajanan Mhakave won the Silver in 55kg weight category.

Highlights of U-23 Wrestling Championship

i.India has also topped the U-23 Men’s freestyle and Women’s wrestling ranking.

  • Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan were ranked 2nd and 3rd in both Men’s freestyle and Women’s Wrestling.

ii.India was ranked 3rd in the Men’s Greco-Roman ranking. Kazakhstan topped the list followed by Kyrgyzstan.

Points to note:

i.In Women’s wrestling, India’s U-23 Women wrestlers won a total of 6 Gold Medals and 4 Silver medals. Gold Medal winners includes: Meenakshi (50 Kg); Reena (57 Kg); Pushpa Yadav (59 Kg) ; Nitika (62 Kg); Antim (65 Kg); And Priya (76 Kg).

ii.In Greco Roman category, Indian wrestlers won 6 medals (four silver and 2 bronze).

iii.In Men’s freestyle, Indian Wrestlers won a total of 8 medals (four gold, two silver and two bronze medals).

  • Abhimanyou (70kg), Jointy Kumar (92 kg), Sahil Jaglan (97 kg) and Anirudh Kumar (125 kg) bagged the gold medals in their respective weight categories.
  • Rohit (65 kg) and Jaideep (74 Kg) bagged two silver medals, while bronze medals were secured by Shubham (57 kg) and Amit (79 kg).
