Titagarh Rail Systems-BHEL consortium bags contract to manufacture 80 Vande Bharat trainsA consortium of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) and Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL), formerly known as Titagarh Wagons Limited (TWL), bagged a contract worth Rs 24,000 crore with the Indian Railways to manufacture 80 fully assembled Vande Bharat Sleeper Train by 2029 and their maintenance for 35 years.

  • The first prototype will be delivered within 2 years.

About the Contract:

i.BHEL will cover supply of propulsion systems such as Insulated-Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT)-based traction converter-inverter, auxiliary converter, train control management system, motors, transformers, and mechanical bogies. TRSL will be responsible for the mechanical coach building.

ii.The final integration, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of the trains shall be jointly done by BHEL and TRSL at their facilities and Indian Railways’s Integral Coach Factory at Chennai.

Features of the New Trains:

These trains will be designed at an operating semi-high speed of 176/160 kilometer per Hour. Each train will accommodate 887 passengers in its 16 coaches.

Note:

It is part of the tender floated by the Ministry of Railways in February 2023, for 200 Vande Bharat Trains.

MSL signed Rs 100 Cr contract with Indian Railways to install essential components in Vande Bharat Express

Mobility Solutions Ltd (MSL) bagged a contract worth Rs 100 crore from Indian Railways for delivering and installing several essential components for India’s first indigenous semi-high speed Vande Bharat Express.

i.As part of the contract, MSL will supply

  • Front mask or nose cone (eight pieces worth around Rs 2.4 crores)
  • 16 rakes of interior panelling with toilets (worth around Rs 76.58 crores)
  • 16 coaches per rake

ii.The scope of work includes the development, supply, and installation of FRP interior panels for the roof, side, walls, and partitions, toilet with doors, accessories, roller blinds, and other critical equipment.
