Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) in South Africa, a part of Transnet SOC Ltd, a state owned freight transport and handling company, partners with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to develop an integrated online logistics marketplace platform “Cargo Connect”. This first of its kind portal in Africa will bring together all the cargo owners, shipping lines, clearing and forwarding agents and road or rail haulers.
Cargo Connect:
i.This will simplify the south African logistics market with the connected portal which will provide a comprehensive logistics information to cargo owners and logistics players.
ii.The request and bid selection process will become completely transparent and deliver greater value to the customers of TPT.
Note:
The platform is expected to be ready in 12 months.
Features:
i.Cargo Connect will function as an online logistic market place where the customers can submit the logistics related requests and all the service providers to bid online.
ii.The customer can select the preferred proposals and the cargo contract can be awarded to the bidder.
iii.This platform will enable the customers to track the cargo at every point of its journey and if a cargo event occurs the platform will provide automated alerts with critical information.
Note:
The logistic marketplace feature of this solution will have functions similar to the existing market platforms in the transportation and hospitality industry.
