The 135th edition of the oldest Tennis Grand Slam event “The Wimbledon Championships (Wimbledon) 2022” began on June 27 and ended on July 10, 2022 in London, United Kingdom (UK). Novak Djokovic (Serbia) won 2022 Gentlemen’s Singles Title against Nick Kyrgios (Australia) which took place in Centre court.This was Novak Djokovic’s 7th Wimbledon title and his 4th straight Wimbledon men’s singles title.
- Wimbledon usually takes place in Grass Outdoor Courts and every player must follow the dress-code of Whites.
- Wimbledon was established in 1877.
- The 2022 Wimbledon celebrated 100 years of Center court in which many Legendary Champions were participated.
Ladies Singles:-
- Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) won 2022 women’s singles Wimbledon title ,claiming her first grand slam title and the first for Kazakhstan. She defeated Ons Jabeur (Tunisia).
Prize Money of Wimbledon 2022:
In the 2022 edition, there were no ranking points awarded as Wimbledon stripped of points after it banned Russia and Belarusian players from taking part in the event.
i.But it had a record prize pool of £ (Pounds) 40,350,000. Singles champions Novak Djokovic and Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) both earned £2 million each. Nick Kyrgios and Ons Jabeur (Tunisia) earned £1,050,000 each.
- The semifinalists, namely Rafael Nadal (Spain), Simona Halep (Romania), Cameron Norrie (UK) and Tatjana Maria (Germany), received the prize money of £535,000.

Ladies’ Doubles:
The Czech duo of Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova crowned Wimbledon women’s doubles champion for the second time after beating Elise Mertens and Zhang Shuai. The Czech pair beat No.1 seeds Mertens and Zhang for a fifth Grand Slam doubles championship.
- Earlier this year the duo clinched their Fourth Grand Slam in Australian Open.
- The pair also won the Wimbledon title back in 2018.
Gentlemen’s Doubles
Ebden and Purcell became the first all-Australian team in 22 years to win the men’s doubles at the All England Club since the famous Woodies.
- Australia’s Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell prevented the Croatian duo of Mate Pavic and Nikola Mektic from winning back-to-back men’s doubles titles at Wimbledon.
- The final marked the first time in Wimbledon doubles history that the match, and the championship, was decided by a 10-point tiebreak.
- This is also their 1st Grand Slam title.
Mixed Doubles
Desirae Krawczyk and Neal Skupski clinched their second straight Wimbledon mixed doubles title after defeating Australia’s Matthew Ebden and Sam Stosur on Centre Court.
- Krawczyk and Skupski became the first pair to successfully defend the mixed doubles title at the All England Club since Czech brother-sister duo Cyril Suk and Helena Sukova in 1997.

Novak Djokovic
3- time Defending Champion Novak Djokovic became the first player in history to win 80 matches in all four Grand Slams when he defeated Kwon Soon-woo on Centre Court and registered his 80th win.
- By winning 2022 Wimbledon, Djokovic has now equaled Pete Sampras’ seven triumphs at the All England Club (Wimbledon). Roger Federer (Switzerland) is the only person who holds the record with eight titles.
- Djokovic becomes the second player after Nadal to win 21 Grand slam Titles and stands 2nd in the Grand slam title race.
- Nadal stands 1st with 22 Grand Slams, Djokovic Stands 2nd with 21 Grand Slams and Roger Federer stands 3rd with 20 Grand Slams.
Elena Rybakina
Elena Rybakina wins her 1st Grand Slam title at Wimbledon 2022.
- Elena Rybakina became the youngest women’s singles Wimbledon champion since 21-year-old Petra Kvitova lifted the trophy in quite a similar fashion back in 2011.
- Rybakina (Rank 23) is the lowest-ranked woman to win Wimbledon since Venus Williams in 2007.
Ons Jabeur
Ons Jabeur defeated Tatjana Maria in the Wimbledon Ladies’ singles semifinals to become the first Arab woman to reach the final of a Grand Slam. Later she was defeated in the finals by Elena Rybakina.
She is also the first African Women to achieve this feat.
Iga Swiatek
Iga Swiatek, the Women’s Singles World no.1 extended her winning streak to 37 matches, the later failed at the 3rd round of 2022 Wimbledon against Alizé Cornet of France, who put an end to her winning streak.
- Swiatek recently won her French Open Women’s singles title.
2022 Wimbledon – Cheerless Moments:
i.Serena Williams (US), Despite of everyone’s hope on Serena, she failed to qualify on the 1st round of Wimbledon 2022 against Harmony Tan of France.
- Serena Williams is the one and only Woman to win 23 Grand Slam titles compared with male and female.
ii.Sania Mirza of India participated in 2022 Wimbledon under Mixed Doubles category with Mate Pavic (Croatia), the duo failed to win Semi-final of Wimbledon.
- With this loss, Sania Mirza gave her official retirement from Wimbledon season.
- She also has 6 doubles Grand Slam titles to her name, and plays her last season of her tennis career.
iii.Rafael Nadal the winner of Men’s singles in French Open 2022, withdraws from Wimbledon 2022 ahead of Semi-final against Nick Kyrgios due to injury (abdominal tear).
