The Telangana Information technology (IT) Minister Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao (KTR) announced the initiation of a drone-based afforestation project, named ‘Hara Bhara’ during a the launch of ‘AgHub’, or Agri Innovation Hub, at the Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agriculture University (PJTSAU) in Hyderabad, Telangana.
- In this regard, Telangana’s Information technology & communication (IT&C) and forest departments have partnered with Marut Drones, a Hyderabad-based startup.
- Under this project, 5 million (50 Lakh) trees will be planted in 12,000 hectares across all 33 districts of the state. It is India’s first such project.
Key Points:
i.During the launch event, a Seedcopter drone by Marut Drones was unveiled along with the poster launch of the ‘Hara Bhara’ campaign.
- Seedcopter is an aerial seeding solution for rapid and scalable reforestation.
ii.This campaign will accelerate the mission of a ‘green Telangana’ which was initiated under the state’s ‘Telangana ku Haritha Haram’ programme.
How will drones help in this project?
Drones will disperse seed balls over thin, barren and empty forest lands to turn them into cluster of trees.

It has been set up by PJTSAU with an outlay of Rs 9 crore for 5 years by the National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development (NABARD) as a special purpose vehicle to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in agriculture and to support agritech startups.
