In June 2025, Teghbir Singh, at the age of 6 years and 9 months, has become the youngest ever in the world to climb the Mount (Mt) Elbrus, highest peak of European Continent, located in Russia at a height of more than 18, 510 feet (ft) (5,642 metres, m).
- He received the Mountain Climbing Certificate issued by the Mountaineering, Rock Climbing and Sports Tourism Federation of Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (Russia).
Key Points:
i.It is a low-Oxygen trek, and the trekker needs preparation to tackle problems associated with Altitude Sickness.
ii.Teghbir Singh started the trek to the Mt.Elbrus on June 20, 2025, and walked all along to reach the Elbrus peak, the highest point of the mountain, where normal temperature is -10 degree (°) Celsius on June 28, 2025.
iii.He set a new world record by surpassing the previous mark held by Wagah Kushagra from Maharashtra, who achieved it in 2024 at the age of 7 years and 3 months.

i.Teghbir Singh, from Punjab,became the youngest Sikh to reach Mt Everest Base camp, in Nepal, at 5,364 metre (m) in April 2024.
ii.In August 2024, he became the youngest Asian to scale Mt Kilimanjaro, the highest peak of the African continent, and his name features in the Asia Book of Records and the India Book of Records.
Mount Elbrus:
i.Mount Elbrus, highest peak of the Caucasus mountains, located in Southwestern Russia. It is the highest point in Russia as well as in all of Europe.
- Elbrus is one of the Seven Summits of the world, which are the tallest mountains on each of the seven continents.
ii.It is an extinct volcano with twin cones reaching 18,510 ft (5,642 m) and 18, 356 ft (5,595 m). The two peaks are volcanic domes, about 1.5 kilometer (km) apart.
- A total area of 53 square miles (138 square km) of Elbrus is covered by 22 glaciers, feeding rivers like Baksan, Malka, and Kuban.
iii.The east summit of the mountain was first reached by the Russian Army on a scientific expedition in 1829. In 1874, climbers reached the west summit, the highest point of the mountain.
